I dont have and I dont want a smartphone with a dataplan. Not because I dont want a smartphone but because I dont want the dataplan and its walled garden. All of the subscription services are pretty much a con to make you pay for something you dont need that could be purchased on a pay as you go basis. I enjoy the free stuff but accept that it has to be payed for somehow. I'm not prepared to pay overinflated subscription fees for a walled garden though. When I read in forums about people paying $500 a month for a family plan with half a dozen iPhones I am deeply surprised that people could pay as much for running them as they probably spend on food. It has to be a vanity thing and a fashion statement. It will come to an end and something else will take over - like personal presence everywhere for example, where every phone or PC reconfigured itself to be your machine in your presence - and not straight jacketed into Apples revenue gathering funnel either. So they can fool all of the people some of the time or move on to fool some of the people all the time but the days of universal rip off subscriptions and walled gardens mediated by the smartphone are strictly limited. I might get one when they are finished.
Are you telling me that all research in the US is approved by the government of the day? I thought that the US was a free country, or am I mistaken, perhaps its just like North Korea. In fact maybe North Korea is more reliable as a source of truth, at least they don't pretend that their science and politics is free.
I think you are taking complete merde. Society would be much better off if you were living in North Korea, I think they could make good use of your skills there denouncing people.
Dont worry, if you are in the UK then this counts as a hate crime punishable by Jail, although it is clearly a Rant or a Troll and not meant to be put into practice. I have no doubt that the RIAA are working on getting thought crimes like this criminalized in the UK as we speak.
The only thing I find tweets useful for is status of projects or events the rest of it is Usenet spam. Heck, Usenet has been full of excrement for decades, Twitter is just the same, you need to filter it. Though it has to be said that the mejia loves the concept and therfore it gets far too much attention. yawn.
Agreed, $45 Billion is absurd and should be resoundingly mocked as the ignorant lie that it is. Sadly it appears that politicians worldwide are being duped by similar lies into absurd content protection legislation to the benefit of no one, least of all the content providers. Sometimes I think that all politicians should be made to take tests in statistics and critical thinking before we allow them anywhere near the legislature.
Absolutely, The edict against eating pork was perfectly sensible when the rules were written two thousand years ago, good job, sadly like most of the rest of our religious cannons it is now perfectly barking mad advice since the advent of scientific understanding which explains what the risks are of consuming different foods. Either the religious cannon gets updated or religion becomes the enemy of humankind. (Catholicism currently would rather we died in our own shit rather than limiting population growth for example, never mind the outdated politics that says child abuse should be brushed under the carpet because it might detract from church authority). Currently we are watching legacy organised religion become the enemy of humankind. Its up to the bosses of the religions to sort themselves out or the rest of humanity will eliminate them - permanently. Reality ended Soviet communism and Mao's China quickly updated themselves once he was dead but current Christianity and Islam for example have less than half a century before the rest of us get fed up with them and kill the lot of them. I wont live that long but you will see this war fought out during your lives. I have no objection to religion but it has to adapt to circumstances or it will die, this is just a scientific fact, like gravity. Excuse me I have to make myself a BLT before I get really angry....
If I wanted my screen filled with ribbon bars I wouldn't be using a wide screen monitor. Either Microsoft starts selling monitors with acres of space to put their cromulent ribbons in, or this is just another bit of marketing feature creep that they think will differentiate them in the market place. Lets face it the ribbon is irritating excrement and the other 50,000 high tech workers in my company agree that they are quite happy with their Office 2003 interface. Let me explain, icon driven interfaces are great for the half dozen frequently used tasks but to restrict everything to icons is just plain wrong. Only morons, young people or marketeers could think otherwise.
I am a strong supporter of adblocking software on Firefox or anything else. I do not consent to the level of advertising that seems to be acceptable to most people. I believe that spending 10% of your life being assaulted by advertising is not a good way to live. Further I believe that some advertising is directly causing harm to people by constantly playing on their fears and promoting irrational greed. The balance is wrong and we should have the means to tip it back to a sane level.
I think that the question is more about advertising and the nature of acceptable content in it than the limitations on the freedom of individuals to do what they want. If "sexting" was portrayed in a video labelled as art by society then I think you might have a point. Children are not adults and quite reasonably society implements rules about what advertising aimed, even if indirectly at children can contain. Suing children for taking nude photographs of themselves is a different thing altogether and reflects a broken legal system which has been hijacked by "the puritans".
Yes, tedious to discover the truism that power corrupts and that absolute power corrupts absolutely - whether you are "the governmint" or a monopoly technology brand. Got to keep those disturbing individuals away from the control panel. Look, I have no objections to walled gardens for profit but we have a far more pressing concern of the system of pipes being denied us in the net neutrality debate or the great firewall of Australia. Who cares if the great unwashed pay though the nose for approved iPhone cardboard porn so long as the channels are left open for Iranian revolutionary tweets, wikileaks and the free exchange of information. The heroin of the people should be safe and bland otherwise the underground wouldn't make any sense.
All that we can be sure of is that several million dollars of Microsoft money will be going to a few private individuals for the fantastic work they have done in destroying the reputation of the open source concept.Ask any drone in a large company, Open Source is bad news because there are law suits against it. I expect that they can get pretty well paid jobs with Scientology next.
Look I like the fact that you got up and posted something in this discussion but for goodness sake sober up long enough to back up your vague assertion. The Woz said http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/04/steve-wozniaks-prius-prob_n_448778.html that he was pissed that he couldn't get a sensible answer from Toyota about his knowledge about accelerator problems. I didn't look for a video but thats the first google item for "Steve Wozniak prius". Shape up dude, people all over the planet are reading your post and you can influence what they think with just a bit more effort.
I am sure that they are attracting the best graduates of your education system. If NASA cant hire self motivated accomplished scientists then I suggest you hire Chinese Indian or Brazilian scientists, because they want to win unlike you pathetic media celebrity motivated beer, copulating, burger and sport obsessed wimps. Come on, if NASA is crap then your whole country is crap, do you really believe that?
So your bitterness suggest that we do what? ignore the data and find someone to blame and destroy them, or do a careful study to find the root cause and fix it so that no one else dies. NASA have killed their own quotient of people through complacency and I think they are the ideal investigative organisation to discover the problem. Are you suggesting that we should rely on Witch finders in the press to do the job? Do you know the difference between the scientific method and the Catholic church who wholly approve of buggering children so long as it can be covered up in the interests of a political ideal to destroy all other religions? Make your mind up, either go for your political ideal and bugger the children or use the data to make your decisions with.
That is the real question, is any auto business finding the unknown unknown bug that is affecting Toyot?a. This isnt a politics question its a science question.
Hey Joe, if we want to research genes that make people sick then we have a perfect investment vehicle for it and its called the State. State funded research doesn't have to make a return for grasping parasites like you and can be done for purely aesthetic reasons or for the greater good of humanity. The patent system has largely become a way for large corporations to keep competitors out of the market and to destroy all third world businesses. Patenting genes is a prime example of this.
Sack the parasites. I would do it for $50K and I bet you $50Kthat | could learn enough to do a better job than these vermin. I have worked on a JD Edwards One World ERP set-up and I can tell you for nothing that its nothing special. These people are just in the special position of being able to blackmail you puny mortals because you are afraid of being sued. Come to think of it, you deserve to pay over the odds because politicians are ignorant wimps and the public should pay higher taxes for voting in useless ignorant people who can walk, talk, chew gum, screw the tax payer, and know nothing about how the world works. On second thoughts I'm rather glad that these people who know something have screwed the maximum penalty out of our Disneyland elected representatives. Who said democracy was a good thing anyway. Enjoy your Fox news morons.
Moron, thats exactly what it is going to do. You didn't seriously think that this Agency will spend any money on Space activities? Fool, thats not how we do things in the UK these days.
What we do is create a load of bureaucrats with the power to fine you if you arn't doing Space right - and the fines pay for the bureaucrats to sit on their arses and dream up new ways of fining people. Trust me they will just leach off of any money streams being spent by commercial enterprises trying to buy ESA services.
God, you people out there are so thick with your aspirational belief in doing things.
Thats my interpretation of it. This will presumably mean that any university research project that wants to fly an instrument in some other nations spacecraft will now have to go through an endless round of paperwork with the "Strategic Space Agency" who will check that it fits with their political mandate to fly a second rate television celebrity into space in order to promote the socialist ideals of our barking mad government.
In other words the UK is going in the diametric opposite direction to the USA who have decided to take away NASA's monopoly and get a bit of commercial competition going in the civilian space arena.
Its not surprising that there is a sizable number of the British population who dream of the Army taking over, taking the Labour government to court for treason and lining them up and shooting them as they are convicted.
Of course with any luck we will have a change of government in the next couple of months and we can look forward to the long slow dismantlement of the factory floor sweeping Soviet economy that are the legacy of over a decade of the Labour parties ideological bankruptcy. Did I say I wasn't keen on the Labour party? Oh I see I did...
Loonies or not the Pirate Party of Sweden is the third largest elected party there. The similarly named and causally similar Pirate parties of twenty other countries have not yet achieved such success but are obviously going to try as you would find out if you happened to check Wikipedia before dismissing them.
Everything on BBC television is informed by the need to be entertainment, if you expect to be informed by their output you are delusional. The BBC is just a branch of the Labour party anyway judging by their recent shutdown of the Have your Say website because they didn't like the overwhelming anti Labour viewpoint of the visitors coming up to the election. If you look back at the history of legislation you will find that the Labour party always pass deeply unpopular and badly written bills just before elections. They don't like doing it when people might notice their truly evil bills.
The IPCC did not fiddle anything, they made a bad mistake in a single paragraph in a 3000 page report and have set up an oversight body to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
In Europe Ford make just such a machine, admittedly with a Pegeot/Citroen diesel engine but it does 60 MPG at 60 MPH, a slightly less brilliant 45 MPG at 80 MPH and develops a sensible 136 BHP. I have no idea what the top speed is, I chickened out at 120 MPH. It has a radio and CD player seats 5, was dirt cheap to buy and has more trunk space than a Volvo. I cant understand why you Americans have to drive such bad cars.
Its becoming clear that a small core of wealthy individuals who benefit from laissez faire have hijacked the mind-share of you drones by their propaganda. Anthropogenic Global Warming is real according to the science and the reason we might get less optimal legislation is because of your drone like repetition of the views of the American Al Quaida - the Neocons or whatever they call themselves these days.
Let me put this bluntly, the biggest enemy of humanity is not global warming or terrorists, its you. The mindless drones of an insane political ideology that covets wealth for the few at the expense of the many. This is the war between the common people and the super rich, probably just the American super rich, though that is not yet clear. Do you think they care about the millions who will die as a result of global warming through wars over mass migration etc. They do not care because the rich are always able to look after themselves.
Take a good long hard look at the source of the propaganda you so enthusiastically spout and tell me with a straight face that the originators actually give a toss about your personal continued existence. They don't and you are a slave to people who would as soon kill you as speak to you. This AGW debate is not about the science, it hasn't been since before George Bush senior recognised it in public. Its about the subjugation of the American people by an ideology that despises the common man. Am I surprised that Al Gore is being used in a publicity stunt by the enemy of humanity, not at all.
The pure market may be capable of forcing business to take health and safety precautions like guards and interlocks on machine tools as a result of the dead suing them but in the mean time we use government to speed these free market changes up through regulation. The science says we are about to drown in our own excrement, so some kind of regulation is necessary to express the cost of these externalities in the market. Nothing new, nothing to see, move along now. Your outrage on behalf of the super rich is incomprehensible.
