Just because you won't play it doesn't mean other people won't play it either so it does have value to some (probably most). Worst case scenario is you end up selling the game, I bet you could get at least $20 for it. Wii Golf actually looks pretty fun from I have seen so I will like "getting a game for free" instead of having to pay another $50.

Either way the Wii is still significantly cheaper than the XBox core and anyone who cannot afford an XBox Premium anyway and is deciding between the Wii and XBox core will probably go with the Wii since it is cheaper and a better deal (retro games with virtual console, includes wireless Wii remote and also the nun chuck, wireless internet compared just an ethernet port, has 512MB internal memory instead of none, etc). The XBox core sucks compared to the Wii.

Did you RTFA? The Core 360 doesn't include a game like this Wii will, so add $50-60 to buy a game with the 360 Core and it's closest competitor is ~$100 more. Also, I wouldn't be suprised if they release a Wii "Core" with no game for ~$200, so again it would be ~$100 less than its nearest competitor.

I agree completely. Why the hell do people get pissed off when MS includes basic, handy tools such as the windows firewall? For the average user that is just fine for them. For other people who want more custimization and features there is ZoneAlarm, Kerio Personal Firewall, etc. I think it would be great to have more basic tools included with the OS so I can get simple tasks done but if those simple tools eventually just aren't enough I can still go buy a better featured product from another company. That is how it should be.

  8. Re:You don't see the problem. on EU And Microsoft Clash Over Vista Security · · Score: 1, Interesting

Besides security non IE browsers and non outlook email clients are almost indistinguishable to the average user. THAT is the reason for that problem. If I show my dad a webpage in Opera he most likely will not notice any difference from IE other than buttons are in different places. The same goes for outlook. Both of those are simple tools that perform simple tasks and do everything most users need.

Look at other areas where MS has a similar product included with the OS such as firewall, MS paint, windows media player, etc and you will see that products that perform better and are noticeably better to not just the power user but also the average user get LOTS of business such as ZoneAlarm firewall, Adobe photoshop, Cyberlink Power DVD player and Nullsoft WinAmp.

Bringing up how IE shows a reason that MS shouldn't bundle software is pretty much pointless because back in the day when IE and Netscape Navigator were the two main browsers Navigator ended up losing because IE was just as usable and at times even performed better (well speedier which equals better to the average user). IE is still the majority because it does everything the average user needs which is displaying webpages, woo big job to do there.

FireFox/Opera/etc are becoming more popular now both for security reasons that users are finally beginning to understand as well as they provide more functionality than just being a tool to display webpages and people are starting to see both benefits.

I say let MS bundle all the software they want, it usually is just software that provides BASIC functionality and anyone who wants better WILL go elsewhere keeping software companies in business. If you work for a company who makes software similar to what MS might be bundling with Vista instead of hoping the EU helps "protect" you why don't you just make your application so kickass and full of features that people will not want anything else?

They can ask for an employee to help them, I highly doubt a store would turn them down that help. They could also ask a friend/family member to come along to help. Disabled people got along just fine for hundreds of years before you could shop on the internet, there are other ways.

Accessible websites and home delivery are a boon to disabled people (as well as non-disabled people). With an accessible website, a blind person can do their regular shop without needing to inconvenience other people - its a means of self-sufficiency. What was once an arduous task is now something that can be completed successfully from their own homes - providing Target had done two really simple things.

I agree that accessible websites and home delivery are great for disabled people, but I don't think businesses should be forced to provide that service. If they don't provide that service then they lose out on the business. Like I said before, as long as the stores physical location is accessible then they should not be able to be sued over their web interface. In my eyes that would be like suing a business because every door coming into their business is not wheelchair accessible, as long as there is at least one way (physical or virtual) to get inside that should be enough and no suing should be going on forcing any businesses to change their website.

I know competition is good, I pointed that out myself. What I was tryig to show is that even though MS bundles some software (such as IE, paint, windows firewall, media player) it does not automatically kill of the competition like a lot of people say.

What it does is gives more functionality right out of the box to some users who just have basic needs, gives more competition to companies that have competing software which forces them to innovate, and then the users who need something better than MS's basic version end up getting a better product when they purchase the competitions version.

As an example I will use my computer that has quite a bit of software I purchased/freely downloaded even though something similar came with XP:

    1) Adobe Photoshop instead of MS Paint.
    2) Kerio Personal Firewall instead of the built in firewall.
    3) WinAmp instead of using Windows Media Player.
    4) CyberLink Power DVD player instead of Windows Media Player.
    5) Opera instead of IE.
    6) UltraEdit instead of notepad/wordpad.
    7) WinRar, WinZIP, PKZip instead of the built in compression application.
    8) AIM instead of using MSN.
    9) AdAware/Spybot instead of Windows Defender (ok not bundled with XP but its available and will be included in Vista).
    10) Partition magic instead of the built in disk tools.
    11) Various types of CD/DVD burning software instead of the built in burning module (most of what I burn is just backups of files so MS's module theoretically could do most of what I needed done).
    12) MyUninstall instead of the built in software uninstaller.
    13) UltraVNC instead of the remote desktop.

I could probably find more but I don't feel like it. Anyway, it is pretty obvious that by MS including basic, extra tools in addition to their OS no major harm is done to competitors. Usually MS's version is a cheap POS that may be able to get simple tasks done but if more functionality is needed/wanted then you must look elsewhere.
