  1. Re:It's the neo-cons stupid. on Globalization Decimating US I.T. Jobs · · Score: 1

While I don't agree with many large business's attitudes towards employee's (such as having no loyalty to the employee but expecting the employee's to have full loyalty to them) I also don't like people who whine about the offshoring of jobs. If someone over the ocean can do the same job as me (software developer) for much cheaper then so be it. This does not worry me that much though because I have heard from many sources how horrible most outsourcing experiences are. If outsourcing does not start to become easier to do and have better results then businesses will realize that the "cost savings" is not worth the other problems and sometimes it actually ends up costing more in the long run.

The key is to keep your skills sharp and make yourself be in demand. I recently put my resume out on monster and some other job boards and was overwelmed with the responses I got so much that I ended up taking it off because my inbox was full and my phone was ringing off the hook (and no, not just from head hunters who I ignored completely). These were great, decently high paying jobs too 75k-100k+ at places like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc (experience required ranged from 2-5 years and I have 2). From what I observed a lot of the easily outsourced, lower skilled software jobs may have gone overseas but the higher skilled positions are still plentiful and definitely not scarce.

The jobs were tempting but right now I am happy at the small forensic software shop I currently am at and I really like the challenges I receive everyday, the knowledge that the software I create is helping to catch "bad guys", and the freedom I have since I am not overwelmed with company policies, red tape, etc. I also like the added fact that my current job will NEVER get outsourced, it just would not make sense to do so since we are such a small company not to mention the security issues that would come up.

Basically there is not much to worry about unless you let your skills stagnate and/or you don't adjust to changes in the market.

I never said it wasn't a waste of time and personally I think it was blown out of proportion but that still does not make it a sex scandal. From dictionary.com scandal is defined as:

    1. a disgraceful or discreditable action, circumstance, etc.
    2. an offense caused by a fault or misdeed.
    3. damage to reputation; public disgrace.
    4. defamatory talk; malicious gossip.
    5. a person whose conduct brings disgrace or offense.

So yes, it was a sex scandal.

The President is supposed to be a person who everyone in the country can look up to (including children) and Clinton's actions definitely should never have occurred. What is a bigger sex scandal that has occurred recently (such at the last 25 years which is how old I am) and involved the President?

No matter how idiotic it is to give out your banking information to some website it is still your banks responsibility to make sure all transactions are authorized by YOU and YOU ALONE (at least that is how I understand the current laws in the US).

A lot of damage can be done just by getting a persons bank account number and bank routing number. What if a person were to write a check at the local grocery store and the clerk ended up writing down the information on the check and then used that information to purchase goods online or in some other fashion. While this is not the same as handing your information over at some website it is similar and both situations should be the banks responsibility to verify the account holder authorizes the transactions.

Do you remember when you asked "Have you played the Wii? Why does the XBox360 Core suck compared to it? Please fill me in."? You asked me to fill you in and I trounced you. I meant the 360 core has nowhere to store game data (since like you said it doesnt have the HD) compared to the Wii shipping with 512MB of memory that the user can use to store game information. Some is always better than none no matter what you may say.

The nunchuck is neat, but what if I don't like it?

Then don't use it, at least it is included in a system that is inexpensive to begin with.

    $50 is not significantly cheaper...

It is significant when you take a second to realize that is adding 20% more money on top of the price of the Wii PLUS the biggest kicker is you would have to pay even more to get the same features. Lets just see how much more by checking prices at bestbuy.com:

    1) 64MB Memory unit (since you said you would prefer those over the HD) $40
    2) Wireless controller $50
    3) Component Cable $40
    4) Wireless Network Adapter $80
    5) Cheap game $20

Hmm, looks like that initial $50 difference would be closer to $280 to get close to but still not equal functionality (only 64MB memory compared to 512MB). Now are you going to say paying over double the price of the Wii is not significantly cheaper?
