Could have been weapons-grade plutonium or that critter from 8mm.....
I'll tell you why I don't hire them

This is a fluff piece from Slate. I work at major biotechnology company in California. I have hired over 30 people in the last 6 years. I have found that most of the people from these schools are extremely arrogant and difficult to manage. Most believe they should be running our company and if they aren't running within a year of coming on-board they are clearly shocked that we don't realize their brilliance. They then do their best to make everyone on the team miserable like them. The real problem is that most universities don't really prepare people for the real world. In fact, I would argue that US universities are probably some of the most "unreal" places around now. Nevertheless shocking how arrogant some of the graduates from these schools are.
Again Timmy shows why he is one of the most worthless of the slashdot inner circle. Who cares what an ethicist thinks about whether a robot poops or not? Any robot that moves will require an energy source and therefore will produce waste.
No, you are not missing anything. This one isn't even close to qualifying as a top-level story. This is a classic example of how clueless most of the folks who control Slashdot are.
Ask the "co-authors" on the recently retracted papers from Bell Labs. Many co-authors are simply added on as a payback for a favor or because they are supervisors.
There are scientist who bounce lasers off mirrors left on the moon to measure the distance from the earth to the moon. How does the lunatic fringe explain the existence of mirrors on the moon.
Although I agree with the thesis, there are examples to the contrary. The most notable is the invention of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) by Kary Mullis for amplification of nucleic acids circa 1987. This was a one-man deal and became a major invention in spite of the corporation Kary Mullis was working for. BTW he won the Nobel Prize for it.
You are the one who is part of the problem. Scientific American has a history of running crap. Take at look at their late 70's article that claimed that cocaine is not addicting.
The response in SA was not very strong on statistics or facts. What is clearly staring us straight in the face is that the enviromentalist are liars and not particularly prone to getting their facts straight.
Relax. It has been known for a while that you can take virtually any cell in the body and start a whole organism from it. Thus, any cell in theory can give rise to any tissue. This paper is just another one of the many examples of hype that is now common place in the biotech world.
Oops-I meant Super 8. Mixing up formats again...

Obviously you have never lived in Phoenix. This newspaper is just another pawn in the large Gannett propaganda machine.

Trust me, this research is not about cave exploration.

Someone finally had the guts to call "Bull shit"
Yes, I use Zone Alarm for this and it works great!
Just don't name any of children "Del".
