    I like the RF detector part. Have it trigger a ear-piercing fire-alarm type device that would make it impossible to carry on a conversation. The other inmates will start beating the shit out of the guy with the phone for setting off "that damn alarm" again. No legal phone outside the prison gets jammed. Phones inside the prison are useless. And anyone trying to use one will be easily identified by the bloody clothes.

    Shows the lack of imagination in most politicians, doesn't it? Campaign on reducing crime and lowering spending by tying the prison payouts recividism rates. Get the Tea Party and Conservative vote in one swing.

    And it is somehow wrong to encourage the idea of peace?

    No. But peace doesn't come about because of flowery speeches. It requires understanding, intuition and skill to bridge the worldview of warring factions. It requires sacrifice and a willingness to endure oppression to expose corrupt governments.

    Obama did nothing that would qualify. He continues to do nothing, and in fact has arguably been one of the most divisive Presidents this country has ever know.

    I don't know the details, but the police acted stupidly.
    Elections have consequences.
    Republicans can't drive. They have to ride in the back.

    As President, sometimes your first job is to shut the hell up. Seldom has this man availed himself of that opportunity.

    Including the parts of the Muslim world that was encouraging (begging?) Bush to do something about Iraq? We learned about that through the Wikileaks.

    No. Not everyone did. Nearly half of the people that actually voted thought it was bad enough of an idea to actually show up at the polls and say so.

    They "honestly wondered" that? Really? Bush ran for office in 2004 instead of declaring an emergency, and then allowed the 2008 campaigns to proceed, and yet "a lot of people" wondered that he might muscle his way into remaining in office?

    What sort of acid trips are they taking over at the Huffington Post?

    That would be YOUR goal for education. And mine, also, just for the record.

    The goal of education to the Federal government is another point of control. There is no point to the Dept. of Education. This country excelled just fine until it was created in 1970. Even then, it was declared insane to take money from citizens, launder it through a Federal bureaucracy and then hand it back to the states. The local government taxes me for schools. The state taxes me for schools. The fed taxes me for schools. Each has a separate bureaucracy to handle the collection and distribution of that money. And yet, the schools are still teaching essentially the same facts they were teaching 75 years ago, just with added layers of bureaucracy to handle the mandates that change every time we elect a new President.

    I was thinking the same thing. Worse still that he juxtaposed the two. Of course, you alway have to love commentators looking down their noses at "immature politicians", while calling them "nutty".

    Here, a local talk radio host was making these compassionate and heartfelt calls for civility in public discourse, and to support his point he called on none other that the Master of Civility himself, Howard Stern, who went on a diatribe calling Sarah Palin stupid. It made my brain hurt.
