I totally aggree that push-polling is advertising. Commerial speech is regulated more tightly than other speech. When you say or imply that you are conducting a poll that lends credibility to what is said in the poll. Information contained in a poll question is supposed to be established fact. However the problem is not that the facts maybe wrong or misleading it is that the call is being represented as a actual poll. Representing the call as a poll when it just an advertisement is called fraud. I'm not saying individuals that are employed to do this should be fined and thrown in jail but the people who setup these operations should be just as business would be if they used deceptive practices in order to sell something. (Example: you have just won a prize but first you have to buy some magazines). This is why push-polls are conducted in secret. An easy way to identify one is if the caller asks you if you are a member of the media or worker in a political organization and then subsequently a poll is conducted afterwards. If you are called by a push-poller as with any other fraud you should contact your attorney general and tell them about the occurrence.

No you are wrong. A crossword puzzle is the worst type of puzzle for a IT person to show their puzzle solving skill. A crossword puzzle consists of vague questions with meanings that are highly influenced by linguistic and cultural nuances of the puzzle creator. The reliance on ambiguity is antithetical to testing the logic skills of a person. Any IT person should be annoyed (like blinking text annoyance) by the this kind of vagueness in a puzzle.

A puzzle like sudoku is much more appropriate to test logic skills. It requires logic and memory to be able to complete it quickly. Sure you can complete it in a long time using simple techniques but if you are clever and have good short term memory then you can complete it more quickly. I do several puzzles a day and it is way more satisfying than crosswords. It's even a little addicting.

A fight broke out between two students and the teacher held one back. The student turned around. He looked at the teacher, paused to recognized him, and then elbowed him in the face.
If holding the student back got the student hurt by not allowing him to defend himself then elbowing the teacher could be a natural reaction. With only selective information being available about the fight you may be able to justify any punishment. The school administrators need to examine all the facts of the incident.

Is your company casting a narrow net by only hiring people with experience on your specific platform? The thing that is discouraging is that some companies look only at candidates with X years of experience on Y development platform. I would argue that programmers are not drag and drop either and a little investment could go a long way on certain candidates. Your company would get a higher hit rate on finding people who pass the programming test if HR changed its criteria. (Oh yeah, I vote no on the IDE's too. So this comment is still relevant.)
