  1. Is Spot Instances for unused capacity at fault? on Amazon EC2 May Be Experiencing Growing Pains · · Score: 1

I seen to recall a post on slashdot about Amazon Introduces Bidding For EC2 Compute Time. This announcement took place on 12/14/2009, which coincides with the increase in average ping latency as illustrated in cloudkick's chart. Was Amazon unprepared for the increase in demand created as a result of bidding off of the unused EC2 capacity?

I am sure that people came up with some pretty creative thing to do with low priced EC2 capacity.

  3. Comcast has dening this rumer on Comcast In Deal Talks With NBC Universal · · Score: 1

Typically Comcast does not comment on Mergers and Acquisition rumors. However, they have come out publicly and denied that there is a deal to acquire NBC. Comcast said, âoeWhile we do not normally comment on merger and acquisition rumors, the report that Comcast has a deal to acquire NBC Universal is inaccurate.â

NBC has not made any comment.

  5. Yahoo's My Web on Amazon Tries Its Hand at Tagging · · Score: 2, Informative

I recently started using Yahoo's My Web 2.0. It makes use of Tags to categorize "Bookmarks".

I think Tags are a great technology to categorize things into multiple categories. This was previously difficult to do with folders, or priorities. By using tags you can assign both the subject of the item, the source of the item, and the author without having to create specific fields for each of these categories.

I have started to do this with Yahoo's My Web. If I find an interesting Slashdot article I will tag it with a category and add a tag for Slashdot. This was previously not possible with favorites. Using favorits I could only categorize items to a category (even when I used sub folders).

Some of you might say that Del.icio.us has been doing this for some time. Well I became aware of the technology through the powerful Yahoo toolbar.

"On this page you'll find Linux driver (sources, binary packages) and documentation for so called Winmodems"

    http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/

Microsoft is creating a proprietary software WiFi simulator. The point is that once you move the processing of a WiFi signals to a proprietary software simulator the hardware will no longer work under Linux. This is what happened with the WinModem.

If I was an Network Admin I would not want each employee creating a connection that could be used to leap frog over my firewall. Most office computers are not running a firewall (ei Zone Alarm). So these computers would be connecting to the Internet unprotected. Imagine each of those connections as another way for a virus to get on your intranet.

Would you not want to control how the connection is made to the Internet at one location?

  8. Apple on New iPods on the Horizon · · Score: 5, Interesting

You all know what Apple is missing in its line up. A Apple DVR. There is Tivo, MythTV, and Microsoft Multimedia Center. Apple needs to enter the arena.

    They have the QuickTime technology.
They have the UI skills to make a better DVR.
    They have the Hardware experience.
    Wait and see.

Think about it. Why would you buy a iPod Video? Because, you have episodes of Star Track Enterprise, and Lost on your Apple DVR. You want to take them on the road. You need a Apple iPod Video that allows you to quickly download those programs over firewire right to a little hand held video player.

By Apple introducing a DVR they create instant content for the iPod Video. They are struggling to get the Movie Studios on board. So they need another way to create content for the iPod Video.

With out the Apple DVR where is the added value of a iPod Video?

There would not be much interesting to see of Domino. It is just a server, and would much like Apache does. If you ever saw Domin on PC it looks just like a DOS window with a couple of things printed on the screen

I have included bellow a imulated screen shot. If you still want to see one.
    -- Begin Simulation---
    #domino &
    Lotus Domino Starting

    Domino started successful

    #

    -- End Simulation---

This is why they do not include any screen shots becuase it is the client that is of interest, and that only runs on windows 95/98

Zope was actually created just for this purpose. It was created by a newspaper company for newspaper companies. Infi.net owned Digital Creations at one time. Infi.net was a web hosting service started by an owner of multiple newspapers to host the web sites for the newspapers that they owned. Infi.net started Digital Creations to develop solution to host their newspapers.

So as you can see Zope was created to manage the content of these newspaper companies.
