What irks me about the climate-change-CO2-fear-mongers is that we are forgetting about very real pollutants that are causing problems today. Just look at the current levels of mercury in the oceans. It has gotten to the point where it's not safe to eat many types of fish because the mercury content is so high. Sure, the global warming may be real and we might so happen to stop the planet from heating up, but then what? At that point other pollutants will have killed off all of our food sources.
Mass transit for passengers and cargo makes the most sense, but the powerful car lobby has lobbied against that for years. Where is all the high speed rail that would actually get people out of their cars? Instead of wasting money bailing out car companies why not use that same money to figure out ways to get us out of the need for owing a call all together?
You're right. This bill should really be called "A Tax Increase For All Americans." The estimated tax revenue the government expects to extract from the population from the passage of this bill is huge.
To me, the best pro-piracy argument is it allows people to not reward people for making shit products. If piracy wasn't available, I'd have to pay $60 to find out that new game is absolute ass-nuggets, I'd have to pay at least $10 to see a movie in the theatres to know it was crap, not including travel time, waiting time, concessions, etc. Why should someone benefit from my enforced inability to check the quality of their product before I shell out full price?
There is this thing call the internet that allows you to search for and find reviews of games, movies, and just about anything else you want.
Or the republicans can just wait for the democrats to f' it all up and have the pendulum swing back the other way.
The problem is that anytime one side 'wins' they think it gives them 'a mandate' to push any and all of their policies regardless of how extremist they are. This inevitably always backfires and ends with the other party in power once again.
So they finally fixed the Viper? I remember that used to be one of its biggest drawbacks - tons of power, but awful handling if you needed to do anything other than drive in a straight line.
Why can't other MMO's do this? Why as a PvPer do I have to suffer through PvE content?
Is an MMO what you really want though? What is sounds like you want is counter strike with more players. What many PvPers refer to as the grind other MMO players refer to as playing the game. If all you want is instant PvP action there are tons of games that support that now.
Think about it, you want full loot PvP while at the same time wanting to reach PvP end game content quickly. If you have both of those, what makes losing all your loot mean anything?
there were strategies to many areas of the game, and part of the fun was figuring out those strategies, mastering them, and doing it with a team. Often a big team. Yes, there were lots of flaws, but I think it far surpassed Yahtzee with pretty pictures.
I played DAoC as my first and only MMO and I agree with you 100%. It was more than just dice rolls. There was real strategy involved and player skill as well.
Exactly. I used to be anti-contract out of principal. I bought the phone up front and was month to month. It gives you some freedom to switch providers (and hope your phone works on the new provider), but it doesn't save you any money month to month. The rates were always identical. Since I stayed with the same company for years I ended being worse off because I didn't sign a contract and had to pay full price for the phone up front.
I understand the anti-argument too. The problem is that if you let kids do poorly in school while trying to teach them about life, you end up ruining the rest of their entire life.
Teenagers generally have zero idea about the real world. I'm 31 and still have very little idea about the real world, but at least I know that I don't know much. At 18 I thought I knew everything. Luckily my parents forced me to do some things (and I met some of the right people) that were the right things to do long term.
This is slightly off topic, but speaks to how little kids know about the future. A friend of mines nephew has attention span issues. Smart kid, but needs to be pushed. So his parents scraped up the cash and put him in military high school where he excelled. The military then offered to put him through military college and send him to med school. All he had to do was give 4 years when he was done. So at 29 or 30 he would have been a medical doctor with ZERO debt, have had a ton of experience, and be out of the military. That was easily his best option at a future. When the day came to sign the papers (he's 18 now so his parents can't force it) he decided not to. His reasoning? He met some 16 year old on myspace and she lives 9 hours away from the school.
5 minutes on the internet in February would have shown you that Apple usually updates the iPhones around this time every year.
Also, technology in general drops in price over time. I have some news for you. That computer you bought today is going to be cheaper 1 month from now. It might not even be for sale 9-12 months from now.
I'm with ATT and my 2 years is far from being up. The website told me I would get the upgrade pricing. If you're willing to sign another 2 year contract I bet one of their sales people will work with you. Everything is always negotiable.
Studies have shown that if you learn with a chemical substance in your system it will be easier to recall the information you learned with the same substance in your system again. I would imagine that this includes THC, caffeine, nicotine, etc...
Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I'm only getting a degree to earn more.
That's completely understandable especially if you're young. I know it wasn't until I got older that I could really appreciate learning for the sake of learning.
I think giving kids money for good grades is a great idea. At that age it's hard for kids to think very far into the future and money is an immediate and good motivator.
Where I work we have 2 small file processing apps that were written in VB6. They are slated to be converted/upgraded/made obsolete at some point, but new features keep taking precedence over changing the 2 working apps.
Good point! We should probably be killing mentally and physically retarded kids right when they are born. They are probably very costly on the system. Tell their parents to let their kids die gracefully.
Right, because all possible home countries in the middle east are beacons of enlightenment and tolerance, where no innocent person from a religious or ethnic minority would ever be tortured or killed./rolls eyes/
No one said that. Many people who were in Gitmo have been released back to their home countries. So, it does make you wonder why no one will take the ones that are left and awaiting release.
I do think it is up to the US to find somewhere to let these guys go if we are not going to charge them, but if they were just some innocent farmers we picked up one would think their home countries would not have a problem with us dropping them back off.
It completely depends on when people sign up and what deals they can get at that time. Also you need to add in special offers like ATT FAN or Verizons equivalent special customers program. Heck, if you bug Sprint enough they will give you massive discounts to stay once your contract is up.
At this point, pretty much everyone has a unique cell phone plan.
And since it's not a standard USB plug, I couldn't just plug it in to the plethora of USB ports around.
Do many phones have USB on the phone side? From my experience, the iPhone cable plugs into any USB port and will charge from it. You're right on the phone side it is a special connector (ipod connector), but every phone I've owned has been like that.
BTW, the iphone cable is just a standard ipod cable. Even people who don't own ipods seem to have some of those around at this point lol.
It's positive for a couple reasons. First, the consumer gets more choice about the premium content they want to buy. Sorta like buying individual cable channels as opposed to packages. Second, the developer now has more options on how to sell said content. They may be able to take more chances offering small pieces of content to determine a market prior to offering a full package. In general, I think more choice is always a good thing.
Don't think of the free apps going away, but instead you having more options on potentially buying some of the paid for apps.
You think the government keeps the market fair? What about the preferred contractors they hire?
How is it fair to me that my tax money is being used to bail out failing companies? These are the same companies I wouldn't voluntarily give any of my money to.
The government is the largest unfair enterprise on the block. They also have the power to seize anything of mine that they want and put me in jail if I refuse. At least with corporations I have a choice of whether or not to do business with them.

Idiots are universal.
Maybe he is posting such low salaries that he's only getting the idiots to apply?

And Nintendo has sold double that worldwide with the DS.

Wait...I thought that was the big complaint about capitalism? ;-)

They are even documented on Apple's website. I'm not sure why it's a surprise that the Pre is also going to be able to sync with iTunes.
