Radio gets paid through advertising. To get people to listen they play the popular songs. The RIAA can control the playlist all it wants, but eventually some of the more popular songs are going to show up through the non-label medium. At this point the radio will have start making choices about either letting listeners leave or start playing music from the non-label sources.

It won't happen overnight, but this is the direction that the industry is headed.

I only own a laptop and backup to USB drives anytime I'm at home. I usually always have my laptop with me so that keeps 2 copies of my data separate most of the time. Snow Leopard seems to focus more under the hood, but still seems to be adding a lot of new functionality.

The question is at what point do YOU think it's a major version? Do they need to re-write the entire kernel every time? That doesn't seem very prudent.

What you're describing is Memory Mapped IO (MMIO).

MMIO is very fast and simple because you use the processors same instructions to read/write from the 'mapped' memory as you do to any other memory. This allows the processor to treat devices simply as locations in RAM to read/write from.

The 64-bit world still uses MMIO, but it doesn't cause an issue like in the 32-bit world because you have a much larger possible memory address space.

What I see in this thread so far are a lot of people who think that you either work or get an MS. That's just not it is done today. Most people work while they get their MS (and many work while getting their undergrad too). In the end experience + MS > experience.

Smart phones removed the need for a cell phone and a PDA. Cell phone and music player convergence removed the need for a separate music player. For quick pictures you no longer need to bring a separate camera either. Why are people going to want to carry a separate device just to read news feeds and books when they already have a perfectly capable device in their pocket?

People do not want a separate reader device. Look at the success of Stanza on the iphone even with the iPhones short comings of a smallish screen. If/When Apple does release a double sized iPhone\iTouch like device the Kindle (and other reader-only devices) will die before they ever took off.

I'm am sure that they did some estimates of sales and that's how they figured out prices. More than likely the S class buyers are paying for a larger majority of the overall design costs than the C class buyers.
