I've been reading a lot of Heinlein the past months, and it seems that most of his books are based on hope for a better future. Not all books, but certainly many of them. Just keep in mind that the books were written more then a few years ago.
e.g.: the last short story I read, the name escapes me for now, deals with living on the moon. A huge cave has been sealed, and is being used for air storage, at 2 atmosphere pressure IIRC. The low gravity and high air density makes it possible for people to fly, with wings attached to the arms. I can only imagine the joy:)
That was a relatively simple example of what I meant, many times I closed one of his books and all I could think was "Wow..". Feel Good books indeed.
Dutch space achievements: look up the ANS and IRAS sattelites. Also try to google some info on the radio telescopes in Westerbork. I'm not really up to speed on current projects though.
Athlon 1GHz, 512Mb, Geforce3, cable, win98. Railgun efficiency drops from 25-30 to (sometimes even less then) 10%. In online instagib matches that's enough to loose from newbies. Kill Trillian and I start hitting people again. Maybe it's the Trillian skin I use.
Nothing. It is still a pretty popular protocol, at least here in the Netherlands. I do have *some* MSN contacts (using Trillian), but ICQ still has the big advantage of being able to send offline messages. It also has the big drawback of storing the contacts locally, making it difficult to share the same account at home and at work.
It does seem to be very heavy on graphics use. It is quite impossible to play Quake2 with Trillian active at the same time. I can't be bothered to find out why, but killing Trillian makes Quake2 playable again.
But it is not bloated in the sense of having to many options, IMHO.
So do I, and I am just as happy with it as you are. But it is windows-only, so for many people it is no alternative to Jabber. To the "Other OS"-people: don't bother to follow that link, it ain't even Open Source:)
Please do the same calculations for the chance of a Tu-154 and a Boeing 757, both at their cruising speeds and altitudes, colliding over Germany.
Granted, there are a few considerations that make this a more likely thing to happen then a rocket and airplane mid-air, but still, with all the flight safety measures that are in place, the chance would also be very very small.
I do agree that the chances of his rocket hitting anything flying are very small, but if it happens the result would be a disaster. The regulations are there to make it even less likely to happen. In our country there are not very many restrictions on ultralight flying, and as a result a couple of months ago a Belgian F-16 crashed after a mid-air collision with an ultralight, killing two of the three pilots involved.

Roads tend to travel at 0 km/h (ignoring tectonic plate movement). So saying you make them go twice as fast would keep them at 0 km/h. No lie there :)
(btw, that's 0 mph, and 0 mph, for the metric-impaired)
endboss?

Showing up at a wedding with a penguin on my shoulder? Ofcourse they will help me out. Using ironclad boots, probably.
Depends on your age, doesn't it?
Keep this up for a bit longer and you'll be sueing god... ):-> btw, ever get in trouble while surfing to your site and typing picek.ath0.cx?
"We" can't?
Clipper XP
Why do you keep winking at me? ;)
Earthium, Waterium, Firium and Windium. No gaps. :)
You can learn a lot about honeypots and network security in general on the Honeynet site. Browse the challenges, and the results, and be amazed ;)
Which is not very surprising for an OS that has had "One remote hole in the default install, in nearly 6 years!". An interesting read 'though.
By the way, there is a slashbox for OpenBSD Journal, which can be enabled here. It featured this story yesterday.
./, wtf?
Ofcourse. To defend the GPL against certain terrorist companies that try to Take Over The World.

The latter, obviously. It signifies "free as in beer"... :)
Bonus question: explain why this attack had so many valid originating IP addresses.
Indeed. It tends to end around them.
Not a chance. He definately does not have a light sabre. :)
You want a group of people to work on the themes (that will influence the popularity of KDE) where
[...] no one is skilled enough with GIMP to create themselves an icon [...] ?
Oh dear, I've been trolled. :)

Now go to CNN.
