    Aside from the obvious renaming issue, have you considered the fact it is now easier for someone to enumerate, or guess names of machines (thus their function) without connecting to them first?

    In some organisations, this could be perceived as a security problem.

    2) A Worm is a stand alone program that makes it's way through a system ... it isn't attached to anything.

    Actually a worm can also be a set of programs (or program segments, and one could argue in this way the segments are attached or communicate to each other.

    Although this alludes to just 'deleting the program', history tells us it might not be as easy as this.

    I've used Sneakemail for about 12 months now with success.

    For those that are unaware of how Sneakemail works it's related to one time email addresses, and routing the mail to your 'real' address.

    Admitedlly a hassle, but if you use a unique alias for each web registration, etc... it is quite simple to determine which one was responsible for the UCE and delete the alias.

    I use several Yahoo accounts and my spam rate has been non-existent since I started using it. it seems to work well.

    Fair enough but what if the company later wants to retain or exercise rights over the software, based on the premise that it was developed on company time and resources by an employee.

    It isn't hard to imagine a scenario where the company isn't so generous.

    I personally wouldn't develop open source software while at work, as I would imagine most employers have employment clauses regarding IP and who owns what (eg. previous patents, inventions, tools, etc...).

    Have there been any high profile incidents like this?

    Actually, it is possible to use NTFS on removable media, although not recommended.

    It is correct that some networks cannot even be 'integrated' due to their classification levels.

    However several classes of network products do exist, commonly called Trusted Network Separation products that can be used to provide unidirectional communications between two gateways (ie. the host machines on a low and high class network). These are sometimes called Data Diodes owing to the way they work.

    These products are accredited for use within military organisations worldwide.

    Yeah I agree. A mate of mine who supports an office of older workers that have only started to use computers relays his 'frustrations' to me etc.

    There are people out there who don't know how to double click let alone right click, or remap a file association. But why would Microsoft make it easier (if you can the current method hard) for users to remap associations potentially to competitor products?

    Actually compiling from source doesn't necessarily solve the problem, nothing does. You're always placing a large amount of trust in anyone that touches the system, the compiler writer, the hardware, the source, etc...

    Afaik, the FTO (Foreign Terrorist List) hasn't been updated since 1999 via FAS anyhow. As of then the IRA wasn't included on the list.

    Australia phased out the old analog system. Now it's either CDMA or GSM. GSM is the choice for capital cities, and CDMA for the main highways and the coastline.

    Actually... That's exactly what we had for 2 weeks @ 24 hours a day worth of Simpsons on Foxtel (cable) in Australia. I believe a _lot_ of simpsons were shown over the period. Bam!

    I work in the Systems Analysis Laboratory at Boeing in Brisbane. There is a Connexion office just up from us.

    I imagine there's no real reason why customers can't choose their OS given that it will be BYOC, but it will interesting to see how network and performance requirements will be addressed.

    Thing is, on short haul I wouldn't want to be checking my email or replying to memos - I'd want to get away from work on timeframes such as that, and game and entertainment up. :)

    Iridium LLC suffered from the original pricing problems with handsets and service costs. I'm yet to see any figures that addresses these problems for data. A lot of comapnies that bought into the revamped Iridium get value, as they don't have to wear the huge infrastructure costs as the original did.

    Umm... here in Brisbane, Queensland I don't normally pay more than $0.60 - $1.00 per cd, sometimes 650s; sometimes 700s.
