I guess it would be nice if there were 2 passwords associated with encryption. One to read it and one to totally scrog it. I know if I were carrying around dubious or secret information it would be handy. For every attack there is a defense. Then when confronted by a border nazi you just say my password is "destroy the contents of my drive".
These are better? Design a hospital with pro e. You know people design more than manufactured widgets with cad stations. As far as CATIA is concerned my only experience with that was in the 90's and you want to talk about shit. That is too nice a word for that software. Catia is better how? I just don't get that at all. I figured you would try and dredge up microstation as it could be argued that it is actually useful. Its real easy to take shots at the big guys. They are after all big and slow, they make a great target. There are lots of things that autodesk is up to that just mystify me and seem stupid no doubt. Overall though I have seen their products improve and their prices go down and this without any real competition. So I will just consider my question unanswered and frame my opinion of the value of your input accordingly. Anyone can respond with a quip about this piece of crap or that piece of crap running on linux. I like linux don't get me wrong its a nice little busy box toy that I can use for a distraction. As to is real usefulness to a graphics professional it offers nothing. We can argue about how important that is but, I'd have to say its probably more important than most people here would admit. So to argue about open gl and its usefulness is really pointless.
You think their products are shit? as opposed to what? obviously you have a vast knowledge on the topic. it sure would be enlightening to hear you expand on your flame. nothing linux or apple has to offer even comes close to providing an alternative. as to the OPs opinion his point is valid. why would that code base ever be ported? there is no incentive unless the platform they are on just becomes massive fail. they used to support unix back in the day. If I had one wish it would be that they open sourced r10 or something. why they would i can't answer but, it sure would be interesting to see what would happen. then you could make some "not shit" and back up that big mouth of yours...
Reminds me of that 1984 television commercial vilifying IBM. When apple does it then all of a sudden they are doing it for their users. The irony is precious
Now this is some real troll food. You my friend are suffering from grand dillusions. You say nothing yet accuse me of being ingnorant. you associate nonsensical terms like militant ignorance? where did you pick up such a ridiculous attack? its meaningless and then you follow it up with absolutely nothing intelligent nor even so much as some meaningful "enlightened" wisdom from your obvious vast knowledge and experience. You are obviously suffering from some form of narcissist megalomania. either that or my world view upsets your little world under that rock you live under with all the other self adulating geniuses you hang out with. I suppose your response will be what? "your mama" look you are obviously neither educated nor experienced and you just want to rationalize to yourself why you are a loser. maybe you are full of guilt because your mommy and daddy are rich and spoiled you. It could be you are just off you meds. I don't really care but, come on if you are trying to get a incendiary rant out of me you are gonna have to do better than this. you troll like a girl.
I did read it. Nice retort there though buddy. if you have to resort to nasty personal insults why don't you just admit to yourself that you are massive fail? your post was incoherent, not very well thought out and just plain ignorant. you'd trade this for that, my prollems are real your aren't and at the end of the day you resort to calling me a doodie head. All that intellect and possibly even a college education and this is the best you can up with? no wonder your life sucks. develop some skills....
you must be 13. My point really was to the poster insinuating that I had it good and young people today had it tough. what i was trying to convey that if you persevere and get your priorities straight things will work themselves out. look homie I am a high school drop out and raised in a trailer. I have had horrible jobs. I took anything I was offered. I went home fitlhy everyday until I was about 30 years old. even though I was a "computer dude". Every generation before us had their difficulties. whining has never solved a single problem, action does. As for the "meltdown" you can blame PC government interference as much as anything else for that. You think I liked watching people move into better houses than mine with 3 percent ARM 80/20 loans, (to dodge mortgage insurance), etc. that made less money than me? now we are supposed to throw a pity party for the well meaning, greedy and stupid? Now is a fantastic time to buy! this is a great thing! if you aren't leveraged to the hilt because you feel just because you went to big kid high school you should have every convenience that has been devised. if you can't afford it all and still have money left over for your daily triple mocha bla bla bla then you are being abused? prosperity isn't in the big paper. Its life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Do the math on a 13 percent mortgage see what you would qualify for. I never even imagined owning a house when I was 20.I suppose I could have just sat around and whined until now crying about how insurmountable things are, I am sure I would be better off right now. let me know how it turns out for you.
as for the blowback from viet nam huh? As for the oil crisis there was a second one around 78. You know about the time that jimmy sat frozen and impotent facing the iran hostage situation while america went into a deep malaise. Remember this is day five hundred and twenty something? No prolly not. As for this time being a parallel to the great depression, you are such a drama queen, we aren't even close to that. ever read the grapes of wrath? As far as those great paying factory jobs go, you have never worked in a factory have you? I have. those jobs pretty much suck too. As for your rediculous argument about unemployment, why are there 20 million or so illegals here? huh? face it you are a crybaby. pull up your pants and at least start seeing the glass for what is it. Its not half empty. It may be half a glass if you want to be a pragmatist. Its defeatist hate america first thinking that destroying this country. So sit in your dark corner shake your fist at sky and curse the light. I am sure your life will improve with that mindset...
yeah I came up in the 80's right after obama's buddy jimmy demolished the economy with 13% mortgages double digit unemployment and regan's wonderful tinkle on the poor economics. You know when bush's daddy ran things and lost to clinton over the simple phrase "its the economy stupid". Yup it sure was wonderful back in the day....
what was i thinking things are so rough now. 5 percent mortgages practically full employment. we need a change, i miss the carter days... So don't learn anything about the past, wallow in self pity and soon the good ole' days will return. Especially if you let emotion rule your actions.
I see a lot of bitterness in the posts here. I have been in the "biz" over 20 years. My first jobs I got because I could spell computer. I started life as a programmer. I was managing a multiserver Novell network before they invented the silly thing called a CNE. Which by the way is a total abuse of word engineer. I have come to a conclusion that most of you will find unpalatable. IT is a sideline. I make a good buck. My job is one that most of you certified something or anothers would refer to as an end Luser. What do I do? I draw. I can make the case to my boss that there is a direct corellation to what I do and how much money I make him. You see I think so, he can hire people do work that can't or wont. I don't require any IT. You see I am a tradesman from the old school I understand all of my tools. I make it my purpose to. I also make it my purpose to make the old man more money than I cost him. So to me this is all hyperbole. You think that because you are brilliant in your own estimation that somehow business should bow at the altar that you have created for yourself. I learned very early at the first 30m a year company i worked for what the "bean" counters thought of my ilk. You see computer gear was a tad more expensive back in the day. The only reason I even survied even thrived in that environment was that I had what was considered useful skills. You know like dude I actually helped them to build and program their product. I cared about the companies purpose more than I cared about how absolutely fragging cool and brilliant I am because I knew more about all this "technical" CRAP than all the stupid idiot LUSERS did. I see no downside ever but then again things have changed a bit. I just don't see how anyone worth their salt would ever worry making a good living or even finding a job that had a good fundamental knowledge of computers. Then again I am not a prima dona either I actually work for my boss.
I just looked up inkscape because I had not heard of it. I am not referring to illustrative art. Pro E is getting to be more popular but has no use whatsoever in AEC. Also I doubt you can do much in the way of plant piping or electrical (industrial control) with it. Maya is simply and acquisition of Autodesk. They bought it for obvious reasons its a killer graphics app. AutoCAD has a published user base of 8 million and has a 85 percent market share. Nothing manifests in the real world without drawings. Everything including the keyboard that I am typing on went from concept to reality through the visual communication medium known as "Drawings". A word processor, database, spreadsheet, or picture app just does not suffice. There is no alternative. AutoCAD is the killer app. Yet I see no interest whatsoever by anyone of any merit that is a proponent or advocate of Linux, open source, or whatever you want to call the alter o/s movement that seems to get this at all. Now for the real inflammatory statement. Until the technical core of industry wants Linux in their shops it will never penetrate big business beyond IT. Which by the way is a cost and not a profit center to these people.
Linux will never really go beyond the secretaries desktop in business until someone does figure out ways to create applications that suit a given companies needs. Technical goes beyond silicon and software. Manufacturing, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, and Heavy Industry will never embrace an operating system. They will embrace tools that allow them to make money. Cost is so not an issue with them. No company down stream of these business will ever embrace anything that they (industry, etc.) can't or won't use. The reason is obvious these enterprises are the money pump plain and simple. One thing that all the really smart people in the IT field seem to fail to grasp is that these people are highly technical and that they communicate with pictures. Now before you sporge me with lame cad and modeling app links. I have been drawing for over 20 years. I started simply because we had the best computers in the company. I know what I need to be productive and there simply isn't anything that is even remotely usable that runs on linux. I don't really want to hear about wine either it is massive fail when it comes to the high end drawing and design packages. The ability to draw and print very precise pictures is as important as any other app and is woefully absent from the open source offering. That being said, once upon a time IBM did have an ok drafing platform. Maybe they should sell the rights to it to someone and get it ported and working in linux. That might convince the big boys to take a look at porting their stuff. No one expects this stuff to be free. No one will even consider an alternative that doesn't provide it either. Its a real deal killer, I have said it before and I will say it again.
Oh and his post was more of a troll than it was funny or sarcastic or ironic. I was actually paying him a compliment. It was a rather nice troll. then again you would have to know the contents of the 4th amendment to the united states constitution to understand that. what I posted was actually troll food. and it worked didn't it?
Well then sarcasm is funny? Oh! and that was sarcasm was it? of coarse everything that I post is totally serious business. I guess it should really be someone who clues in on blatant sarcasm and thinks their brilliant and would know subtle sarcasm if it bit them on that ass. you know kinda like you...
I could just as simply go find legitimate links saying the opposite is true. Typical style, go find evidence you want to believe and shove it in everyone's face. It is a simple fact of debate you can not prove a negative. I merely suggested that this may be an unintended consequence. Also that I hear no wailing from the tree huggers about the poor birds. This I interpret to mean that it fits in with their "agenda". Save the moose, dont drill because you run the risk of despoiling a tiny fragment of land in the middle of nowhere but, dot the landscape with huge rotating blades that may of may not kill birds of prey, let the consequences be damned! Because I "feel" good about it! After all how you feel about shit should drive all of our actions right? If you can find a website that agrees with you that makes it fact right? Well, ask the Australians about rabbits. Read my post. Making a new mess to fix the old mess is not a solution. My comment was meant to point out the hypocrisy of the middle-class liberal well-intentioned dimwits that go on and on about this and that. While dismissing or ignoring anything that contradicts their foregone conclusion. Just as you have.
well, since we are on the subject. has anyone looked into the bird kill statistics of wind farms. by some a accounts they are horrific. so we can not cut down a single tree because some green farting dodo bird, or build on land because a purple toed three eyed frog may go extinct but massacring birds in the name of starving plants of carbon dioxide is okie dokie. how about the law of unintended consequences? lets make a new mess to clean up the old mess that will give us a new mess to clean up later.... ???. PROFIT! carbon dioxide is not carbon monoxide and it seems that it is being equated to that for fear mongering purposes to me.
well technically you are pumping electrons through gates and twiddling bits in registers. This can be best described mathematically he said with a stupid grin. agree register = 1
I think it would make an excellent place for out avian friends to stop and rest. Think about all the ways you could abuse scale around it and really twist up passer by's heads.

It must be true, so far I have only found this one.
Chelloveck
Anything worth killing is worth over-killing.
unless you want to eat it
that's funny...
are we gonna have to prefix it with GNU/ or get flamed interminably by him?

NICE TROLL,
unfortunately we have become a nation sheep and you can't even get a rise out of the drones with this one.
who modded this insightful any way?

if you replaced obama with mccain this would have been moderated to five. if slashdot is one thing its consistent...
