Nuclear reactors are generally not economical and (safe) mining or reprocessing is hard to do.

Effective generators require "rare" elements for magnets and the mining process isn't too environmental. Effective solar cells also require a lot of poisonous chemicals and elements, they also require significant processing to produce elements of sufficient purity.
