Easy, so create a laptop w/ an EASIBLY removeable display panel and provide a transflective option. Hell, before it started snowing today in NEw England it was 97 degress outside. I was out working w/ the laptop but needed to sit in tha shade b/c I could see a damn thing (especially w/ sunglasses on)!
So the research continues, searching for the perfect laptop - nice big screen, work in the sun, nice contrast, doesn't get too hot. Laptops suck when you actaully can't use them on your lap b/c they are too damn hot!
Years ago (while using Windows 3.1 or 95) I met a piece of software that tried to do this. It did it, very poorly. Flashed messages, intrusively.
They intended to help you stop smoking, stop eating, live healthier, increase self esteem, pay for registration fees. You were able to select banks of things you wanted to get into your subconcious. You could drill-down and select specifics. Not a bad setup but:
It was very intrusive and didn't work well. NOt a bad idea but if it worked better then i'm sure you would;ve heard about it.
Have we heard enough about why the.com "era" failed? Enough "dot bomb" and other witty phrases refering to a once disturbingly propserous era. The fact is that people got dumb for a while. Things have worked for a certain way for a long time. I am sick and tired of reading the news about how someone on wall street had a bad weekend and now the nasdaq is down 200 points. Little do we know it, it is a coffee shop across the street of the trading rooms that switched their regular coffee to folgers crystals two years ago - lets see what happens?
Before buying my house, I lived in several small apartments. I (and when I would have them) and my roommates usually left the computers on 24/7. This also included usage of several large monitors (21") SO - as long as the windows were kept closed and the drafts from opening and closing outside doors were kept to a minimum - we could heat the room w/ no need for another heat source. It worked rather well and kept expenses down during the cold massachusetts months.
It is just the opposite in a server room though - you end up paying more for venting and air conditioning in order to keep things cool.
According to Sony - "9 times out of 10, they won't touch it". However, it is a known problem. Worst case scenario - remove the mod chip, and pay the $120/$140 (I don't recall) + shipping (you can drop it off, it is near Worcester, Ma) and you'll be all set.
The worst fallout I have experienced from such a tactic is head hunters calling you non-stop: "Hi, I am so-and-so, I have the perfect job for you - call me" IF you call them, they are full of BS and waste your time trying to pimp you out to job positions that you don't want jsut so they get paid. And they never stop. They "follow up" every few months, snail-mail, e-mail - it never ends!
I don't think this is isolated, but if I (and the few other people I know) am in a unique situation, please let me know;)
It stopped playing blue disc's This is VERY common and if you are out of your 90 day warranty then you need to ship your unit to Sony and pay them $140 to fix it...
I spoke w/ a few Sony representatives about their products (Sepcifically a PS2) a few months back. Officially - to them, their stance was once you put a mod chip in their product, it is no longer a Sony product. This being the case, I don't understand what their problem is:) I am still going to buy Sony licensed games for my now non-Sony product;)
This seems to be taking geocaching to the next level. Geocaching is a GPS treasure hunt. People leave little tupperware containers and ammo boxes full of trinkets, disposable cameras and a notepad at specified coordinates then report those coordinates to geocaching.com in order for other people to find them, write down who they are and when they were there and take something from the cache and leave something of their own. It is something to do with your GPS recvr and the family - and its fun:)
This isn't new news. After Carter closes down the series he plans to (allegedly) grab mulder & scully (and whomever is in the current cast who wants to join in on the party) and put together another movie. It was suggested that we could be looking at another trek-like franchise of movies and spin-offs.
I heard that these speeds would only be seen within 1/2 to 1/4 mile from a tower and it would fall-off quickly beyond that. 3G sounds cool and promising BUT, can/when/will if ever happen?
I disagree. I am the technical director at my firm (eCommerce application development) and I find it difficult to get respect from customers. Most are ok with my age, some find it amusing, but a few others have raised flags, not to me, but to my colleagues. They usually calm the customer with expressions of trust and anecdotes involving examples of my technical prowess. However, there are times that I find it rediculous. Older generations TEND to not handle change well. The younger generations TEND to handle change well. I have alwasy been told that "You are the future, you and your friends will be the ones running the world one day" Well when does that happen? When do those in power now relinquish not power but offer respect to those who choose to step up and meet these challenges with boldness and respect. Perhaps it is an uphill battle. I know I am greatful to those who have allowed me certain chances throughout my life and career. I hope to return the chance of experience to others even younger. Maturity and knowledge is a factor, not age.

We all knew this was going to happen. It begins, wearable, trackable equipment... It can turn itself on? That can't be good.
