Sooo, what, you are runing around in a perpetual sunset?
I agree, multi-player would be bad ass, even if it were nothing more than connecting two (or more) PS2's together in a battleship/capture the flag-type-setup.
Another interesting feature would be working in natural disasters like earthquakes, which cause riots, where you need to complete a mission under the guise of a distraught gang member because the man is keeping you down so you loot, pillage and take on PD.
We can all dream, just gotta sit tight till they release it in time for holiday sales, lousy marketing... Making us wait so they can make more money!!!
Ohh yeah, and what is up with their names?! They were the Mario Brothers, Mario & Luigi - so their parents name one kid "Mario Mario"? WTF?! Who does that?!
And boy did they know how to dress. One in red, one in green - and we never got a christmas special out of em...
There was this silly game once - these two plumbers where running around throwing fire, punch blocks of brick and stomping on walking mushrooms - while a dude who was flying around in a cloud threw spikey animals at you and flowers, yes flowers, shot fireballs at you. Then they would enter various castles, trying to kill big lizards. And right when you thought you were done, there was another talking dude named, of all things, toadstool, who told you "Sorry dude, this was a fake out, you gotta keep doing this. And when you get to the end it doesn't get any easier - there is a maze you need to navigate through." A flagpole signified your completion of a level yet had no relation to the plot of the game.
Then there were a bunch of sequels and spin-offs... Something about an evil twin and a pet dinosaur that shat and threw eggs, I don't know, I wasn't paying attention.
I would like to see an analysis of time spent on the job vs. pay. I know that my wife, who makes less than half of what I do, makes more than I do per-hour due to the fact that I would find myself working for 20-30 hours straight often. On a daily basis I work in excess of 10 hours.
This, I would assume, is a reason why there are so many of us unhappy (I am not unhappy, which is why I work constantly) - but we don't get over time for the >40 hrs/week worked - do the other "happier" professions qualify for overtime? I believe at least one of them does.
A lot also has to do with the people you interact with. Florists, for example (as mentioned), don't have to deal with people watering their flowers with battery acid and come to you saying "I didn't do anything, it just died".
Realism is not required for enjoyment - as with most things in life entertaining (fiction writing in general - tv, books, etc - and paintball) - it is people doing things or thinking about things that they normally can't do. Video games allow the immagination to wander in a 'new', interactive dimension. I would argue that realism, in most cases of fiction will hinder rather than help - until you start talking about virtual sex and other reality/pleasure based 'games' where realism combined with configurable fantasy is key.
But the topic of 'fun' is what I am curious about. There is something decidedly and disturbingly addicted to making abombinable snowman smack a falling penguin with a baseball bat. It isn't particularly fun, yet it is higly addicitve. There is little-to-no skill involved, yet I have seen people 'play' for hours.
So is there a different between addictive and enjoyable? SSX is fun, hitting penguins is addictive. What do you think?
Is the move off-shore to decrease development spending? Where will the "money that is saved" go? Will this saved money offset the cost of some of the outrageuosly priced software packages out there? Or will it go to the 'powers that be'? Has anyone been involved in a situation like this?
After checking out all of the articles I did not see a mention as to a possible recalculation or restatement of the age of planets in our solar system.
Is it a possibility that any of the planets, including earth, are much younger than previously thought?
If so it could offer some information on how quickly life actually "forms".
A large problem seems to be that the facilities and resources are not available to police such "crimes" as spamming. If there were a portion of local PD set aside to monitor, investigate and arrest said offenders then people would be a bit more worried about getting jailed than getting one of their myriad of internet connections shutdown.
Shouldn't this have been posted a little later in the evening (morning)
Anyway: I do not drink coffee yet I function with little more than 4 hours of sleep. My beverage of choice is water. After realizing many years ago that soda rotted your teeth and had WAY too many calories per can (most juices too) I kicked the habit. I enjoy the occasional cappaucino now and then, but nothing like I used to with nightly visits to Dunkin D's during college.
My question for the everyone: how effective is self-determined sleep depravity? I tend to just "keep myself awake". Sure, I get to the point to where I can no longer function and pass out - in fact if I go to bed before this point I tend to not be able to sleep because I can still be doing "more productive" things with my time.
Are there signs that I am not getting enough sleep? I know it is time to go to sleep when I start slurring my words, which generally happens in the 30-40th hours of being awake.
I am asked how I do it, my answer is that I just do. I just have stuff to do and believe that sleep is a waste unless I need it. Do you find yourself doing this? Is this common among people you know?
I DO get a kick seeing all of the drones "needing" their coffee in the morning - people don't realize they are hooked on the caffine. More addictive than crack!
I am a proud Tivo owner and it is fabulous. For what is offers the price isn't bad. I have turned several people on to Tivo. Most of them did not realize what it did exactly.
I would imagine that if they were to shift their marketing strategy to reflect a "go to the store and play with it" attitude they will do a bit better.
If they were able to get the press-here-to-record-during-commercials feature to work better AND let the general public know about it.
So they are suggesting they are going to be combining this technology with AI or are they developing their own type of AI. THIS is was could lead to Terminator 2 and Matrix-type scenarios. Instead of the wing "morphing" this plane "talks" to other planes and reconfigures its flight path to something a bit more to its liking.
And, hell, throw a couple 18g inversions in there for fun.
This is some guys expierence making an ENCLOSURE. I got excited, wrapping a cone w/ wire, finding a good permenant magnet. NOPE - This is something that MANY MANY people have done. It is making a subwoofer that would be the challenge. Then again, making a proper enclosure isn't easy...
Fox has had some gold in the past that they gambled on and won, and gambled on and lost. Greg the Bunny is boring, Family Guy is great. Although I did not like them, 90210 and Melrose Place were gold for the network. X-files will be generated only syndication funds, nothing substantial.
There has got to be something that I missed, I do not understand how they could cancel shows like Futurama and Family Guy.
According to forbes, as of March 2004, Probst was making $150k/yr and held $150M in stock.

Oh yeah - and all this for some prude who would never give it up to the fat plumbers - though they do make good money...
:)
And Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper have some SERIOUS acting talent (and good agents too).

This means that next time I am in Italy I can play games from China?
Nice reference - looks like no one gets it. I hate that.
"Want some rye?? 'Course you do!"
-Return to Zork
And the theme music to Hunt The Wumpus
Umm, Didn't we all learn this watching The Running Man?
"Uplink underground, uplink underground. If you say that one more time, I'll uplink your uplink your ass, and you'll be underground!"
But the first that comes to mind is Hudson Hawk - good flick

So a new police task force would be cool.
No good /. posting should go without the obligatory Simpsons quote.
"That wasn't your mayonnaise, was it?"

This is where it gets interesting...
Are they going to be using plywood and fabric too?

Next time get the title of the article right!
But it's so cool :)
