Well, that's pretty much the reason the Constitutional Court (equivalent to US Supreme court, except it rules directly on laws rather than trials) struck it down the first time - an internet connection is necessary enough for Free Speech that you need a trial with a judge to be deprived of it.
Well, you don't have to have the software installed - but these software logs will be the only ones that will be easily used as proof that your computer was downloading stuff...
That's how US technology was built up. With foreign educated brains.
The thing the US has understood, and that allowed it to really build a technological, and then economical and military, lead over the rest of the world, was that getting the top of the world's brains working for them was the thing to do. And that's what your grad school was doing, as long with the rest of the US : freeriding on the primary, secondary and undergraduate education provided by the rest of the world, in order to build its research capacity. Not making them pay for grade school was the least it could do.
Good. Now the US government will soon put you in eternal custody, for the knwoledge of how to factorize large number must not be spread. Because that's what you need to do to reproduce a smart card...
Actually, faking paper money or lying one's way through credit cards applications are probably easier.
Smart cards can be hacked. I should know, I used refill my public telephone calling card back when I lived in Argentina.
Phone calling cards use a vastly different technology from modern smart cards ; the former is a glorified abacus, the second an actual computer (built to prevent hacking). Okay, computers are abacus, too, but those on microchips run Java now.
Counting efficiency does not need to involve machines. Counting votes has the advantage of being massively parallel, which means that with a million volunteers (i.e. less that one percent of the electorate ; if you can't get that amount of volunteers, you have other problems about your democracy), votes will be safely counted, with a slow, reliable process, in about two hours, for all of the US.
They are not stupid enough to make it, rather. Imagine you're selling some piece of hardware, you'd rather make sure it breaks shortly after the end of its warranty, so that you can sell more of it, rather than have one that lasts so long you get out of business before selling its replacement.
Microsoft, despite working on software rather than hardware, has adopted a similar model of quick obsolescence of what it sells. It seems to work.
Depends on where from the.ch domain. A good part of it speaks French, where that word comes from. And even the switzertotsch speakers should know enough French to avoid that kind of mistakes.
The point is that, since English is widespread among many different ethnics, English will be much more used as an intercultural language ; i.e. When a Dane wants to communicate with a Japanese, they will use English instead of Chinese. Only chinese people speak Chinese, whereas there are many non-native, second language English speakers.
By sizeable CHINESE population. Whereas English is used by africans, Indians,... Chinese is exported only with its own people ; the chinese language isn't spoken by non-ethnically chinese people, only by emigrants from china.
Thank you for calling me ignorant, but i DO have knowledge of genetics. Also, please be aware that what works with dogs doesn't necessarily work with humans. We are an intelligent species, and as such have reflexivity. That means among many thing that acquired behavior has a much stronger influence upon us. Whereas wolves only show one kind of social organisation, human societies are all different, and not based on genetics but rather on the economical niche occupied by this society. i.e., social organisation among the humans is determined by history, not genetics.
Also, if the "homosexuality" gene is supposed to be recessive, then to account for 20 per cent of the world's population it is widespread indeed. Assuming that homosexuals breed even slightly less that heterosexuals, then over perhaps ten generations the proportion of homosexuals would be WAY under 20 per cent. That's what Darwin showed : phenotypes that present a disavantage disappear.
Of course this would require that homosexuality, even if it is indeed caused by the genotype - which has yet to be proved - would be caused by a single gene ; quite a broad, unfounded assumption you are making. My ignorance at most equals yours.
The main difference between Chinese and English is that where Chinese is a National Language, used only in one country, English is an international Language, spoken natively on every continent, and the foremost second language. That is why, even if many people on the 'net speak chinese, English will remain prominent for most 'international' sites.
The spoken Mandarin and Cantonese are diferrent, but the written Languages are exactly the same. And the Internet is mostly a written medium.
How many actual English words do you need to know to actually program in any languages? 20, 30 at most? Very easy to learn, much easier to learn than English, as a whole language. Indeed the vocabulary isn't the hardest stage of learning a language ; the really tough part is the grammar, and the idiomatic expression. Saying that a prgramming language is in English is meaningless.
Knowing the very few words needed to "program" in HTML is very far from speaking English. Many of my friends can program, but don't speak English. Programming is certainly not done in any natural language ; understanding english and mastering HTML are two very diferrent things.
Yes, Yes, Sure. All your behaviors are genetics. All your thoughts come from your genes. You have been programmed. You will be assimilated.
Now, please, have you ever heard about such thing as the ENVIRONMENT? You know, why kids are sent to school instead of to the fields, why they are left with their parents? Because the Envirenment matters. You won't get the same IQ if you never think between the ages of 6 and 14.
ummm That could be that two genetic twins get the same education and develop the same syndrom (not saying it's the parent's fault). Hereditary correlation doesn't prove genetic causes (the Royalty gene hasn't yet been found. Neither has the homosexuality one). It might just be that growing up in a "geeky" environment leads to higher odds of growing autist.
The problem of Microsoft's monopoly will not be solved by making Windows emulating layers over Linux. Their monopoly is based on the "double" monopoly they have on Office and on Windows. If Office runs on Lindows or on Wine, you can trust Microsoft will find ways to make it runeable only on Windows, as complete compatibility is unpossible with all the undocumented features there is in Windows. IMHO the only way to break Microsoft's Monopoly is to break it on the 'Office' Apps, not on the OS layer.
Because there's no coal power stations in France ?
For those that believe this is trollish, see that pair of links documenting the point...

The thing is, you have to "secure" your connection by installing government mandated software... That will only be available for windows, probably.
Computer go players are now one Dan, and rising... Already better than most amateurs ; pros can't beat Mogo with 9 stones anymore.
What exactly prevents women from doing the same thing?

Which in turn is as simple as breaking RSA. Because that is what's encrypting the communication between the ATM and the smart card.
Blue cards have been Smart Cards for quite some time, i.e. more than a decade.

The reason not to run windows app is that it makes RMS unhappy :)
One of the motivation behind GNU/Linux was free software. Running Windows apps goes against that ideal.
