Hmm, I haven't used Apache under NT/Win2k, but I would assume it runs as a service, yes? If so, and it runs as LocalSystem, simply create a seperate user and edit the service properties to run Apache as that user. Then duplicate, and tell ADO to use trusted.
Use the OLE DB Provider for SQL server, otherwise no trusted connections are available.
If you use connection strings (best way, DSNs involve a registry hit when read) it should look like
Very good questions, actually:). I haven't done ASP in a long, long time, but I recall that there is a mechanism built in that allows you to retrieve login information from a file that isn't publicly available. There's probably other neat hacks to get the info from the registry, too.
Don't do either. Set a specific password for the user IIS runs as (IUSR_, and IWAM_ if you use out of process), and tell IIS to use those account details. Then duplicate the user name and password on the SQL box, and use Trusted authentication only. No passwords stored anywhere, except the SAM database
A password prompt at install is not something only Microsoft has decided to not bother with. I recall MySQL not forcing me to set one either. Although it tells me too, it doesn't force it.
SQL 2k does force you to click a checkbox if you want to leave sa's password blank, and SQL 7 has a nice explanation of why it's bad.
MSDE defaults to named pipes, as does SQL in general *spit*
You still have to specifically tell it to listen on TCP/IP.
Oh and you get an icon in your system tray, so you do kind of know it's there
Simple solution - development boxes go into their own OU, and thus programmers have full admin rights to the development servers, and their own workstations but nothing else.
However no-one gets rights to uninstall anti-virus software.
If you really want to be strict, and, as the topic seems to insinuate, that you're writing registry entries, well frankly, the software that you're writing should be using a particular registry tree, which developers can be given access to, usually HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\your company name and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT if you're writing COM objects.
If you're writting Windows drivers, well then, you need full rights.
The developers whined when it was implemented until asked to prove how it stopped them working/developing. It didn't. They shut up. They tried the same argument on the SQL DBA saying they all needed SA access, when all SQL requests should go trhough the DBA on their teams.
Frankly, once you have a standardised development build, exactly what software do you need to install and uninstall every day?
Must be XP only then. Certainly doesn't work under Win2k, and I've DRMed clean test files and issued clean licenses for them.
It doesn't even get the key IDs right for me
Well as I'm working on stuff based around the MS DRM platform right now (look just shut up ok?), I was interested to see if it would work. From the comments here it looks like no-one tried it yet.
Guess what. It doesn't work. At all. I generated a whole bunch of protected files, with varying license rules, and it couldn't work with any of them.
Still, the technical documentation was a nice read.
It's bound to be cracked at some stage, this just isn't it. Even microsoft themselves say that there are ways to get around it, unfuck for example.
"Significantly, the FastTrack system encrypts all communications"
They then go on to discuss the packet communications and types.
Doesn't the DCMA prohibit them from doing playing with encrypted packages and attempting to decrypt them to see what's happening? Or don't I understand the law correctly?
I've dealt with both Intertrust, Microsoft and Real for DRM solutions for clients.
Intertrust's solution doesn't work. At all. Killed off Windows 98 machines, needed a permanent TCP/IP connection when I looked at it, didn't run on Win2k and don't even think about Mac versions.
Real's protection code is floating around on the net somewhere.
MS stuff is easy to implement, but using Version 7 licenses, which are more secure, means ruling out playback on the Mac. Also due to weirdness in Mozilla's DOM support, license predelivery (pushing a license from a web page, not when the file is played) doesn't work. Works under IE, and Netscape 4.
Intertrust's lawsuit is a last ditch attempt of a dying company whose technolody no-one uses.
1) Nobody has technical knowledge on how to implement it
I'm going to hell for this, but I for one have developed web sites for the distribution of DRM packaged WMA files. And it's not difficuly.
OK then here it is, or at least the one I have. Excuse the fucked formatting, apparently the lameness filter objected to some of the HTML.
Now, where's that clause? Well shit, it's not there. Surprise.

The only real solution is a new protocol which requires you to login with a password in order to send mail. That's going to be hard to force the entire Internet to implement.
New? What's wrong with SMTP Auth? That's hardly new. Also you're a little inaccurate. Blocking relaying via IP address only stops users outside the network SENDING email via your servers. You can still pick email up.

Actually it doesn't. I would assume because the image server isn't writting cookies.
There are "full" fold out keypads for the iPaqs that plug into the sync slot at the bottom.
If you use connection strings (best way, DSNs involve a registry hit when read) it should look like
Provider=SQLOLEDB;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=database name;Data Source=server
Use IPSEC's port filtering to block 1433 connections if you can't afford, or don't trust your firewall.
SQL 2k does force you to click a checkbox if you want to leave sa's password blank, and SQL 7 has a nice explanation of why it's bad.
MSDE defaults to named pipes, as does SQL in general *spit* You still have to specifically tell it to listen on TCP/IP. Oh and you get an icon in your system tray, so you do kind of know it's there
Perhaps, but what if I want to view AOL content without having AOL installed? Same tatics? I think so.
huh, I submit a story, it gets published, but not on the front page!
It's a conspiracy! I blame the DCMA!
1) Nobody has technical knowledge on how to implement it I'm going to hell for this, but I for one have developed web sites for the distribution of DRM packaged WMA files. And it's not difficuly.
I encoutered the same problem. it's the font tags that slashcode barfs on.
That clause isn't even in my EULA. It does however talk about not using the clip art to make anything obscene. Spoilsports.
OK then here it is, or at least the one I have. Excuse the fucked formatting, apparently the lameness filter objected to some of the HTML.
Now, where's that clause? Well shit, it's not there. Surprise.

Untrue, certainly under Win2k. Around 95% of hotfixes have had an uninstall.
It uses a table, so the formatting on this will be way off
