I'm pretty sure I've had a few viruses, but I've yet to have any anti-virus software detect any, at least on any of my home computers. Anti-virus companies are however, very good at detecting money and eliminating it from people's bank accounts.

>>IE3 was the worst piece of software I have seen. EVER!
The versions of IE before IE3 were far, far, worse...
And that was all that were pre-installed on my old Windows 95 computer...
And everytime I had to reformat and reinstall it, which was practically every other week, www.netscape.com would not display so I could get a better browser...it would tell me I needed a browser that needed frames or javascript or something other than MSIE 1.0...but microsoft.com displayed...not anywhere near fine...but well enough to download IE3, and later IE4...and that even made Windows better, it made it so you could right click on the start menu, among other things...so I had to download IE3 in order to get Netscape 3.x, or later 4.x, which wasn't even all that great...
But had www.netscape.com allowed MSIE 1.0(or whatever the OEM version of Windows 95 shipped with, the one with the BIG Windows logo and the blue sky throbber, and it sure wasn't 3.0) to at least get to a download link...they probably would have never lost the browser war to begin with...yet no one ever mentions that...
There are a lot of places where I currently only get an analog signal. Does this mean that mean that I just won't be able to use my cell phone at all in these areas? I'm not talking rural areas, there are several major metropolitan areas where all I get is analog. I use Alltel, but I think I've been using someone else's network in these places.
I recall playing several really fun text adventure games when it was my turn to use one of the two computers in the whole school. There was one that went something like, you are in the woods and low on food, would you like to hunt? What would you like to hunt for, deer, or foxes? Oh, you didn't find any deer. You have Persished. Game Over. Anyone else remember this game, or know what it was called?
That there is not any discussion of how fun a job policing porn would be? I guess admitting that would ensure I don't get the job...oh no, I meant, that would be entirely detestable, but someone's got to do it right?
The vast majority of actual content is text based. Broadband does not help significantly in delivering this. Is Slashdot significantly faster on broadband, especially once the images are cached? I think not. I've used broadband, always on someone else's bill, it don't seem any better than dialup for what I normally use the internet for. I'm sure for certain things, like gaming it might be nice, though if Diablo II can work perfectly over dialup, I don't see why other games couldn't, although most don't, though that is bad programming, plain and simple.
All it really needs to do is really keep track of what programs are running and tell the user about it. I only ever want my OS, browser, and office applications running, Why can't it just tell me if there is something foreign running and never let anything ever change my OS, browser, or office application? Half the problem is OS's have gotten far too complicated...perhaps it's time for OS's to go back to using ROM memory, at least then they couldn't be altered to do stuff the user doesn't want them to do.
The 1950's, still before the Civil Rights Movement, would probably be a more likely GTA game however if for no other reason than that it would have cooler cars to steal.
My point was that for many beginning programmers, C++ was easier for them to learn because they don't have to learn the differences all at once, unlike in Java. In C++, they can write quite a lot of semi-useful programs just by typing everything within int main(){}, and then learn the rest later once they are comfortable with that.
While Java made it easier in some ways like not needing to do pointer arithmetic, it also made it much more difficult in other ways for beginners. You have to learn all about complicated abstract concepts like object oriented programming just to make even a hello world program. Or a beginner's program that does simple math.
I know quite a number of beginning programmers that really don't get the whole object vs. class vs. method thing.
...is that 20 years from now everyone will probably still be using either Windows or Linux/UNIX. Although Linux is debatably better than Windows, it still sucks. As does every OS out there. They are all too hard to use, crash a lot, and are overly complicated. We've been at a complete standstill in OS development since the 80's. Why doesn't anyone here come out with something new instead of trying to push Linux on people that don't want it. The reason people haven't switched to Linux is that both Linux and Windows suck.
Isn't complying with the Chinese law on some levels partially uncensoring the internet to some degree? If a company goes along with China, at least more of the internet is available to the Chinese public, otherwise, less of it is available.
Why wouldn't you be allowed to do this? Companys often mention other companies names without their permission. Or did Miller actually get Budweiser's permission to say Bud Light and use their trademarks in their recent ad campaign?
I still think a keyboard with the letters arranged in Alpabetical order would be a big hit. It might be even more inefficient than QWERTY or Dvorak, but I bet people who never used a computer before would much prefer it. I certainly would have. Why doesn't anyone make it?
Well, as long as it had a third party browser, maybe IE could be downloaded and added back in, I'm sure they'd have a way to do this. Though, if it came with no browser whatsover, it would be an incredible pain in the neck to get one on there, like an old Windows 95 box with Internet Explorer 2 only. Won't even display microsoft.com or netscape.com...I once had to resort to using an AOL CD after a reformat...icky...I'm sure that's what a lot of people would do too if they got an IE-less XP.
You can have beer and cigarette ashess all over them and they still play. CD's one little scatch and it is a coaster...what a hump of junk...where is the next generation cassete anyway, maybet then I'll buy something...until then...mp3 it is...
When I was like 6 or so my mom was making Sheppard's pie while using the first calculator I'd ever seen with a Pi Key...Wow! Two new definitions of pi(e) at once...OK...it was a lot funnier then but I was like 6 or 7...

Is so you can talk about Windows without accidentally referring to features from the outdated 5 years+ old XP that were removed in Vista...

Why not make your own licence based on what you want to accomplish? Using someone elses licence is just laziness...

But what if it is a NASCAR Ford Taurus with a NASCAR driver and the Ferrari is driven by some ordinary guy that can't drive it...
Possible origin of similar name
Well, technically, that's not entirely true, they do share some of the same syntax as programming languages, do they not?

Some older cars were equipped with only an AM radio long after it ceased being popular.

I never quite understood why Microsoft stopped making Photodraw. It was better than a lot of other similar programs in many ways.

Wo! Four years ago Windows XP was brand new...
Wow...isn't it a good thing they went against the Windows 2001 idea someone suggested...
