According to some friends in the gaming industry the companies are going to stop developing PC games as they are cracked and distributed faster than you can buy them in the shops.
As an example they found out that 85 % of the Crysis online gamers used pirate copies.
If you consider the huge efforts that are needed to create a AAA-title and the risk of being copied the PC games will diminuish.
I remember a "sexy" chatterbot in Germany, called red Lola ("die rote Lola").
As the conversation focus was rather narrow (well, flirting and more serious stuff) the lady was rather amusing. Based on the human's questions the fotos were replaced in order to show her current mood.
She even managed to curse and to lead the conversation much better than in an "Eliza" like manner.
Apart from that I still wonder when scientists and technicians realise that avatar and chatterbot communication is doomed to fail. There are about 8 billion communication experts on earth with approximately 50.000 years of evolutionary development of different languages.
The computer linguists did not manage yet to cover a rather simple language like English (well, the grammar of Sanskrit would be easier) let alone more complex languages (Hungarian, German, French...).
And even if they would manage to cover grammar and syntax the inherent semantic is still unsolved. I remember Doug Lenats ambitious Cyc-Project where they tried to model the knowledge of the Encyclopedia Britannica in a way that a computer could use this knowledge for decision making, analysis and act as basis for communication. To my knowledge the outcome was not that bad but I don't see a "killer application" yet.
A small hit for a tech geek, a giant tip for this tech week.
I am eagerly waiting for the next (most probably not yet filed for patent) innovation: Voice over IP, based on tcp and transmitted with the help of an acoustics coupler.
If that works, a copperplate engraving of digital images seems useful as well.
Hi. My kids (age 4 1/2 and 7) use both operating systems: Windows2000 for CD-Games and Debian Linux for everything else.
They even enjoy the simple linux-Games (cuyo, frozen bubbles) mores as they can play against each other.
I tried to put up Wine, Crossover in order to switch completely to Linux - alas it is not worth the hassle. Anyway they are only allowed to play 1 hour every second day and they have to choose first what they want to do.
Great games they like: The "putt-putt"(?) series from Infogrames, www.bobthebuilder.com, www.blindekuh.de and mostly german game sites.
Your comment is an insult and doesn't even touch the matter. I don't know where you come from. Perhaps from imperialistic America whith death penalty or imperialistic UK who invented the concentration camps in South Africa. I don't think that there exist many countries with a clean record. As well as we should remind our history there is the fact that even my father was too young for the 3d Reich.
Well, here in Austria each medicine can take parts of a dead body without prior agreement of the person or his relatives.
Through this practice we have one of the best transplantation processes in the world - no delay, no organ dealing.
On the other hand genetical engineering is forbidden.

Our company (Germany location) wanted to outsource some SAP programming and the Indian programmers demanded an exaggerating 80,- ($ 98,-) per hour.
This rises my hope that the outsourcing hype is going to slow down fast.

I found a cool site which found some nice gifts for my girlfriend. Beware, it's German.
