    Since the introduction of security codes, car stereo theft isn't as much of a problem as it used to be.

    Without the security codes, stolen car stereos are paperweights.

    I already know at least two people who have in-dash navigation systems, yet use their smartphone or a standalone GPS because either the automaker stopped providing map updates, or wants to charge an exhorbitant amount of money for them (as in, SEVERAL TIMES that of a stand-alone GPS or even a smart phone!)

    Someone needs to come up with a docking module on the dash, to which you can dock a standard device that can be upgraded over the years. Kind of like the old "DIN" standard for car stereos, but more flat, intended for touch screen devices. Then when your in-dash system gets outdated you can upgrade it.

    Now that we have the tech for it, lights should probably have a countdown timer for the last ten seconds that is visible to traffic.

    10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...*yellow comes on*...2...1... *RED*

    This will also allow drivers who are further away a chance to let up on the gas (it's going to turn red, might as well coast to it).

    This is already effectively in place in some intersections, due to the crosswalk lights that have countdowns, but it's not universal, and the crosswalk countdown doesn't always indicate the behavior of the light for traffic.

    Redundant ground pins (and power pins) also exist to spread the load out, as when you're talking 50-100W at the low voltages CPUs use, that's a lot of amps you have to deliver.

    Heck, the redundant ground pins might even be providing a ground rail to different parts of the chip, though I imagine they are still all tied together at some point.

    Isn't the whole POINT of LGA to manufacture a chip that can EITHER be used in a socket, or soldered to the motherboard?

    Unless they plan on manufacturing chips incapable of being used in sockets (due to physical shape, etc.) I don't see why this is even an issue? Manufacturers who want to SMT the chip can do so right now without any change whatsoever.

    I suspect this is FUD.

    Hahaha, funny I know, but Sprint LTE is showing up in Miami, FL now. It's been in the Chicago area for a while. They ARE progressing! And may soon be the best option.

    And I realize its not easy. Parenting is hard. If you're not up for it, don't have kids.

    This is an adult product. It says it on the box. It shouldn't be required to meet child toy standards.

    Why should the patient have to pay 200 times as much money to access records when the difficulty isn't his fault?

    The company that was incompetent and stored things in an inefficient manner should cover the cost. Charging this incompetence to the patient shouldn't be legal.

    Life is actually fairly normal in Manhattan north of 23rd Street, so I'm not surprised.

    In fact, lack of power is the only thing keeping the rest of Manhattan from normalizing; MTA even has the subways ready to go, they just need juice.

    Hopefully it'll all be fixed before I visit in a week!

    Chemistry class isn't just about chemistry. It also teaches critical thinking and problem solving skills. Having to balance chemical reactions, though it may be useless to 95% of people in the real world, is one example of a skill that improves one's thinking ability when they learn it.

    I also feel it's essential for people to know the basics on how the world works. High school chemistry isn't exactly hard.

    In some cases, nothing can be done about traffic congestion. For example, New York City is so incredibly dense that even with the near-complete grid system they have in Manhattan, traffic congestion still happens. There's really nothing you can do about it other than get cars off the road by incentivizing people to use other forms of transit such as cycling or the subway.

    Yeah I was about to say. I live in Miami, FL. The only way cotton would kill me is in the area of fashion sense, since I tend to wear lower quality clothes when cycling. (I don't really care about looking good and would rather not wear out my nicer stuff!)

    Wouldn't a simpler solution just be to allow the end-user to sign his bootloader?

    Once the boot loader is signed, it's trusted until the next time the system is reinstalled.

    The idea is, if something replaces the bootloader, it needs to be re-signed by the user. The process of signing could be convoluted and long enough to keep a user from just blindly clicking "sign" (require special boot media, or a jumper to be set on the motherboard).

    This will provide all the security benefits of UEFI secure boot, while retaining the user's control of the system.

    Count me in as having done this. TigerDirect had a 3TB external drive for $40 less than the internals! It was an absolute no-brainer to buy it and decase it. Sure, there's no warranty, but it's worth the risk to save $40 since hard drives rarely fail and when they do it's usually after a few years when you should be retiring them anyway.

    The case was a really shitty USB-only case, too, which was such a data bottleneck on the internal SATA drive that it would have been a colossal pain to use it as an external.

    I'm guessing the external drives are sourced through different channels that for some reason weren't affected as much as the internal drives? Otherwise it doesn't make sense that the external would be so much cheaper when you're buying "more stuff".

    But what the hell? Why should we be telling people what they can do in their own lives outside working hours? Especially when such activities are legal?

    What's next? NO ALCOHOL USE EITHER! Can't even go out to the bar with friends on a weekend because you might lose your job?

    Riding a motorcycle is risky to your health as well. CAN'T DO THAT EITHER.

    This is one HELL of a slippery slope and we should all be greatly concerned about it.

    Ya'll realize the iPhones, Galaxys, HTCs, etc. are probably not only made in the same country, but in the same building, right?

    Anyone else think that we (the US) should follow Brazil's example?

    I mean, there it is, a perfect example of regulation bringing manufacturing jobs back to a country. We could certainly use that right now.
