Take off the tinfoil hat my friend. I don't know if you've been exposed to much government, but let me tell you, they don't have the desire, motivation, or courage to be part of any grand design like that. Government workers are, by and large, very poor, unmotivated, and won't do anything to jepoardize their meager existence. Grand designs like these are right the hell out.
Ok, so finding some evidence of "grand design" effectively moots your point on this one.

And what you're talking about implies generations of development.
Ok. Got a little creative with some numbers you can't possible produce anything to back up. Lets see what I can produce other than the obvious trend for a whole bunch of presidents coming from the same families that have had a ton of money since the beginning of this USA experiment:
The best part of all this is that my "this makes sense" post was kinda sort supposed to be taken as a joke. Shameless flamebait to stir up the nuts. It's not the how the 1 percenters got there, it's how they keep their gains whether they be ill gotten or righteous. There is a moral issue because THEY make it a moral game by taking the moral highground when attempts are made to call bullshit on their practices. The 99 percent don't owe anything to anybody because they are wage slaves at this point. I wonder how much the American Indian feels they owe the 1 percent, or how many of those original native Americans comprise that one percent. Your post reeks of the kind of mentality the british had for marching right on in and ruining perfectly fine societies. They actually believed they were doing the people they slaughtered, jailed, and diseased a favor by giving them the 'british system of order', saving them from their perceived savagery. It's a country. It's a people. It's supposed to be about an idea called America. America isn't SUPPOSED to be run like a company like you seem to suggest. I doubt the original founding fathers envisioned a future where marketers compete to brainwash people through all forms of media in order to peddle worthless products in the name of progress. Communism was highly flawed. Capitalism looks awesome on paper, but is very flawed. We still have a system in place that rewards the worse kind of human behavior, and encourages outright selfishness in spite of progress. Greed. The manufacturing of devils and scapegoats to justify the wants of the higher authority (School of the Americas). Keep the people fat dumb and happy, keep churning out "respectable" people from "respectable" families that still have those horrid 1950's values that the Govt seems to love so much. Keep "people like us" behind the wheel. Keep our stranglehold on things. My only hope is that 6 or 7 generations down the line, after all the babyboomers have finally died, that all that 1950's mentality will finally go away like it should have decades ago and the regime pulling the strings doesn't fuck things up as badly as they have.
In an economy where being able to constantly pull the wool over the eyes of the 99 percent of the populace that's doing all the work for the 1 percent that own everything, it's a liability to have smart folk around. If they can outsource as many of the smart people (more likely to question authority) or at least crush the spirits of the smart people that are here by giving their jobs away, there will be a higher contingent of the nascar loving, reality tv watching, wrestling, Jerry Springer fans that we need in this society to watch the the commercials and buy the crap necessary to fuel our economic model.

But seriously, It's a little bit of time up front, whole heck of a lot less time and problems later. I think it took me about 25 seconds of actual work getting an epson stylus c42ux working on Gentoo recently. I had to install cups "emerge cups" and foomatic "emerge foomatic". It pretty much did the rest. I filled in a few blanks and pow, printer working. I had to do an "emerge gtkam" to get my powershot s200 working. As far as games, I have quake 1,2,3 UT, ut2003, wolfenstein, and many other working just fine one click away in blackbox. My Geforce3 ti500 is getting around 176 frames per sec at 1280 by 1024 with all the goodies cranked up the whole way in quake3 timedemo four. I'm using an Athlon XP 2100+ with no issues. I haven't really found anything that I want to do that I can't do. Everything just works, and works better than any alternative. Little bit of time up front, less hassel and BS later on. Oh, and it's free.

There was a story on/. a while ago about the PKI system. It's a computerized diagnosis system that most doctors are reluctant to use because it does a large part of their job. They absolutely refuse to admit that the PKI system can diagnose a patient better than they can, or even be considered a useful tool. I can draw parallels with certain UNIX Guru's I've had the displeasure of working with that absolutely refuse to embrace new technology, then go ahead and blow deadlines because they "Know the right way to do something, and that's their way". Figure out a way to force medical professionals to embrace life saving technology like the PKI, make the use of a computer a mandatory skill for the degree program, and you might see a lessening of misdiagnosis.
It's more about playing region locked games, being able to install linux, and having the right to do with your hardware what you want because you PAID for it. By all means, please perpetuate the FUD though. Your corporate masters love it.
It's a proven fact that more people hack Windows than Linux. I think they'd open the competition up to more people if they use the number one operating system for the target. There is an enormous pool of MCSE's nationwide they could draw upon to defend the windows server. I personally think that would be a lot more fun to watch. *cough* *cough*:)
I hate to say I got sick of waiting and installed Gentoo. I'm also sad to say that I'm enjoying the better compatibility with my kt333 chipset, sound, network, etc. I'm also enjoying the serious stability and performance increases with the linux nVidia drives for my ti500. It's also just a workstation/gaming platform. All the machines I've done on contract recently have been FreeBSD. At some point in the future if I can get AGP 4x with all the goodies like page-flipping and whatnot to work with the nVidia drivers for FreeBSD, and the issues with the kt333 chipset are resolved, and I can pry myself away from UT2003 and inferno long enough to do it, I'll go back to FreeBSD on my workstation.:)

Sure, it's cool that they're getting drivers out the door, especially with nVIDIA's history of buggy drivers.
nVidia doesn't have a history of buggy drivers. You are thinking of ATI.
But "almost as fast as Windows" isn't going to cut it
Actually, it's a crap shoot. Some things are faster on windows (d3d stuff) and most opengl stuff is slightly faster on linux/freebsd. granted we are talking about 1-3 percent differences here.
We Linux users are used to, and demand, superior software. Mozilla, Nautilus, XMMS, the GIMP, EMACS...these applications blow away anything available for Windows. 95-99% of Windows speed is "too little, too late."
Here is where the obvious troll is. Who actually bought this crap?
Going on SNL is a great way to make the people think you are "hip" and "cool" and not as bad as everybody thought you were. It totally worked for Al Gore. AOL should hire Al Gore's agent.

sleep at all if you are worried some kid you hardly
know is going to die on you? We'd take turns watching
him sleep. I can remember him turning blue a few times
because someone dozed off that was watching him.
Sometimes we'd all stay up together bullshitting
about life and watch him. We started to resent the
fact that we had such a huge responsibility thrust
on us just to hang out with some kid we didn't
even like that much. It didn't help that his
attitude was along the lines of "Oh well, if I
die I die" and we were like "We are saving your

showing up one day and I made the joke that he
probably died. There was one of those 5 second

did find out what happened to him.

1280 by 1024 with all the goodies cranked up the
whole way in quake3 timedemo four. I'm using an
Athlon XP 2100+ with no issues. I haven't really
found anything that I want to do that I can't do.
Everything just works, and works better than any
alternative. Little bit of time up front, less
hassel and BS later on. Oh, and it's free.
There was a story on /. a while ago about the
PKI system. It's a computerized diagnosis system
that most doctors are reluctant to use because
it does a large part of their job. They absolutely
refuse to admit that the PKI system can diagnose
a patient better than they can, or even be
considered a useful tool. I can draw parallels with
certain UNIX Guru's I've had the displeasure of
working with that absolutely refuse to embrace new
technology, then go ahead and blow deadlines because
they "Know the right way to do something, and that's
their way". Figure out a way to force medical
professionals to embrace life saving technology
like the PKI, make the use of a computer a
mandatory skill for the degree program, and you
might see a lessening of misdiagnosis.
Didn't read the article did ya? :)
It's not about a single thing you are talking
about.
It's more about playing region locked games, being
able to install linux, and having the right to do
with your hardware what you want because you PAID
for it. By all means, please perpetuate the FUD
though. Your corporate masters love it.
Perhaps my scarcasm was lost on just you.
It's a proven fact that more people hack Windows :)
than Linux. I think they'd open the competition up
to more people if they use the number one operating
system for the target. There is an enormous pool of
MCSE's nationwide they could draw upon to defend the
windows server. I personally think that would be a
lot more fun to watch. *cough* *cough*
I hate to say I got sick of waiting and installed :)
Gentoo. I'm also sad to say that I'm enjoying the
better compatibility with my kt333 chipset, sound,
network, etc. I'm also enjoying the serious
stability and performance increases with the linux
nVidia drives for my ti500. It's also just a
workstation/gaming platform. All the machines I've
done on contract recently have been FreeBSD. At
some point in the future if I can get AGP 4x with
all the goodies like page-flipping and whatnot to
work with the nVidia drivers for FreeBSD, and the
issues with the kt333 chipset are resolved, and
I can pry myself away from UT2003 and inferno
long enough to do it, I'll go back to FreeBSD on
my workstation.

It's obvious they bought the acorn they built the
platform out of at home depot.
Sure, it's cool that they're getting drivers out the door, especially with nVIDIA's history of buggy drivers.
nVidia doesn't have a history of buggy drivers. You
are thinking of ATI.
But "almost as fast as Windows" isn't going to cut it
Actually, it's a crap shoot. Some things are faster
on windows (d3d stuff) and most opengl stuff is
slightly faster on linux/freebsd. granted we are
talking about 1-3 percent differences here.
We Linux users are used to, and demand, superior software. Mozilla, Nautilus, XMMS, the GIMP, EMACS...these applications blow away anything available for Windows. 95-99% of Windows speed is "too little, too late."
Here is where the obvious troll is. Who actually
bought this crap?
Going on SNL is a great way to make the people
think you are "hip" and "cool" and not as bad
as everybody thought you were. It totally worked
for Al Gore. AOL should hire Al Gore's agent.
