    and the FIRST ONE talking about anyone dieing in
    their sleep, and it's a true story. Excuse the fuck
    out of me for sharing a life experience that I
    thought was relevant.

    There used to be this kid, can't remember his name,
    that hung out with me and my friends when we were
    between the ages of ten to thirteen. He didn't go
    to our school, but he was a friend of another kid
    that was a neighbor of a friend or something.
    I think that made sense. Either way, he would
    QUIT BREATHING COMPLETELY when he slept and you'd
    have to wake him up or he'd DIE. I can remember his
    mom explaining that it was some sort of condition
    and we'd have to be careful to watch him when he slept
    over. Needless to say, how the fuck are you going to
    sleep at all if you are worried some kid you hardly
    know is going to die on you? We'd take turns watching
    him sleep. I can remember him turning blue a few times
    because someone dozed off that was watching him.
    Sometimes we'd all stay up together bullshitting
    about life and watch him. We started to resent the
    fact that we had such a huge responsibility thrust
    on us just to hang out with some kid we didn't
    even like that much. It didn't help that his
    attitude was along the lines of "Oh well, if I
    die I die" and we were like "We are saving your
    life asshole!". I can remember when he just quit
    showing up one day and I made the joke that he
    probably died. There was one of those 5 second
    pauses then everybody busted up laughing because
    when you are young, cruel can be funny. We never
    did find out what happened to him.

    Take off the tinfoil hat my friend. I don't know if you've been exposed to much government, but let me tell you, they don't have the desire, motivation, or courage to be part of any grand design like that. Government workers are, by and large, very poor, unmotivated, and won't do anything to jepoardize their meager existence. Grand designs like these are right the hell out.

    Ok. Got a little creative with some numbers you
    can't possible produce anything to back up. Lets
    see what I can produce other than the obvious
    trend for a whole bunch of presidents coming from
    the same families that have had a ton of money
    since the beginning of this USA experiment:

    The best part of all this is that my "this makes
    sense" post was kinda sort supposed to be taken
    as a joke. Shameless flamebait to stir up the
    nuts. I never assumed I'd hook someone from the
    other extreme. I seriously don't understand you
    guys. Is it a "white guilt"? I mean, I made a
    bundle the past 15 years. That doesn't change the
    fact that I know things are heavily skewed in
    favor of "pretty white people". Hell, I've counted
    on it a number of times when negotiating with
    venture capitalists. But I mean, how many evil
    dictators that just happened to be funded/trained/
    put in power by the USA do we have to pick a
    fight with in an election year to clue you in?
    Does another president have to be publicly
    executed to raise your suspicions that there just
    might be things going on that nobody in their
    right mind would want to know about?
    As for my URL, why not try actually going to it
    and see what it is. Understanding it's more in
    character for you to exert all your energies into
    crafting a high quality "flame" instead of
    actually taking the time to know what you are
    talking about. :) As an AC said already, you
    should feel pretty stupid.

    It's not the how the 1 percenters got there, it's
    how they keep their gains whether they be ill gotten
    or righteous. There is a moral issue because THEY
    make it a moral game by taking the moral highground
    when attempts are made to call bullshit on their
    practices. The 99 percent don't owe anything to
    anybody because they are wage slaves at this point.
    I wonder how much the American Indian feels they
    owe the 1 percent, or how many of those original
    native Americans comprise that one percent. Your
    post reeks of the kind of mentality the british
    had for marching right on in and ruining perfectly
    fine societies. They actually believed they were
    doing the people they slaughtered, jailed, and
    diseased a favor by giving them the 'british
    system of order', saving them from their perceived
    savagery. It's a country. It's a people. It's
    supposed to be about an idea called America.
    America isn't SUPPOSED to be run like a company
    like you seem to suggest. I doubt the original
    founding fathers envisioned a future where
    marketers compete to brainwash people through all
    forms of media in order to peddle worthless
    products in the name of progress. Communism was
    highly flawed. Capitalism looks awesome on paper,
    but is very flawed. We still have a system in
    place that rewards the worse kind of human
    behavior, and encourages outright selfishness
    in spite of progress. Greed. The manufacturing
    of devils and scapegoats to justify the wants
    of the higher authority (School of the Americas).
    Keep the people fat dumb and happy, keep churning
    out "respectable" people from "respectable"
    families that still have those horrid 1950's values
    that the Govt seems to love so much. Keep "people
    like us" behind the wheel. Keep our stranglehold
    on things. My only hope is that 6 or 7 generations
    down the line, after all the babyboomers have
    finally died, that all that 1950's mentality will
    finally go away like it should have decades ago
    and the regime pulling the strings doesn't fuck
    things up as badly as they have.

    In an economy where being able to constantly pull
    the wool over the eyes of the 99 percent of the
    populace that's doing all the work for the 1 percent
    that own everything, it's a liability to have
    smart folk around. If they can outsource as many of
    the smart people (more likely to question authority)
    or at least crush the spirits of the smart people
    that are here by giving their jobs away, there will
    be a higher contingent of the nascar loving,
    reality tv watching, wrestling, Jerry Springer fans
    that we need in this society to watch the
    the commercials and buy the crap necessary to
    fuel our economic model.

    Actually, the BBB exists for the "Business" and not
    the consumer. I swear their role is specifically to
    "make the annoying consumer shut the fuck up and
    take some sort of pitiance and go away" instead of
    actual problem resolving. They tend to pretend they
    are some sort of government sanctioned agency,
    which they ARE NOT, instead of the private company
    they are. Your absolute best course of action is:

    #1 check all company's out at www.resellerrating.com
    before making a purchase. And a note: just because
    they have a high rating doesn't mean you shouldn't
    read the comments posted by prior customers, and
    you shouldn't pay special attention to how good
    they are at refunds/replacements. A lot of these
    fly-by-night companys have high ratings, but
    extremely low ratings for warrantee service. As
    long as what you get from them works, great. But
    you can be SOL if you get sent something broken.

    #2 If you do get screwed, use google to find out
    what state the company does business in, and
    contact that states ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE for
    consumer affairs. Almost all states have an online
    complaint filing system. The good thing about
    going through the AG is that your complaint will
    stay on file forever. The next person that files
    a complaint will add to the pile, and they'll
    notice. I've had 4 experiences recently with the
    AG's consumer affairs offices in NJ, NY, CA, and
    TX, and they ALL got me my refund/replacements
    within a month. They all have an online fraud
    complaint filing system. Hope this helps.

    Is to make sure to be extra abusive to your
    batteries so they die well in advance of the
    seemingly standard 1 year warrantee. That way
    you get a fresh battery before the warrantee
    wears out.

    I drink about 3 large glasses of iced tea an hour.
    That means I have to get up 4 times an hour. 3 times
    for refills, and once to P. That and I'm so hyped on
    caffiene I'm constantly tapping my feet while
    talking to myself and the other deathmatch players
    in (place any first person shooter that works
    on linux here) while in absolute heaven on my caffiene
    high. Lately it's been the navy seals covert
    operations mod for quake3. Damn slick.

    So I read the story and went to GIANT and bought a
    pack. I'm smoking one right now. It's kinda hard to
    describe what it's like, but I just ordered a carton
    of them. I bought the Quest3, or "Nicotene Free"
    variety. It's about as light as a marlboro
    ultralight, but the flavor is, IMHO, better. There
    is something missing. Cigarettes usually have a
    "bite" to them. Like a sharp edge that's part of
    the flavor. It's completely gone. It actually
    (IMHO again) makes them taste better. The problem
    is that collective bite is what keeps me from
    picking up another smoke in 10 minutes. I can see
    smoking a lot more of these than the ultralights
    I normally smoke. But if after a few weeks I'm
    over the nicotene addiction, it will be worth it.
    I'm very impressed with this product.

    On a side note, Anheuser-Busch is having a
    beer promotion right now for beer
    distributors. They are going to be the exclusive
    importers for a line of beers from an italian
    company called "libero". If you fill in the blanks
    at the page below, you can "pretend" to be an
    interested distributor and score 5 cases of this
    stuff. I hope it doesn't suck. The page is in
    italian, but it's not hard to understand. YMMV.

    Pull your hair out because your ATI drivers for
    windows are crap, and there is NOTHING you can do
    to fix that! There is no enormous group of
    developers donating free time to fix it immediately!

    Install a new camera without restarting 6 times to find the right driver!

    Deal with problems stemming from accidentally
    clicking "YES" to remove an older working version
    of a file when you install some new software and
    end up breaking 5 other pieces of software!

    you can actually install programs without scheduling the time to do so!

    Sit for hours waiting for tech support that you
    have to pay for if something does break! Get
    the "It's not us, it's the vendor" run around
    and end up calling all over the place all day
    running up your long distance bill!

    Oh, and..

    Sit and cry because a word macro virus ate your
    computer! Everything is gone! WOW what a product!

    But seriously,
    It's a little bit of time up front, whole heck of
    a lot less time and problems later. I think it
    took me about 25 seconds of actual work getting
    an epson stylus c42ux working on Gentoo recently.
    I had to install cups "emerge cups" and foomatic
    "emerge foomatic". It pretty much did the rest.
    I filled in a few blanks and pow, printer working.
    I had to do an "emerge gtkam" to get my powershot
    s200 working. As far as games, I have quake 1,2,3
    UT, ut2003, wolfenstein, and many other working
    just fine one click away in blackbox. My Geforce3
    ti500 is getting around 176 frames per sec at
    1280 by 1024 with all the goodies cranked up the
    whole way in quake3 timedemo four. I'm using an
    Athlon XP 2100+ with no issues. I haven't really
    found anything that I want to do that I can't do.
    Everything just works, and works better than any
    alternative. Little bit of time up front, less
    hassel and BS later on. Oh, and it's free.

    There was a story on /. a while ago about the
    PKI system. It's a computerized diagnosis system
    that most doctors are reluctant to use because
    it does a large part of their job. They absolutely
    refuse to admit that the PKI system can diagnose
    a patient better than they can, or even be
    considered a useful tool. I can draw parallels with
    certain UNIX Guru's I've had the displeasure of
    working with that absolutely refuse to embrace new
    technology, then go ahead and blow deadlines because
    they "Know the right way to do something, and that's
    their way". Figure out a way to force medical
    professionals to embrace life saving technology
    like the PKI, make the use of a computer a
    mandatory skill for the degree program, and you
    might see a lessening of misdiagnosis.

    with your hardware what you want because you PAID

    It's a proven fact that more people hack Windows
    than Linux. I think they'd open the competition up
    to more people if they use the number one operating
    system for the target. There is an enormous pool of
    MCSE's nationwide they could draw upon to defend the
    windows server. I personally think that would be a
    lot more fun to watch. *cough* *cough* :)

    I hate to say I got sick of waiting and installed
    Gentoo. I'm also sad to say that I'm enjoying the
    better compatibility with my kt333 chipset, sound,
    network, etc. I'm also enjoying the serious
    stability and performance increases with the linux
    nVidia drives for my ti500. It's also just a
    workstation/gaming platform. All the machines I've
    done on contract recently have been FreeBSD. At
    some point in the future if I can get AGP 4x with
    all the goodies like page-flipping and whatnot to
    work with the nVidia drivers for FreeBSD, and the
    issues with the kt333 chipset are resolved, and
    I can pry myself away from UT2003 and inferno
    long enough to do it, I'll go back to FreeBSD on
    my workstation. :)

    Sure, it's cool that they're getting drivers out the door, especially with nVIDIA's history of buggy drivers.

    nVidia doesn't have a history of buggy drivers. You
    are thinking of ATI.

    But "almost as fast as Windows" isn't going to cut it

    Actually, it's a crap shoot. Some things are faster
    on windows (d3d stuff) and most opengl stuff is
    slightly faster on linux/freebsd. granted we are
    talking about 1-3 percent differences here.

    We Linux users are used to, and demand, superior software. Mozilla, Nautilus, XMMS, the GIMP, EMACS...these applications blow away anything available for Windows. 95-99% of Windows speed is "too little, too late."

    Here is where the obvious troll is. Who actually
    bought this crap?
