I'm inclined to believe that an impatient viewer got pissed off because they didn't want to wait til January to see new episodes, and cooked this up. I'm inclined to think that the reason the last season has been so "patchy" has been because the aussie actors have gotten much attention from their work and are doing tons of side projects. Other than the show getting a little "ra ra ben browder", it's been pretty good. I didn't like the fact they waited until the last episode to close up the plot hole with Moya getting sucked away by a wormhole, but I still love and watch the show for the acting and creativity. My guess is this isn't a deliberate thing done by SciFi, or the truth, but a desparate fan trying to light a fire under SciFi's ass.
This is obviously part of the groundwork to get the public behind palladium. Microsoft has consistently proven itself to be the masters at porting govermental public opinion swaying tactics for their needs. It's almost admirable. Following tradition, they'll produce stats and figures and submit them as "proof", and the majority of America will say "wow, we need to do this". Or, as demonstrated recently, they'll hint at the existence of proof for their "cause" and that alone will swing a majority of people to their side and give them time to fabricate it, or draw attention away from producing it. Microsoft will get palladium, and Dubya will get the war he wants that nobody a few weeks ago wanted, but now seem too want since they keep waving the flag hard enough and hinting at "new evidence" that probably doesn't exist as of yet.
Step 1: Convince everyone that your selfish agenda is in their best interests in any way you can.

Being manipulated this way is part of being an American. Microsoft is the most American company I know of.
That's a weak point. It still doesn't explain why BSD dominates this "table" and some other OS doesn't. Why isn't it dominated with Linux or some other OS that isn't being what you perceive as "rapidly developed". So Linux can't handle the stress of a non developed environment? You can FUD around with your philosophies on the psychology of sysadmins all you want, but this table shows something very clear. As much as your love your pet OS, BSD is the clear stability king.
You'll notice that 45 of those top 50 are BSD machines. Of those 45, 19 are FreeBSD boxes. You'll notice 1 Linux box. It's nice to see that leading industry sites like bongload.com and twobigirls.com have benefited so much from the stability of BSD.
What if you got a CF card with your new entertainment system. You get a weird hum from your speakers after setting everything up. You plug your cf card into your "handheld coupler engine" and start answering questions. Within 5 minutes you have a short list of possible fixes. You can download an updated image for the CF card, or you put in place a system that automates updates seemlessly. Or, you check your "handheld coupler engine" to see if the manufacturer, school, govt agency, restaurant, has included a coupler for their product, curriculum, policy, or bacon cheeseburger. Wait til the coupler can be accessed by thought. It's going to be an interesting future.
In corporate america, your definition of a psychopath is pretty much held up as the example to follow. They used to use war euphemisms in business, until that became unpopular. Now it's sports euphemisms. I think the idea being that games of sport are tactical and emotionless like war is supposed to be. To give you an idea where I'm coming from, I find it truly amazing that we've been wasting time on this system of chasing little green pieces of paper around the planet (blatant douglas plagerism) instead of working together to expand our understanding of that whole universe out there. It's sad that we have a system of reward based on material possession and creature comfort. The goal of which is have so many pieces of paper, you don't have to do anything, and you can control others. Surprisingly, more often than not it's those people that make decisions for all of us. Survive at all costs. It's a model mirrored in nature by lesser lifeforms. We should be better than that. Considering we are our own worst natural preditor, I'd rather have someone making decisions that is intelligent and sympathetic, rather than someone that is an expert survivalist and game fixer. I don't hate the player mind you, I hate the game. We should take these people out of power, and get them the help they need. And yes, I AM dreaming. But everyone that has bought into the system in place might be dreaming someone else's dream.
Before the earthlink "merger of equals", Mindspring had Harry. Harry absolutely rocked the abuse department. He worked together with the other admins (helped he was a Senior Admin in skill level) and they'd think up all kinds of interesting ways to "abuse" spammers. We'd catch them pretty fast if they were spamming from our network. One of my favorites was sending +++ATH0 in a formatted ping packet to their modem to disconnect them, sending thousands of spam messages back to their email client depending on what they used. Their port would be disconnected quickly. I think we had a 3 strikes and you are an ex-customer rule. Jan also rocked the news servers. I'm not sure how earthlink is handling things now post merger. I didn't hang around.:) At the time, were were number 2 in the world, and fighting spam very well. The "SPAMINATOR" product was very much loved by customers. I heard through the grapevine that it's basically a joke now, and doesn't work.
When I used to work at the better half of that company a long time ago before the lame name change *cough* we spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out who the traitor was inside selling lists of email addresses. We knew it was going on, but never caught the guy.
If idiotic pricks didn't try to fill email boxen up with ads for stupid crap. If morons didn't pay companies to do mass mailing for them. If total assholes didn't market and sell spamming software USING SPAM to complete idiots that don't know any better. If businesses in general actually adopted some written or unwritten rules of etiquette and and practice and focused more on making quality products people actually want, and less on marketing the living hell out of their poorly made crap, we would never have had to nickname unsolicited email after a grody methodone for steak. We'd also probably not have had our enrons, adelphias, worldcoms, etc. I'm dreaming of course.

We are nowhere near the top ten in education in the world. Ignorant people are easier to deceive. We have a President that tried very hard to bring back trickle down economics. We have a political system that is a charade comprised of two very powerful political parties that wow us with WWF style antics in the media. We have a media devoted to getting every last dollar from us. We have special interest groups spending insane amounts of money trying to get their opinions heard. We have justice that you have to pay for. Your freedom hinges on how good a lawyer you can afford. We have a populace that for the most part has been dulled into complacency by big macs, mustangs, girls gone wild, and mtv. We have 3 major media outlets. How hard is it to control 3 major media outlets? We have intelligence agencies spying on the populace. We have unfavorable political figures publicly executed on national television. We have a space program going nowhere. We have a whole universe we are ignoring so we can concentrate on the lifestyle we are fed by the 1 percent of the population with all the money and power. Those 1 percent of the population are ensured they'll keep both their money and power because of the laws that have been put in place to protect them. This, to me, is the definition of a virtual reality.

Good thing I've heard that one before and knew I'd have a better chance of seeing a stable microsoft OS in my lifetime. The worst part about this one is how things were handled. The long time employees were still talking about how the Rigas's would save the day even when word of their 3.6 billion dollar theft from company coffers hit the news. Most of them were completely convinced that everything would be alright. Given the scope of this disaster, ABS knew full well it was going to happen when they hired me, and outright lied to me about how stable the company was and where it was headed. They lied to at least 5 new people in the department I joined also. For those of you that don't know, Adelphia Corporate is located in Coudersport, PA. It's a quaint little northern Pennsylvania town about 30 miles from the NY border. Population 2500. About 400 houses, homes and small businesses. A McDonalds, A Subway, oh and a 9 billion dollar telecommunications company. It's also 45 miles from NOTHING AT ALL. The makings for a great Stephen King novel. Tons of people displaced by the tech decline risked everything to move to the middle of nowhere for half the pay. When the layoffs came, they got rid of all the new people. The idea being to try to save some face in the community by keeping the people that were born and raised in Coudersport. Some of the new folk that were laid off had bought houses there. My bad habit of eavesdropping on upper management let me know two weeks ahead of time that I'd be gone. I was actually relieved to be getting off the sinking ship early. For the time being I'm kicking back, sipping drinks, and watching cable. I have no bills, so I have no worries. It's good to be prepared. I feel the most for the town of Coudersport. They built their corporate headquarters in that same middle of nowhere. They employed the whole town, and gave loans to many townspeople. Imagine a small town where a military base has been closed, and multiply the effect by 3. That's what it's going to be like. Slow motion Hiroshima with no boom. The only positive I can think of is the demise of the corrupt local goverment there. Since dead towns don't have courts, the world will be slightly better once the coudy courthouse is empty. Maybe I'm weird but,
I like the idea of life not being so convenient that I get tired of breathing for myself and die. I think as we progress, we are really setting ourselves up for hell when we finally get out there and start colonizing this galaxy. Either that or we'll get so collectively complacent and tamed thanks to the built in electronic convenience, that we'll never bother leaving the planet. Then we'll die slow painful deaths when the solar flare of the Gods or other unplanned disaster renders our technology dead. I think more people need to spend more time walking around trails. Knowing the names of the trees you are looking at. Maybe even (please don't flame me) shooting a firearm of some kind. I try to do these types of things every once in a while so I have at least a passing familiarity with nature.
Being in the middle of nowhere (Upstate Pennsylvania), with the closest mall being about an hour away, almost all my shopping for "special" and "hard to find" things takes place online. I easily spend 80 percent of my alloted "mad money" online. If only FedEx and UPS would commit to getting packages here on time. See, if you are in some areas that they deem "remote", they don't honor any type of delivery guarantee.

Hello There,
Being in the middle of nowhere (Upstate Pennsylvania), with the closest mall being about an hour away, almost all my shopping for "special" and "hard to find" things takes place online. I easily spend 80 percent of my alloted "mad money" online. If only FedEx and UPS would commit to getting packages here on time. See, if you are in some areas that they deem "remote", they don't honor any type of delivery guarantee.
