    Depends on what you mean by effort. Technology and gross planetary product have advanced since the deforestation that humans started at the beginning of agriculture 10 000 years ago.

    There are lots of uses for a car or other vehicle that safely drives itself.

    For some reason, there are people who keep using 'self-driving' to mean something that sort of drives itself some of the time on some roads in some conditions, which is not the same thing.

    It will signal the death of a lot of channels that get few viewers. In the end, it may lead to less choice

    Less of bad choices, or choices that were never anything viewers would ever want, is something we could probably live with.

    If the quality of the survivors (hey, there could be a meta-reality-show in there somewhere) goes up, it could be a net gain for everyone.

    No, "they" do not. Some of them, on an individual basis, get an unfair advantage. And some do not.

    It's a statistical phenomenon, and statistically it *is* reality, but at the individual level it's dehumanizing and unjust exactly the same way as every other kind of prejudice.

    Name one Islamic Nation where Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists or anyone else is actually FREE to practice their religion

    Pretty much all of them except the ones that are Arab.

    So, instead of looking for a Kardashev type II civilization, we should look for a Kardashev type II, um, organism, or something?

    Maybe there is such a thing, but it would be so different from life on Earth that I'm not sure it would even make sense to try to distinguish an organism from a technological civilization (especially when even on Earth that distinction can sometimes be a little bit blurry).
