if you were some linux zealot (or just an 'anti-microsoft' zealot) with lots of time on your hands, and 1337 hAx0r skillz, you'd probobly devlop some sort of evil worm that would run around the internet screwing with IIS on all 'Evil' servers. Now, if you were microsoft, loosing marketshare in the webserver industry, with billions of dollars in the bank, and thousands of not-too-shabby programmers at your disposal, would it not be prudent to some how strike back at everything not M$, or rather anything apache? By doing so, the same media that told the world if how insecure IIS is would now be telling the world how insecure Apache is? just a thought...

Why the hell does everyone assume that thousands of hits to a website is some how going to cause so much heat that the hardware will actualy become dammaged?! Every time someone's site doesnt stand up to the /. affect, all one reads is stupid comments about how people hope the hardware doesnt somehow melt through the earths crust and end up killing people in china, or how it the radiation being put off by said hardware is going to somehow cause cancer in people that live in that area. For Christ's sake, the hardware is going to be just fine, even if its an iPaq running a webserver, its not going to run any hotter than it would if it were doing a make world, or trying to keep up with a flood ping attack. You sure as hell dont assume your server is going to start giving off beta particles just because someone running as root on some other server decided to run ping yourserver.com -f?? I wish you people would stop being such asses and stop posting such BS. That sever will be there tommorw, just as it is here today, and was there yesterday, and im damn sure that the heat given off was well within its orginal designed tollerances.

  14. What I've discovered... on Do You Like Your Job? · · Score: 0

... is that when my boss comes to me with some dulusion of grandure of a project i will sit there, maybe even take notes and nod and smile. Once he thinks he is done, he will go over stuff again, and add more stuff in the process. After it has become my job to complete it, i put my notes away, and go back to the actual problem i was working on before hand. Eventualy he realizes he was reinventing the wheel and tells me i dont have to do it anymore.

At one point i used to take his projects seriously, but after 5 or 6 of this huge undertakings, i stoped caring. The thing that i never understood was, I am a part time worker as i'm still in school and i was always given these huge projects and a deadline that even a full time worker couldn't meet.

So my advice would be to nod, smile, and get back to the real work you were doing beforehand.
