We are in the middle of a revolution.... maybe right now , in the the midst of the dotcom bust, things may look sour, but they're not. I still do what I have done since I was 14. I get on the net when I'm done work/come home from school and check my email, read/., read my net comics, check out anything interesting I came across, etc... You can look up anything and learn anything from the net. Or at least you can order the book.
Nearly everyone does some version of this, albeit smaller versions in most cases, and I doubt it's going to change. My kids will do some form of this ritual on their new computer-thingamajigswhatevertheymayhavebythen when they're old enough to figure out how.
Just cause the media and a few others say you can't make money off the net doesn't mean that someone won't figure out a way to do it. It's just going to take some time and patience and someone will figure it out. And when they do, it'll be another Internet revolution all over again.
I guarantee it.
And until then, people are going to learn and grow from the net.
Seriously... it could be used like a phone card. Put it in the phone, phone reads the data off of it to tell how much time you have, call goes through. Course you'd have to have something to read and write to the quarter built into the machine and it's probably not worth it.
But you wouldn't have to carry around a bunch of quarters.... only one.
Actually scratch all that.... it's just a bad idea.
The general purpose PC will never die. Maybe never is a little too strong but the end is no where near in site. Question: How many of you reading this would be able to put together a computer without looking at a book? With spare parts from a "Purpose" PC? Probably every second person to read this, I'd say. You going to have a machine for gaming and only gameing? Not likely. A machine just for wordprocessing? Not anytime soon. Ans what about all those old computers you've got. Those don't disappear into thin air. They'll be around somewhere. A couple hundred million PC's are hard to get rid of..... and I think the general purpose PC will be around for a lot longer than most of us, even if large compnies stop makeing them, smaller companies or individuals will find a very, very large niche market......
Now all we need is someone to steal some cell phone traceing software and we've got a job for Charlie's Angel's.
Oh Lucy Lui. Rescue me, please. Was it the Chad?
Most computers crash too frequently after being over clocked for it to be really useful. Yes it's cool and I love it, too. But it's a pain in the ass restarting my machine every couple of hours/random minutes. And for what? 50 mhz? maybe 75? Not worth it. You know it. I know it. Mind you, the coolness factor of playing with it. Now if we could overclock an extra 300ish mhz. That would have my attention......
What is taught to CSE and CE students can vary and is so broad that I don't think it matters a whole lot. I have friends takeing CE and I'm in CS and we can both program but he knows a little more about hardware/electronic but I know a little more theory. Nothing you couldn't learn from picking up a book.... Since computers are too new and evolve too fast in the world, unlike cars say, it's hard to say but down a curriculum in a school and say "This is what's best to learn." Have a look at what you like doing more, hardware or software, but know that both a CS and CE will probably get you to about the same place. Where you go after that will have the most effect on your career.
Perhaps the games market can push the graphics cards another one or two
generations, but I think already we're reaching the limits of what human artists can
produce in a limited timeframe (i.e. to meet deadlines to get a game published).
Some other revolution, besides "faster!" will be needed.
So what you're saying is we have to move gameing to the next level. And I think that that's AI. So we create an AI chip that specifically controls non player characters in games. Makes the bad guys smarter, act like a real person would. Game designers program their games to work with this chip and games would be a helluva lot more fun...
Just an idea. Think about it.
Fiber Optic, hey. Sounds like mumbo jumbo to me.......
Just joking. Sorry, That should have clicked in my head... but I'm a little slow most days. Thanks.
I don't suppose that laser's would work very well in the rain but is there any possibility of an under ground laser network? Like through pipes and stuff all built under ground. Or is that not viable?????
All I said was that, because of that last post, you're going there. Unless of course, I'm not talking to the same person, in which case, feel free to believe whatever that little, deluded mind of yours leads you to believe. It's your reality, not mine.
I think the micropayment idea is good.
Goats.com uses it and it seems to be working ok.
And I, for one, would give a dollar or two every month to sites I really enjoy useing. For example:/. and PA.
I'm talking about voluntary payments here. Not "Have to pay to use" sites.
I wish they'd take the billion dollars. Shawn Fanning put a lot into Napster and deserves to see it legally fly. I don't want to tell my kids about this great program that we used to have and how it was made illegal si they can't use it. I'd like to see Napster version 8.5.
All your CD sales are belong to us.
You realize that that last post was a sin. And you are now going to eternal hell. I'm an athiest and I don't believe in hell. If I was you, I'd convert right away.
Ha.
I think that the acronyms probably all meant something to the developers.... a few were probably normal like Keys and Full Ammo but spispopd was probaly something funny to them.... I mean... that's how I'd design a game.....

can I put it in a payphone a make a call?

maybe I can run my webserver off of my PS2.... That will save me the cost of my server...except that the my PS2 cost more than my server. Ah, shit.
Quite a cockmaster aren't you? True dat.
Now all we need is someone to steal some cell phone traceing software and we've got a job for Charlie's Angel's. Oh Lucy Lui. Rescue me, please. Was it the Chad?
Well I have been shown the way. Sorry, guys. My bad.
This is gonna make one helluva under $1000 dollar PC!
Well, shit. I'm gonna have to try that. Thanks for the update. I didn't think you could do that. It doesn't crash too often then? Crazy....

Sounds like the military is takeing Unreal Tournament to a new level. So where do I sign up again?

Bigger banner adds aren't going to stop your banner filter.
And a good portion of the rest of us aren't. For double my salary, I'd move to fucking alaska. For a little while anyway. Not that i like money....

I say we start a small movement with friends and family and co-workers to never buy a CD from the big 4 ever again. That's my plan...
