Ok... I understand why the RIAA wants to make more money off each track. There are only two or three good tracks on each CD. But to jack some prices up over what most new CDs are sold for in stores? How does that make any sense at all?
It's so fucking stupid that I want to rip my nuts off, cook them, and then eat them. Note to RIAA: YOU ARE A BUNCH OF FUCKING IDIOTS. God... I just can't stand it. They're begging for us to pay for music. Some people do. Now they want more money from those people while giving them less than they would by buying the CD in the store.
Have they been able to ramp up the speeds for this architecture? None of the articles that I've read even speculate on what speeds these would be introduced at. I know Intel was planning on releasing a 2.0GHz Pentium M in the near future, but what about for desktops?
Side note: "Whitefield" a new processor in the Xeon line based somewhat aroudn the Pentium M, was created in India.
Am I the only one unable to find anything about a Lumix named linux distribution? The only thing I could figure out is that Panasonic makes a camera called "Lumix" that is Linux compatible.
Intro to Algorithms is a great book and is the first thing I thought of when I read the original post. I really think it borders on being a required book for undergrads.
Sounds similar to the Univ of Minnesota. I believe the amount of math required to just get your CS degree automatically qualifies you for a math minor.
If you've got a lot of math to take, get it done early. It's not fun having some of the tougher math classes at the same time you're taking 2 or 3 upper division CS classes.
That auction is great... and shows why I just love ebay.
The CD being sold is $.99, which is a pretty good price. But the shipping and handling is $5.99, to ship one lousy CD, and $1.99 for each CD after that.
John Doerr from Valley's venerable KPCB talks about (his) venture fund investing $12 million in LinuxCare. NYT quote: "That's a freight train I wouldn't want to get in front of," said Mr. Doerr, explaining the importance to having a stake in a Linux-based venture.

This seems like the kind of thing that would keep me from using "free" wireless access, but I've a feeling I'm in the minority.
Good... stay off the free service and leave bandwidth for those of us who have the amazing innate ability to ignore ads. Hosting these free hotspots costs money (as does slashdot). They need to recoup their costs or they will go bye-bye. Who f'en cares if there's a little bit of your screen taken up with ads that will be easily ignored (at least by the majority of us not included in your minority)?
It's a good thing you run a website free of ads. Oh... wait... shoot. Now, why again do you have ads? Oh... that's right, to pay for shit.
i think they already posted a story like that in the last week or two... sounds familiar. Of course, I also read news.com, so who knows, I could have seen it there first.
Maybe once this mis-founded 'war on terrorism' is over, the cost of oil, in lives, will drop to only include those of the poor sods who work at the wells
and therefore be worth it, right? if we can get it down from 7000 or so a year (by your numbers, 15-16k a year by my numbers) to say, 500-1000 a year, or even less, then is this "mis-founded" war on terror worth it?
Interesting number since they've already found mass graves holding 400,000 or more, and that was last November. And those don't include the hundreds of thousands that were killed by Saddam attacking Iran in 1980.
Interesting quotes: "We've already discovered just so far the remains of 400,000 people in mass graves," said British Prime Minister Tony Blair on November 20 in London.
Some graves hold a few dozen bodies--their arms lashed together and the bullet holes in the backs of skulls testimony to their execution

Your SUV may get 15mpg but how many MPI* does it get? * MPI: Miles Per Iraqi
Well, are you talking about pre-Gulf War II or post Gulf War II?
Pre-Gulf War 2 the MPI would be much lower as many more Iraqi's were killed on a monthly basis (on average). It did fluctuate of course. For instance, Saddam was still busy killing and torturing his fellow countrymen when the UN turn on their extremely corrupt "oil for food" program, but the MPI did go up at that point as more oil left the country.
Post-Gulf War 2 the MPI would be highest it has been it quite some time, most likely the highest it has been since shortly after the pleasant Saddam took power in 1979 (although, in reality, he was running the country for awhile before that).
many similar arguments against the right to own a gun can be made against freedom of speech. for example, many say that the creators of the 2nd amendment never intended for it to cover the guns that we have today
do you really think the framers of the constitution really intended the 1st amendment to cover women drinking glasses of cum? showing mass orgies? or simulated rape?
couldnt even fathom not needing a gun to hunt 4) the handgun 5) hunting for "sport" and not substiance
handguns were around at that time. people hunted for sport back then as well and most (almost all) hunters these days eat what they kill.

And there was also lower volume and it was a newer technology, which usually equates to higher prices

which follows the general american format of DD/MM/YYYY, thus 5/3/2004 becomes May 3, 2004
You mean the American MM/DD/YYYY =)
I think it's just how us crazy Americans refer to dates. We say "on June 5th" (6/5/04) instead of "the 5th of June" (5/6/04).
Or am I wrong on this? Do people who use the standard DD/MM/YYYY still say "Month/Day" when refering to a date?

It cost Mr. Gates $800,000 to buy $50,000,000 worth of stock. So, I guess that's 1.6% commission for the SEC?

Unfortunately most of the "western world" is moving towards socialism, not away from it.
