  1. I hate Robert X. Cringely on Cringely's take on "Pirates of Silicon Valley" · · Score: 0

I can't take anything this man says seriously. Here is a liar and a fraud. Triumph of the Nerds misrepresents suff just as badly as "Pirates of Silicon Valley" did. For example, did you know that Xerox had a huge investment in apple. That is why apple was brought to Xerox. Steve jobs didn't even want to go. Also, the lisa interface was taken from the mac project before steve jobs even started working on the mac. Some where on Cringely's site there is a letter from the origional mac creator (not steve jobs) where he writes something to the effect of: oh well, fake man, fake history.

  2. Re:A revolution in its time on For Sale: The First Apple I · · Score: 1

If other people are interested in this topic I suggest a PBS documentry called the nerds of silicon valley. It talks about all this stuff and is generally really cool. I'm not sure if you could buy a copy but amazon sounds like a good bet. I taped my copy off the VCR.

  4. This makes no sense on Apple Sale Rumors · · Score: 1

Last I heard steve jobs had little or no stock in apple. Also, he doesn't get payed for being CEO. Why would he bother doing all this work and then selling apple? To make money? I don't think so. These rumors are old. Don crab's rumors have been pretty wrong in the past. Go check out his articles at maccentral.

  5. vcd on Bootleg Movies for Download · · Score: 1

I saw this unfold on hotline this past week or so. I don't think people realize how big this has become. I have seen about 30 movies online including ones that haven't even been released yet like the mummy preview. At about 1.2 gigs per movie though, this is definately not a thing for the masses. I guess after mp3's, this was the next natural progression.

  6. Old news.. on Apple Opening QuickTime Code · · Score: 1

This is old news. Apple said that they were going to do this a while ago. They are only opening up the server code and not any video codecs so don't get too excited. My guess is that opening up codecs would mean the end of quicktime for apple, so don't expect that any time soon.

  7. Imac is a great design idea on Dell is Building iMac Lookalikes · · Score: 1

You should check out the new imacs that are supposed to come out in a couple of weeks. They are rumored to ship with 333Mhz/32Mb Ram/6gig Hd for about 1200 retail. This is a great deal b/c the G3 is about as fast as a 400-450Mhz pentium, it has built in eithernet so you can network your home computers, and 3d accelerated graphics so the kiddies can play their games. This is only a little more than a comperable Pc- infact I saw a 350/32/6 gig going for 999. Add a monitor to that and you have a computer that isn't as good as an imac but for the same price.

  8. Marathon on How Doom got its Name (from John Carmack interview) · · Score: 1

There were many days when I would close my eyes to go to bed and run through Marathon levels in my head. And I'm not talking about planning what to do, I'm talking going through the levels as if it were me. All my friends had the same experiance. I even have a theory as to why this happens. My guess is that games like Marathon are so intense that you mind doesn't have the time to process all the visual info. Then when you close your eyes at night, everything comes back to haunt you as you mind finnally gets a chance to play catch up. Marathon ruled b/c it had something that doom lacked: a plot that made you just have to beat one more level before bed. I miss those days, and don't even get me started on Marathon 2/infinity.

  9. Uh, NO on Anti-DIVX article · · Score: 1

All I can say is that I have five movies that came with my DIVX player in december. I watched the first one a month and a half later and have been watching them (once each) since then and have never had my player plugged in to the phone. It is possible that it could stop working but it hasn't happened yet. You cannot do this with movies that have already played on your divx player but it seems to work fine with movies that you play for the first time.

  10. DIVX isn't that bad on Anti-DIVX article · · Score: 1

This article isn't subjective at all. I have a DIVX/DVD player and agree that DIVX sucks, but this article is wrong. First of all connecting it up is easy. Second, if you think of DIVX like renting a movie that you don't have to return the calling the 800 number to register is not a problem. It took 2 seconds. Also, the player does not have to be plugged in to work. Actually, I think that is a flaw in our favor b/c as long as you and your friends don't plug in their players, you can all share a DIVX movie. It has no way of knowing a mivie has been played one some one else's player withough the DIVX database.

    just my 2 cents
