Maybe not the women, they are ok but consumer prices in Canada are outrageous. The only reason I see this happening is because Canadians can afford it, fuck back when I lived in Ontario they had a "sewer tax".. that's right you pay for the frigging sewer underneath your house in addition to your normal yearly federal and provisional tax. They tax everything, if it has a name it is taxed. If a car costs 20k in the U.S it's 30K in Canada, cellphone prices are the highest in the world, etc etc.

It's amazing how anyone can afford anything.

  18. Re:daylight savings time on iPhone Alarm Bug Leads To Mass European Sleep-in · · Score: 1

Not one comment yet about the real culprit here: daylight savings time. If we didn't have it anywhere in the world, then programmers wouldn't have to worry about when DST happens in different timezones (or which places have DST and which don't), or worry about what to do with log files or anything else when time jumps an hour.

Someone remind me please what we're saving? It's not electricity, because we use lightbulbs before sunrise and after sunset in summer and winter.

DST does save energy. It may not happen in the place you live but the times for sundown/sunrise does change significantly where I live depending on the time of year. It could be 8pm with the sun still out one part of the year and 5pm in darkness another time of the year. The culprit here is the phone, with auto DST there's no reason for this bug, shame on the programmers. It's a completely silly bug.

  23. Standards are not the issue on IE6 Addiction Inhibits Windows 7 Migrations · · Score: 1

Having experienced this recently, where thousands of employees have to rely on a tool that only works with IE6, it's not something simple like CCS or scripting or some standards problem. This is large scale applications written entirely in Activex for IE6. Microsoft over the IE versions has changed Activex (for the better?) but that's the cause of the incompatibilty. I know one written by HP (not naming the app name) and deployed for thousands of users.. I bet HP doesn't even support it anymore and the company using it can't unless they migrate to an entirely new system.

There are two ways around it.

    1. Don't upgrade IE on your machine or one of your machines
    2. Install a VM with IE6 and fire it up when you need to use the tool.

Surprisingly (2) seems a lot easier to do from experience. VM's are a dime a dozen these days.

  24. Re:Maybe Microsoft is different? on Microsoft Is a Dying Consumer Brand · · Score: 1

how is it an irrelevant detail? Do you see anyone else making xbox consoles? Windows phone 7 os is given to 3rd party manufacturers who create the hardware, just like Google does with Android to Samsung etc.

Google pulled Nexus one because it made no sense to compete with the same companies they were licensing Android to. Same applies here to microsoft, they could take Apples/RIM route of creating the software and hardware but they did not. So yes they do not have a tablet because they do not make the hardware.

  25. ugh same old tired argument. I was part of the 12million, it's like saying 12million smokers agree smoking is good for you. Your fallacy is thinking everyone who plays wow likes to play it. I hated it the last 2 years until somehow I broke the addiction and quit.
