  1. Points for Aesthetics? on Mice Designed by Famous Anime Artists · · Score: 2, Insightful

I don't know about that. The first has no sense of symmetry at all. It looks like it was designed after some of those anime starships with all the projecting rods and growths out the front. And the second is all boxy and strange looking.

And the price is just.. nasty. I could see someone who is into these two artists getting them for collectors items, but for normal usage? Aesthetics aside the odd shapes would be a killer on the hand.

I'd wager those two should stick with Anime, cause they're much better at that. :)

  2. A Point of Patents Anymore? on Patent Cases Hurting Small Businesses · · Score: 1

Considering the current nature of patents and the fact that it seems every other company out there is trying to twist and bend them to their own will, I think it might be time for the organizers of these patents to put their heads together and develop an advisory board of some type that weeds out any patents that have language that's too vague. Or if there is already one, it needs to be replaced. Now.

This is getting to the point where I(and perhaps others) are starting to wonder what good there is in patents where they can be so easily used to give legitimate businesses a hard time. Though I realize it isn't a better idea to just ditch all patents and turn invention and innovation into a nasty free for all. Or maybe it is? Think it might be better to just turn them all loose on one another without restraints?

I'd wager that most Windows users aren't that technical either. I think your logic is flawed.

  4. It's alla bout Conformity on The Nation of Macintosh? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think that is what Microsoft capitalizes upon is a sense of conformity and 'normalcy' as much as they can promote. Anything but safe Windows seems strange and unusual, making most uncomfortable at the prospect of adopting alternatives.

It keeps people in line by their own natural reaction to strange and unknown things.

  5. Obsession on GameToo Much...... And Die! · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is just another case of obsession and poor judgment. The thing about obsessive personalities is that if games weren't there to obsess over, they'd just find something else and likely invent a new way to kick the bucket.

It is a sad thing, however. And not the most comfy way to pass away.

Especially if he didn't beat the game.

I wrote a comment to this, but to save space on this server I will only post a link to it. I don't agree with the above poster. But I will let the details of this be presented by my diary entry. Comments welcome here or there.

  7. Status symbol.. on Dior iPod case · · Score: 1

..for a status symbol? Heh. ;)

Well, that's certainly a costly case, though I think I'd much prefer the pocket, since its free. In my opinion, housing your iPod in a fancy case will just make it more likely to be stolen than being secreted away within a pocket.

  8. Skewed View IMHO on MacPerl 5.6.1 Released · · Score: 1

Well, I wouldn't call it crowing. Some things are just simple statements of current fact. No doubt soon enough another version of some other Perl will come out and they can say that's the most advanced Perl ever.

I get a little upset at people who think that a simple statement of fact like that is crowing.

  9. A Devil's Advocate in Training on Blizzard Rains on Bnetd Project · · Score: 1

After looking at this a little, I can sorta see where Blizzard is coming from on this, regardless of if they are in the right or wrong legally. I'm not up on all the new laws and crap, so don't bring legalese to bombard me with. Mostly this is looking at it from a 'Why would they' prospective.

For one, it's a matter of pride. Blizzard has, for years, maintained and cultivated BattleNet, servicing well over half a dozen games/expansions and tens of thousands of players. It's their pride, their commitment and having someone make a reinvent of their server technology to do what they do could be like a slap in the face.

Secondly I'm sure that Blizzard would like to keep their responsibilities squarely on their own shoulders. Rather than having someone create servers to host realms and mediate SC and WC games and do it poorly. If someone has a problem playing online, you can be sure its something to do with Blizzard. If someone starts playing with on a homebrew BattleNet, Blizzard can't be expected to cater to problems with their games due to uncertainty about this homebrew server software and just what issues it has. Thus it creates uncertainty and, through that, hurt feelings by those that might think it's Blizzard's job to fix what's wrong with their game when it would be folly to assume any legal responsibility to.

Third I've no doubt that Blizzard keeps track of the popularity of their game by the general numbers of players on Bnet. So if a homebrew Bnet server software starts to cut into that it throws off their general numbers and makes it all the more difficult to judge the popularity of certain games.

For that last you might think Blizzard could try and get a thing going with the makers of the software or any major users to share numbers and ideas. That could be, but even so the numbers could be doctored one way or the other(for whatever reason).

Personally, I've not heard of this software before today and I have no deep knowledge of its aims, capabilities or guarantees. But on the overall I can see why Blizzard would be upset by this, especially considering its unlikely the makers over approached Blizzard(to my knowledge) with a dialogue about the project. As to the legal issues, those have been covered and I'm no expert so I'll keep my fingers where they belong.
