Dior iPod case
An Anonymous Coward writes "How cool is the iPod? Cool enough that Christian Dior is selling an iPod case. It was designed by Dior Homme's Hedi Slimane, because he didn't know where to store his own iPod. It's black leather."

Not only can I get ripped off for an iPod, I can get ripped off of for a designer carrying case for it too! Such amazing innovation. Im not normally someone to complain, but this definately does not belong on slashdot. If I wanted to read about tech fashion accessories that are overpriced, I'd read Wired.

BTW, if you are at Collette, they have some super cool laptop briefcases for the titanium one made by Alfred Dunhill and another by Ermenegildo Zegna. This will set you back by $1500-2000 (the price of an iBook), but IMHO it is well worth it in certain upper echelons. Some of us geeks are Consuls
First I have to say "where is the hole for your ear buds?" Second it looks like fucking pleathor. I'd go for one that is simple black leather with a belt clip. Slip it in with an open top. Nice functional and to the point. But hell, I don't work for Dior so mine would cost a whole lot less.

This post is not ment to be flamebait. What geek really cares about this case anyway? I mean unless your trying to buy the case for a hot bim your trying to get with. =]

I predict the emminent collapse of Christian Dior as a harbinger of fashion. Call it a hunch. Those living in the past cannot plan for the future. All kidding aside, the way Apple products look elegant is matched by the way Apple's hardware and software elegance - sleek, smooth and functional. I'm not surprised those with an eye to elegance are moving to Apple's latest offerings.

like a belt clip! :)

Well, this will certainly fix those people who think that Apple equipment is for dilletantes and rich yuppies.
Er, maybe not.

I found it on Colette's online store here At 185.15 it can hardly be considered cheap but the first production is limited to 50, so it could become a quite unique item.
Somewhere in the heavens... they are waiting.
I have a iPod of my own, I can barely fill up a gig's worth of space, thats my main focus (not what case it's in). Besides I just put my iPod in my pocket when walking around... Besides people might mistake your iPod case as a tazer. =)
I've been *looking* for a way to make my iPod look like the pager I carried 5 years ago in high school!
"hansel, the MP3s are in the computer"
"they're inside the computer??!!?"
This is funny enough that I don't feel I really need to make a comment. I will say, however, that I really like the Pod Protector I bought from Other World Computing (OWC).
Fits like a glove, has a nice swivel belt clip, and it's only $30. It's no fashion accessory, but then I'm normally using my iPod at the gym and shiny black designer leather doesn't go so well with a profusely sweating, rich, yuppie elitist.
Oh wait... maybe it does.
Slashdot comments... splitting hairs since 1997.
Proof that an extremely high-paid fashion designer can still make something that's both expensive AND fugly. As if we needed more proof of that.
(Yes, I'm just jealous as I just can't afford an iPod at the moment =) )
"Honey, I feel a certain distance between us..." "Really? A 31ms ping ain't that bad..."
I'd like to see more designer cases like this (maybe a little cheaper). I got a leather case for my iPod, but I'm not really happy with the way it looks. I feel like one of those people that takes a great looking European sports car and sticks a chunky, black nose bra on it.
I wish someone could come up with a protective case that complements the look of the iPod. Is white leather possible? Maybe something that doesn't look like it was stitched by angry home-ec students?
Insert simplistic political, ideological, or personal proselytization here.
..for a status symbol? Heh. ;)
Well, that's certainly a costly case, though I think I'd much prefer the pocket, since its free. In my opinion, housing your iPod in a fancy case will just make it more likely to be stolen than being secreted away within a pocket.

I have no real problems with the whole idea of the fashion industry et all; cloathing a complex form like the human body is a rather complex affair when you need to make fat, rich women think they look 'Sexy.' As far as I am concerned, the Armanis, Muglers and Diors of the world probably don't get paid enough.
An iPod case, on the other hand, isn't really a project that requires a designer however. A guy/gal who knows how to sew leather around a box with a hole in the front and a flap that flips over, yes... a designer? No.
And I don't think it's an exception. The case is very tight width wise. So tight, in fact, I can't get the thing off. The seams are on the corner of the case which is poor design because the case can't be aligned properly - when something as bulky as a seam is attempted to be lined up with the exact corner of an item (inside of tight quarters) it's bound to fall to one side or the other. So the case is rotated around the vertical axis, like if your underwear was rotated around you. Doesn't look good. It also is too tall ("baggy at the bottom") and it leaves little black pieces of fiber (leather, I'd think) on the open part of it which make the white face of the iPod look dirty. In fact, the black leather of it doesn't very classy at all - I'm sure it's real leather but it isn't particularly supple, and the stitching done on it puts see-through holes in it, magnified by the whiteness of the iPod underneath. It's the only case I've seen so far that leaves the jog wheel open for use with the case closed, which is a great feature, but mine is really a pretty shittily-made product. I had problems with the only other accessory item I bought from OWC but their memory was cheap and works fine, AKAICT. I'd stay away from them for any consumer accessory that carries their name on it but I'd definitely buy hardware upgrades from them and possibly one of those spiffy laptop cases.
it's great..... granted there is something unsettling about non-nrrds having such cool toys (when i do not!), but there is also something pretty crazy about designers like that making a case for such a specific product. ignoring the price debate, the ipod is a REALLY rad device. using it as a walkman is just the beginning.... and the more Apple sells, the more of those neat little hard drives Apple buys. more money will go into developing them (hello multiple micro laptop drives). also if Apple keeps tweaking them every 5 months (as it seems is their current revision schedule) these "elite" people will have to sell their "outdated" devices on ebay.... sooner or later i will have one/some. granted it might have "happy birthday princess" laser engraved in the back, but i'll cope.
amyway, my rambling point is that i personally think it's a silly case, but i can't really see anything being a bad situation that leads to more Apple products being sold. there are people that want stuff like this.
yes, i am a stockholder too, but i have less than $1,000 worth of shares and do see this post making them so valuable that i can retire at 30.
I know I'm asking for trouble by replying to someone who can't even use their username to post (do you wear a white hood too?), but here goes: I work at the world's largest media company and I can attest that most of the Macintosh techs are leagues ahead of their PC tech counterparts because they carry much more responsibility - and get paid better too. They handle many more aspects of the business than your average pc tech and tend to have a better grasp on the latest technology in both the Mac world & PC one, as well as networking equipment, printers (ask a PC guy to calibrate a color laser printer and watch him squirm), and infrastructure. But I'm positive you have never even learned the Mac OS or its corresponding programming languages to cast a valid judgment anyway so I'll rest assured that you'll get modded down so quickly that no one else will even read your post and wonder what the hell I'm bitching about.
