Im no l33t d00d or nothing, But i did a traceroute to www.windows2000test.com and it seems that they have a firewall between there server and the internet. I think that is what is repling to the pings. check port 80 of the f/w...its not even running MS software.
www.windows2000test.com has crashed more then 8-10 times today. They turned off port 80. Took down the status page...and guess what...looks like they have a firewall(their webpage states that there is no firewall, guess they lied) too! 207.46.175.250. And it dosnt even run MS software. Guess MS dosnt even trust their own software. But, It seems that there are other boxes on that same subnet. Some with open FTP,SMTP,IMAP,pop3 and HTTP. They also could be behind the firewall though.
you only pay $75? 1/4 of my paycheck goes to the govmt. Then add sales tax, car tax, etc I get even less. I should quit my job and just go on wellfare.
my IPmasq/fw for my home lan is an old 386DX25 with 16Megs of ram and an 80Meg HD. It runs a home brew dristro of linux and goes months on end with out a reboot. It is also headless.
My first ever AOL bill was for $725.34, next month it was $27:) The windows version of AOL4Free was AOLHELL. If some real good programers started to mess with AOL im sure they could realy screw things up. 99% of the AOL proggies are in VB and are buggy has hell. And in the real early versions I know you CAN enter fake CC#'s and that still works to this day.
I ran Dr-DOS all the way up to 6.X. Then when I needed to install Win31 I found that it only ran under MS-DOS. This realy screwed me over because I had the drive compressed with DR-DOS's compresser. I lost a ton of stuff and time because of MS's little games.
Mindcraft and ZDNet didnt tell us all the info. They just basicly said "NT is faster". C't showed all of their data, even the parts where Linux lost. And Microsoft didnt PAY for part of this test like they did with the other ones.
How can we fix it if we don't know whats wrong? They gave out very little info about the 2 setups. For all we know they are running a NT verson made JUST for this test VS. Redhat 5 and some old ass version of SAMBA.
Come one now. This test wasnt any better then the first one. There are very few facts in it. They didnt even say WHO set up the Redhat box's. For all we know it could have been a 18 year old Redhat PHONE TECH!.
How many hits did the Linux server and NT server drop? Did any of the servers crash? What Kernel/Server versions where they running? Can we see the config files?
This test is WORTHLESS and is only good for making FUD. Maybe NT can realy beat Linux..OK. But they could at least give out some info on what Linux realy fell short on so it can be fixed. And again, version #'s would also be nice. They could have been running kernel 2.0.30/Redhat 5.0 and some old ass version of SAMBA. FOR ALL WE KNOW!
Anyone know where I might find the plans for the Altair? Or even some more data. It would be cool to make one, since there is no way in hell I would ever be able to get my hands on a real one. Arnt they based on the 8080? I have a few sitting around and I could also probbly get the rest of the old chips no prob.
Befor DOS 5 if you didnt have "prompt=$p$G" DOS would default to C>,A>,..etc. The prompt command makes it look lile "C:\" And on CPM the floppy drive was called "C>". On DOS it was/is called "A>".(or is it A:>?...its been a LONG time since I have had to use a MS OS.)
I have a few computers running the seti@home client and i have YET to see ANY other units other then from Jan 8. Nice to know all that CPU time and power that costs $$$ went to good use...
Well how do you do that on the Windoze client? By setting it to blank screen? then you cant do anything else. At least with the unix client you can run it in the backround.
NO normal user program should be able to take down the whole OS in a UNIX like OS. UNLESS Apple has the program running as root, if that is the case then the apple programers must be on crack.
...if you get 2 of the same brand modems and hook them up together with a 4 foot phone cord.:)
But realy now..I have always used the USR exteral modems and have never had a problem with any of them. The only other people that i thought made a good external modem was Hays, but they are gone now i think. I havent seen a better modem then my 56K X2/v.90 external USR.
Have you ever tryed to report the problems to the other ISP's? I had a problem with a *.mediaone.com user a little wile back so i sent a Email to MediaOne. And guess what...a real person replyed and MediaOne took care of it. TRY that with AOL, a BOT will reply and basicly say "screw you". The real problem is that AOL dosnt GIVE A SHIT. As long as the users keep sending is $20 a month they could(and do) care less what they do.

Someone has crashed it 3 times in a row...now the box is back up but MS turned off port 80(the webserver. So the box has NO open ports now. Real fair.

I just brought a toshiba satelite 2065cds about an hour ago. Cant wait to get Linux going on it.

"...OPPOSED TO WORD 97, RIGHT. YOU FUCKS."
Who would even WANT to use Word97?!? I use WP8 on Linux and WP2K on WinXX at work.
That won't work. He would have to be old enuf to drive to get to your house in the first place :P

Im in the NYC area and have driven to DC 5 times this year alone. Should only take you 5 or 6 hours to get here.
Why must we keep killing all these webservers? Can't we all just get along?
i see that now
If so then its been checked a few 1000 times already :-/
:)
PS: my 5x86-133 (486 class) linux box does a unit in under 2 days...you must be running Windoze

I just got a new Xerox laser printer and it seems to be up to par with it's PPM rate. But Ive noticed that all the PPM ratings on the InkJets are BS.
