January LinuxWorldExpo date & location moved
A little birdie told me that IDG has moved the dates of the January LinuxWorldExpo to February 1-4. The location, formerly Washington DC, will now be Javits Center in New York City. The new dates are February 1-4. The dates August 9-12, and location, San Jose, for the August Conference are still on. Check out LinuxworldExpo for more information - and they are offering free exhibit only badges.
1) You're a college student. You don't need a hotel room. You just crash at a friend's place.
2) Parking??? Only tourists and 'burbanites drive in the city. We use something called a "subway" to get around town. (The more well off use taxis; note that it doesn't prevent them from living in the City.) Besides, if you can afford a car, you can afford a NYC hotel for a night.
3) Spending time in the City does not require you to dine at "Windows to the World" or the "Russian Tea Room" or "Le Cirque". If you can't slog down McDonald's or BK, or like slop, then you aren't a hacker, and thus don't really need to go the Expo. (And yes, you can even eat vegetarian in the City, albeit overpriced.)
Nevertheless, I can understand your disappointment that's its not in DC. It could be worse. They could hold LinuxWorldExpo in Tokyo. (To correct your misperception, Tokyo is actually the most expensive place to lodge in the world.) And you have to pay through the nose just to eat raw fish!
DC is building another convention center that will also be too small to attract the really big conventions when it is completed. Go figure.
Living near DC, I'd also looked forward to this, but it's possible to take Amtrak from Union Station in DC to Penn Station in NYC in the morning, do a full day's conference, and take Amtrak home in the evening. It's not cheap, but Amtrak has electrical outlets at every seat in the cars, so you can use your laptop all the way there and back without fear of battery failure.
Im in the NYC area and have driven to DC 5 times this year alone. Should only take you 5 or 6 hours to get here.
I have to return some videotapes...
it looks like your a F***** Moron... you lame Puke Face PUNK!!!!
I was a Windoze programmer, Coverted over to a
Linux Programmer.,...
I made this change, Due to the new implimentation of windows 2000 and the Forced conversion. and the forced payment of 60.00 just to get a jump on it.
if you gots a problem wit dis.. feel free ta let me know. you RACEST BIGGET!!!
To err is human, to really screw things up, you need a robot.
I don't know about you, but perhaps if it's February 1-4, we shouldn't be calling it the "January Linux Expo" any more?
There is always two: A Master and an Apprentice. So Hemos, who between you and CmdrTaco is the Master Sith Lord? The name DarthTaco doesn't send shivers down my spine.:-)
I suggest that when Rob tells you to do something, you always answer, "Yes Master." (Okay, so it's a Jedi thing).
First of all, I think it's "racist" not "RACEST".
Second of all, I am neither, but I am feed up with people like you that insist on bastardizing the English language with rather moronic slang for normal English words.
Third of all, I don't give a rats ass about what you program, but I really do doubt you're a decent programmer of either platforms.
Forth of all, what the hell is a "BIGGET"?
FUCK NEW YORK!!!
DarthTaco...
funniest thing Ive read all morning.

:-)
YES!
new york i can do. i'd like to see boston happen, but the prospect of taking off to nyc for a few days is better than dc or california...
happy me
macworld (next month) was schedualed to take place in boston but was moved to NY in the end. The reason in macworlds case was that size/visability in NY is greater.
I guess that the same thing applies to linuxworld. Very good.

I just got my July issue of Web Techniques, and on "The Last Page" by Dale Dougherty it says:
The profiles of so-called geeks that emerged after the Littleton massacre irritated Jon Katz, who runs Slashdot.org, a vibrant "geek" site.
Well, I thought it was kinda funny anyway...

I wish theyd have one in NJ! Hehe, thatd never happen though, at least Philladelphia would be cool, I can hitch a bus ride to there.
Your Momma's so fat she makes emacs look like nano!
I thought the California people all used BSD of some variety or another. I thought Linux was just an East Coast and Europe thing. ;) I mean, I get all sorts of funny looks for using FreeBSD in DC.

Learn how to use fucking correct capitalization and/or grammer, and stop pretending you're some kind of ghetto nigger.

Your honor is perfectly understandishable.
Among the many things I don't give a rats ass about is your race, but one thing I am particularly intriged about you is your blatent ability to throw out damaging and self esteem destroying insults such as "LAME PUNK ASS" and
what-not.
Anyways, I suppose you're some kind of "ghetto gansta" and I should be scarred shitless that you might "put a cap in muh ass" or something. Well, boy, I'm not, and quite frankly I couldn't give 2 shits about "ganstas" killing each other in the ghetto, which you so irrelevently mentioned in your post. And if you really do live in the ghetto, MOVE.
I'm a college student in the Washington, D.C. area and I was very much looking forward to attending the expo in January. Obviously, those of us on limited budgets (students, government, small start-ups) can't travel to New York every time a show pops up.
...
Additionally, NYC has the most expensive hotel rates in the world. Granted, Washington's not cheap, but NYC is more expensive. All of you who are preparing expense requests for your managers, prepare to increase that request by a few hundred dollars. Not to mention more expensive meals, parking, etc.
