While I'll take your word on the subject of value versus profit, companies use profits to increase the companies value.

One of the http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/05/04/ibm_fire_1 3000/*Slashdot goodguys* is reportedly getting rid of THOUSANDS of employees BECAUSE they didn't have a good enough quarter. While some might consider this kind of behaviour NOT EVIL, it certainly isn't good.

Now I don't think IBM had to do this to save their business, and maybe it's a long term strategy that I don't follow, what I do see is over ten thousand people losing their jobs in order to "maximize" the companies "value"

By the way, the original poster's URL in his sig is great.

I think if Google actually wanted to adhere to "Do No Evil", they wouldn't be gone public with their IPO.

Public companies do whatever they can to maximize profits, I've even read (although I believe this was on /.) that they HAVE to do this.

There is also a long ways between "Do No Evil", and "Do Good Things".

On a side note, I use both gmail and google, I remember the pre-google days when searching was just painful. I hope that google will not start to do things the way most of the corporate world does.

This stopped all my problems (nForce2 board Asus - a78nx with an AMD 2800+ cpu). A friend has basically the same configuration and was having problems as well until he added more cooling.

I've talked to techs who repair a lot of machines in retail (yes, I can do tech too, but don't nearly have the volume of these people), and they say they would never recommend putting in any video card of this caliber without these precautions as well.

Is that companies who back these kind of ideas are the same ones who will outsource your job to save a buck. In a SECOND.

So they cry when anybody taps their market (be it VOIP, FOSS, or whatnot), and they lobby for laws to *protect* their business. Yet they have no problems doing this to PEOPLE.

Companies HAVE a responsibility to their customers, and the cities/towns/COUNTRIES they do business it. They should be MADE to give back instead of just taking taking taking.

I'm tired of hearing stuff about "well it's their coumpany and they can do what they want." This way of thinking is really wrong, IMHO, and is just a symptom of how they have brainwashed everyone. Morality doesn't seem to exist in the corporate world, everything is for the blind pursuit of profit... generally by crawling up the backs of hard working people, then kicking them down when they reach the summit.

Pure capitalism is faulty, somebody needs to reign these greedy people in. It'd be nice if someone could pull the wool back up, from over the general public's eyes.

this all makes me so bloody angry.

AVG used to be (IMO) the best AV around, quite a few times caught things the other bigger names didn't. Now, I find them average, if not a bit below. Couple this with the forced upgrade/purchase has made me decided to look elsewhere.
