I'm looking at going to AMD64 with socket939, and was looking for a board with both AGP and PCIe, but can't find one.
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro which cost me a fortune at the time and I'm not ready to ditch it for a lesser PCIe card (since I can't afford a comparable PCIe that I can afford).
Any ideas why nobody supports AGP, PCI, and PCIe on the same board? I'm tired of having to buy all new everything basically to upgrade... what's the point now... I'm probably going to have to replace my RAM as well.
As to whoever posted about always having to upgrade motherboard... well I went from like a 1.3 Duron to a 2500+ and that was a hell of an improvement. Stayed with the same motherboard.
I've often heard that the Mauri of New Zealand were not the first inhabitants. I wonder if anyone in this thread could enlightend me on the subject.
I heard the Mauri's were Polynesians that came over from (somewhereville) and basically killed/canibbalized the first inhabitants. I believe the people I'm talking about were also had a name beginning with M.
>> When I was in the Navy we joked around a lot about handling the ammunition for the 30mm CIWS gun until somebody finally brought out a geiger counter. Background radiation.
Could you have not gotten these results because of the metal jacket around the DU cores? I mean, not that I'd put it past the military to be willing to contaminate their men, but the negative press would surely stop them.
>> bullshit this is not something to be alarmed about. even a popular science reporter willingly got hit by this thing, twice!
there was a radio contest here a few years back (CFOX Larry & Willy for you Vancouverites), where the contestent got shot with a rifle. He was wearing a vest, but supposedly he dropped instantly, and I bet it hurt like a mofo.
The point is that people will do stupid things for attention or money.
Hell, with the prize they were offering I'd be tempted (if I remember correctly, it was basically everything was paid for for one year... car, house, bills..etc.)
I dunno, I found the thread rather interesting. I'd much rather have this modded up then someone's plagerist quote about the effects of microwaves on skin.
Now I'm Canadian, so I don't know all the ins and ours of your system... but here, we have two choices (basically)... it's either voting in one group of rich fucks that will only look out for their group, or another.
Actually, we do have things like the Green Party, who have no chance of getting in, and who's politics I don't agree 100% on... they'd be the lesser of the evils I guess.
I hate to sound like one of these cookie cutter non-conformists, but the population is basically lead around by the nose by the two main parties. Via the mass media.
For instance, one guy claims that his government has created 15,000 new jobs!
Well maybe, at $8 an hour jobs.
What about the 20,000 of decent paying jobs he eliminated?
I can't wait until they announce chocolate rations are up to 20 grams!
what scares me about devices like this...Is that they're not used INSTEAD of lethal action, they just create a new step for law enforcement to take.
They don't save lives, IMHO, they just give rights to the policement to use excessive force. In the past when a police officer was arresting someone who was resisting, they'd just have a bunch of guys hold him down and cuff him.
Now they see fit to zap you with electricity, or pepper spray, rubber bullets, bean bags, etc. Which generally cause considerably more harm, if temporarily, to the person.
It seems like they're willing to use these devices without even trying to see if the person is reasonable.
My own experiences: More and more police seem to use force first, instead of trying other things. They're bullies. I remember during the Vancouver riots, I'd get threatened (holding their clubs up to me and telling me to get off the street or else kind if deal) by riot police walking down the streets... before the riot even started.
Several years back I got into a fight after a fireworks event. The police rushed in and pepper sprayed me and the other person very badly. I ended up tripping on the curb because I couldn't see and smashing my face open. (Still got a nice scar, thank god the ladies like them:) In the past when I had dealings with the police, they would have just broken it up.
Now you might think that I got what I deserved, but I was just defending myself. I'm not your average nerd though, I have a lot of tattoos, and had worked out for ages. I figure because I looked rough, the cops felt justified to do this to me. This was before they had tasers out here, or maybe it would have been much worse.
Now I don't live in Iraq, so I can't say if they need these there or not, but it kind of scares me to think of local cops having access to them when large groups of people are around. Violent or not.
I totally agree here... a lot of the time if I google something I end up finding tonnes of "referral' sites.
When I go looking for reviews of whatever... I find pages of sites selling the product.
and the way google will ignore parts of my inquiry in quotes annoys me too... if I'm looking for "os/2" I'm looking for it, not "os2" "os 2" "os,2" etc.
It might be handy to search and be able to find permutations of your keywords, but not always.
What it boils down to is greed... by both parties. A lot of non-union people think that union workers get overpaid. I think that non-union workers are underpaid. We should stop trying to call other people down because they have it a bit better, and start trying to raise ourselves up instead.
Companies can charge what they want for products, but I shouldn't have a say in what I get paid? That's such crap.
On the other side though... when a strike or lockout occurs... notice how the union executives still get full pay?
I am not arguing for or against this, but it's not so someone can do nothing and get paid, it's so that other people don't lost their jobs.
If the company sees you doing 4x the work of everyone else, they have justification to try and eliminate 3 peoples jobs. Same reason why union workers don't do other peoples jobs... if they're an electrician, they're not going to take out the garbage... that's the janitors job. Things like that.
Unions have a lot of bad points for them, and they do protect dead weight. They also have a lot of good things about them... employee protection should be guaranteed.
If you look at why the unions were started in a lot of the industries, you can see they were really needed in places. For instance, I worked for 8 years as a longshoreman. Well before the unions it was basically a slave operation, with REALLY dangerous working conditions. Unions changed this.
People always figured we were paid too much, yet they don't understand how dangerous this job is even in this day. My father lost his leg on the rail, and I've known a few people who died on the job. Also, we made the companies shitloads of money, and I personally believe that they should share it with those who do the work.
Too bad they've been abused for so long.
P.S. In case your wondering, I'd still be there to this day if the damn union hadn't protected all the dead weight. Our economy went into the shitter, and the work dried up a bit. At least I walked away with a bunch of good skills. (Mainly machine operating)
Flux capacitor joysticks.
and I'm patenting it too so pffffft.
>> And what about Flash? Surely the entire "Skip Intro" thing was just a crazy designer fad and not a sign of a glaringly usability flaw?
Oh how I wish and pray (to Allah if necessary) for flash to be a fad.
First Cliche!!!!11!!1

I'll look into it, thanks man...this kind of thing interests me.
I knew the Asian immigration theory, just didn't know it was waves, and caucasian genes.
What the hell are you on about?
The translation is quite easy, yet difficult for some to pronounce, and impossible to put into words.
It's the yelping sound they make as they hit the hot switch, or ride into battle.

I don't think the US uses depleted uranium core loads in their rounds anymore.
Was recently reading about the A-10 anyways using some other core.

Please stop firing at the thermonuclear weapon.
and mod me down for quoting that movie.
Native americans were not the first people in the Americas, and the people they displaced weren't either.
Who was then? The vikings? They were here before Columbus, yes, but not before the natives?
Was it aliens?
Heh... all kidding aside... I'd like to know. Maybe some references too.
Sorry, a bit off topic here...
but have you taken your Prozium today?
The ballot box is a flawed system.

>>I don't think I've ever seen that in a game, and rarely have I seen in in movies.Screwing and fucking in lust, yes, but never what you described.
Dude... you've been renting the wrong pornos.
Didn't Kylix support c/c++ as well?
ahh yes, Borland.
I used to love that company, and IMO, C++Builder was a great tool, for either RAD, or as I used it, for making working prototypes of applications.
Kylix seemed to not catch on as well... of course... programmers on *nix are used to getting their tools for free.
RIP Borland.

What is it with society in general lately seeming to think companies deserve all sorts of special treatment?
I mean... I'm sure they're going to hire some new guy for this job... so why shouldn't he be able to get work?
I just posted something on the good/bad of unions http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=156377&cid=131 10956... but yours has to be one of the best posts about it I have read on unions.

How about the main guy from DEC's VMS project?
Forget his name, but he went on to design most of Windows NT (as well as bringing like 20 engineers with him)
