The fact that cable companies still have customers with MPEG2 boxes just shows they are cheap and soaking every last dollar before they upgrade. They bitch that bandwidth costs money, then refuse to upgrade to MPEG4 video because they would have to give customers new settop boxes! SDV is a joke, it’s a bad idea that saved them again from switching to new settops in the house and using IP to the settop to just do multicast joins and unicast VOD, instead SDV with its dynamically assigned QAMs is a mess, and a huge waste of money, when eventually they are going to want to be at IP to the settop anyway. Allot of these cable companies own their own backbones and bandwidth is cheap, but I know many are still talking about billing per used bandwidth! I know TWC in my area will start putting your used bandwidth per month on your bill, but not charging yet for it, they just want to let you know they are watching! I would say this had tons to do with them trying to figure out how to make you not want to use bandwidth watching TV on the internet, instead of them figuring out how to compete and provide better services, its game based on how to hold on to more for longer. And yes you subsidize they guys with your tax dollars!
Might have been fraud, but it shard for me to feel real sorry for someone that sold their company for nothing but stock in another company. If it was me I would have made damn sure I am getting something tangible out of a sale that big. And I would be looking for people to try to screw me over, even Goldman Sachs.
“what? how cool would it be to be the very first person born on mars?” Hmm, if I was born on Mars I might be pissed about it when I saw how great earth would look on video and TV. In fact the thought of having a baby on Mars bring some serious moral issues with it. What if we realize they all are going to die from some upcoming event, like running out of air in a couple months, you would feel bad about the people who choose to go there, but what about a baby born there? Would be feel more compelled to rescue a baby or child that was born there?

These steps, referred to as “Mitigation Measures,” might include, for example: temporary reductions of Internet speeds, redirection to a landing page until the subscriber contacts the ISP to discuss the matter or reviews and responds to some educational information about copyright, or other measures that the ISP may deem necessary to help resolve the matter. These steps will only be taken after multiple alerts and a failure by the subscriber to respond. This system consists of at least five alerts.
I do not see it in this artical, but from previous articles on this subject it made it sound like this process if different and instead of a email being sent you would get a browser pop up that would tell you the site you are going to, or the file being downloaded is copyrighted and illegal to download. Not sure how that would work for things like torrents, but I would asume you would get a notice when you go to the site that lists the torrent to download.
I was amazed the first time I found out that local cable companies pay to rebroadcast a local station over the cable system, to me it seemed like a win/win and no one would need to pay anyone. If anything you would think the cable company is helping get the station to more people and that creates more customers watching comercials. I think many cable companies do insert their own comercials thou, but only in some places, so I can understand paying for that. It sounds like Aereo is just wanting to make money getting a broadcast to someone outside a certain area, you would not think they would have to pay anything to the broadcast provider, but some people jsut do not like the idea of anyone else making moeny off something they feel like tehy created I guess.
Ok well to truly document your network I would say Visio some kind of visual application is going to be the best tool. I don’t use it to document client ports but all the big inter connections between routers and switches to give you a good understanding of what is going on. Using a spreadsheet only is not going to be a good way to document anything, I visual representation is always going to be better to get a good understanding on what is going on. Sometimes I do put notes on what kind of client ports connection are hanging off a certain devices. The spreadsheet work I do is IP address allocations and descriptions of what is using that space where. I have had to deal with nightmare scenarios many times were wiring was a big clustered mess of spaghetti, but instead of documenting anything before hand, I just unplugged one port at a time, and watched to see what port went down on the other side, and ran a new cable to replace that connection and make sure the switch/router port descriptions were well documented after that.
Agree with you 100% people with this idea of having zero government regulations are mad! The world would be ugly without someone to set some rules. Free market competition to keep prices competitive is great, but bringing up the Bank bailouts when anyone with any real sense would have had to do the something to help the banks out in some manner, unless you want to watch the whole US economy go to totally shit while you were in charge just because you stand by your ideals far too idealistic to be a real leader. And something tells me these same people would be the ones pissed off the most if nothing had been done and the financial system had collapsed while on Obama’s watch. There is also nothing wrong with the government saving the car companies. Sometimes things have to be done, and the government is the only one that can help. The Government is sometimes the one entity that can save something so big and vital to the country like this, they also are the only ones many times that can push a new technology forward by spending enough money to advance that technology years ahead of other countries, because the actual business model takes way too much money up front and the payoff is way too far away for most business’s to take that much risk. But a country like China will have no issues spending that money to eventually sell us, for example, solar technology once they spent the money to get ahead in 2 years what would take us 10 with a normal business models. But some of that might be called socialism and that’s close to communism and that’s bad and the devil blah blah blah.
There is no Free Market, The Free Market is handled in back rooms and the winners are the ones that fix the game. If we lived in a free market, things would look like Mad Max and Aretha Franklin would rule us all!
Let me just say this is very typical, I work for a big company that provides internet service, and it comes down to luck really, Any of these big ISP's can provide good service for a very long time with no issues, but if for some reason you have a hard to trace down issue that happens intermittently, the chances of you getting the attention it takes to solve that issue is not good. The bigger the company the smaller your problem is to them. If its something obvious that can be fixed quick you are ok, but if you have real issue, you can be waiting very long.
You can not fine them too much, or they will be so scared of fines and court battles, they will hold back and not hire people, you do not want that do you?
I think if it had been very obvious that it was Bush or Obama's head, I would have thought it was in bad taste, but when you actually see the head, you would never have known that was a Bush head if they had not have said something.
For me it was the scroll wheel, iTunes was a pain for me, I wanted to just copy my MP3's to the iPod, but because the wheel made it possible to go thru the 60gigs of MP3's I was loading on the device, it won me over, I stil have 2 old gen ipods (60gig and 80gig) and a iPad, i do not consider myself a Apple fan at all, and run home built PC's in my home. But the user interface of the iPod and iPad were both something worth buying. Sure there were tablets before the iPad, but the UI sucked so bad no one wanted one. I am not a big Apple fan, but give credit where credit is due, We now have many tablets that look like iPads, sure Apple did not invent the tablet, but they made it work and now everyones UI looks like Apples.
This is the third time now someone has posted that Greenpeace called ahead and that was why they were not killed, but it does not mention this in the article and no one has posted a link to where you get your info, you mind posting a link to where you are getting your part of this story? Or you just repeating what someone else posted 50 posts ago and figure they would not make shit up?
Using Midi controllers like many people mentioned would be the easiest way, but agree that many people in the Flight Sim community could help with building something more specific to your needs. I worked for a flight simulator company many many years ago, that made a flight simulator that eventually got bought by Jeppesen Sanderson (if you do not know them then you do not fly airplanes IFR, at least not commercially) and I used to put these consoles together for them (maybe 10-15 a day) for many years, was a cool job, and learned allot about PC's and hardware back then. All I can say is that these consoles were not easy to do yourself, but might be allot easier now a days. Here is the only picture of the console I built everyday I could find online anymore, kind of sad but this was pre/early internet days before companies had websites even.
I see no reason you can not have it both ways, it comparing apples and oranges really, its like saying, hardware running Linux fails more than Mac's that might be true, but that has nothing to do with the fact than the hardware people run Linux on is crap half the time. If you want a true comparison of the value of the OS compare Mac's with PC's running Linux on nice hardware. The article tries to make peole think that all Android phones are the same, and if you bought a nice Android phone you could have more issues than on a iphone, when thats not the case really.
Well said! I think its really sad you can not mention a union or the idea of a union anymore in the US without someone telling you how thier Dad or Grandfather says they are the devil. My grandfather worked hard in a factory his who life and told me nothing but that it was the unions that gave us a middle class and finally made companies pay a decent wage. But somehow I think the companies figured out how to fight the unions, make them look bad, they will force you to join them and make more money. After all a union is just a group of workers that join together to fight for their rights, because everyone knows a company will fire anyone that stands up for themselves in fear it will grow to the rest. So make them all look liek the Mofia runs them all, because we all know there could never be a good union made up of workers that just want to stick up for themselves, they must ALL be evil.
To be really honest, I for one love to eat meat, but can not stomach the thought of actually killing an animal myself, not even a ulgy animal. I really love animals, but love to eat meat allot also, so I guess am just screwed up, not really sure what to do about this, but not eating meat just seems to drastic of a food change. It also seems to me that to kill something and look it in the face and watch it die is something that is either to hard to deal with or just to real for me, not sure but I just do not want to take that step in to being able to hunt and hold up dead deers in a photo for instance.
What were the targets in the WTC attack? except to harm innocent people as revenge maybe? Honestly the idea that us going in and killing the person that was listed as enemy number 1 on our list for 10 years upsets some people, upsets me. This man killed lots of U.S. citizens, and the goverment had to react, it shows others you can not drop planes on our cities and live, period! If that bothers you in any way you have some serious issues. I have no problem playing the other side of some issues, and I can see that Bin Laden might have in his mind been doing the right thing against us, by doing what he did, but then he also knew that by doing so he was going to hunted and killed one day, and no one said it had to be a fair fight. I just wish I could have seen what really happened that night. Do not get me wrong, I could never do what that Seal team did, and it is amazing we have men that can do this so well, you have to be thinking there is a good chance you are going to die yourself going in to something like this.
One thing I was wondering the other day, has there ever been a situation like this before, where a single person shot someone so important like this but not get any real credit for it at all in teh press? Maybe he does not want to be known for this or would have to stop doing this for a living if he was anounced, but you would also be pretty famous, all this talk and someone out there that took that shot knows exactly what happened, what went down and can say I killed Bin Laden and just can not say anything about it I guess.
Wireless will never be as good as a wire, get over it! you sound like a baby, IT departments do not create the standards for WIFI, and WIFI is good enough right now for you to use your iPad on it, if you want to get serious put down the pad and grab a wired desktop like anyone else serious enough about their job. The "make some bullshit work that a dream up, or ill cry you are not doing your job" more than annoying, no wonder you posted as a coward troll.
