This is right, this is way my father got a job past retirement age. He only had money to really pay for major medical, that was closee to 1000$ a month, and does not include prescriptions and doctor visits. This stuff is a real issue, I do not understand how some people think this country does not need universal health care, I guess they think they will live healthy forever.
Yea no idea how I got marked Flamebait and the GP post got marked Insightful, WTF what a bunch of mindless goones on this site, you know even if you are doing well now in life, don't mean it will always be that way. But whatever I guess.
Agreed, and I like the Space program, and believe it pays for itself given time, but its a hard choice between people starving now, and the payoffs of space exploration. Just try to tell a starving person they have to starve because someday we may be able to populate other planets or some shit.
Thanks for the response, My father who worked very hard his whole life had to once take Welfare before we havd to move to find a new job for him. Not eveyone that is on welfare, wants to be there, and as the most wealthy and powerful contry in the world, we should be ashamed we do not do more to take care of our poor. god forbid that the fortunate give a little to take care off the peole that have nothing. Then people complain when the crime rates go up, people will do anything when they have nothing and are starving, not that I think that stealing is ok, but that a father will do what it takes to feed a starving child. Why not take care of these people, and sure a percentage of these people will always take avantage of the system, oh well, are they really getting somthing for nothing, or just being paid to stay out of peoples way that really want to to something with their time and lives?
"It's perfectly acceptable to waste billions of dollars paying uneducated dolts to sit around and do nothing but create more useless babies"
I love how all people on welfare are "uneducated dolts" etc... Why is it when people need money for things like NASA (of all things, and I love space exploration) you would take it from poor people, that most are woman that were left to take care of our nations children, or even just people that were born in a shitty situation (yes it does happen) instead of take it from WARS that have been proven to have been a lie and hudge waste of money?
It always some asshole with a condescending attitude towards others that piss me off, they just can't stand the fact that someone might get a handout when they need it, and they themselves did not get something for free, cry me a fucking river! There is plenty of waste, stop trying to take it from poor people.
Actually, here in Charlotte NC, I recently have been noticing allot of Segways being used by the local police in the downtown area, and also by park security in one of most popular parks. Laugh if you will, but the older gentleman in the park was actually doing fairly fast laps around the park, and easily covering more area that 2 or 3 people would, even on a bike he would have gotten tired much more quickly and not have been scooting around like this. The police in the downtown area were in a line of about 8 of them all on Segways, and I saw 1 police officer run down a taxi that happened to run a red light right in front of all 8 Segwayed police officers and watched the rather cool looking police officer (or at least he really thought he was, sun glasses and all) give the taxi driver a good talking too while he balanced with his arms crossed on his POLICE Segway. I have no idea how long the battery lasts though and if the battery recharges quickly somewhere local, but the version both the police and the park security guys were on were more outdoors looking with off road looking tires etc. So maybe the Segway has just not taken over the world YET.
Agreed, I love all thier albums, including In Rainbows. I saw them live just a month or so ago, and they were great, the light show was pretty new and really awsome.
Call me a snob if you like, that does not change the fact I can tell the difference very quicly on my 56" HDTV between HD content and DVD content, especialy when the HD content was recorded with a HD camera, not upconverted from film. To me the diffence is as drastic as going from VHS to DVD. Some people just do not care, and that is fine. My Dad can sit in front of his 15 year old tv and the picture has a red ghosting hue to it, and drives me nuts but when I tell him he should get a HDTV, he just tells me he likes the one he has just fine, this is a guy that watches every sporting event on TV, and that content is mostly shot with HD cameras, so he would really benefit from the upgrade, but would he care? NO
Its all BS anyway, so what if you get a 100Mb connection in Japan, that will probably only help you get 100Mb to the local Japan networks. I bet their connection to the US is still slow. I have worked at a Telephone company that could have turned your FTTX connection up to 100Mb, and your DSL up to 20Mb I now work at a cable company, they can turn up your bandwidth much more than they do now for sure. But giving you a higher port speed is really like giving you a wider garden hose, you will just cause bottlenecks in the network, they have to upgrade infrastructure etc, as well as upgrade all their uplinks to other providers etc... The fact that most people in japan live in apartments and it is so much easier for the telcos to run faster speeds in the last mile, really does not mean much at all.
This is a very good question, I would think SDV should be coming soon, then they will not need to recompress the HD streams anymore. SDV will change allot of things for the cable companys and give them the bandwidth savings that IPTV sees today with IP Multicast it seems. I think I like the idea of just pure IPTV (Multicast IP) better BTW, but this is interesting stuff for Cable.
I personaly have every email back to 2003, I find it very useful to be able to go back and search them for things. These are White House emails, I would think they would be kept much longer. Also most emails are so small in size, they can be kept very easily for long periods of time. I could almost fit 1 million emails of 5-10k on my keychain flash! I see no reason at all to delete them if they are of any importance at all, NO!
Sure accidents happen, even in the White House, I am sure. But its a matter of coincidences here, the emails that were needed in this investigation are missing, that could happen, but the percentage of the exact data that was needed has gone missing would be very low, unless you just happened to mess up all the time, lets just says its maybe 2%, MAYBE, I would hope that in the White House it would be on the low side. Now given this Presidents reputation so far, and the events that seem to just happen right when they need them to happen for his aministration to not get in to trouble, if you still belive this is not a simple criminal act, you sir would be the perfect example of the gullible people here in the US that scare me to death. In fact, I find it funny here on/. that we discuss how some policy's in some companies etc, do destroy their hard drives, I am sure they do, but this is what happens when nerds discuss these things, we tend to over state 100 times about how hard drives do get destroyed by policy, and not talk about the fact that no one in thier right mind would believe it was really a accident, period. So either you are just gullible as Gomer Pile, or you might just not want to believe this is true, maybe cause you were 1 of the people I used to laugh at with W04 sticker on their car, that seemed to have totally disapeared in the last 4 years (every once in awhile I still see one and through a egg at them), and that would mean that maybe you are somehow to blame for some of this mess we have gotten in to?
I agree with this, this problem of the last mile is BS, and always has been, also people comparing us to countries that have faster connections to the house is BS. Most those Asian countries have lots of density, and that makes it easier to connect people as higher rates. If you connect lots of apartments by puting local switches and ethernet that is easier to give people faster connections. DSL2+ can do up to around 25Mb down, that is allot, and new specs are going to provide 100Mb probably more soon, but like with most DSL that kind of speed drops off quickly the further you get from the DSLAM, its a fast drop off, so its get to were if you are not really close you get same speeds as old dsl. The telephone company I work for can provide up to 25Mb to your house via DSL, they sell up to 10Mb, why they dont offer the full 25Mb? Hmmmm well because thats crazy, not only has out bandwidth doubled every year out to the internet, we have to pay for that bandwidth also, its not free. we provide bussiness with 10Mb fiber ethernet links (MetroE) mostly only use 4-5Mb of that during the day, I know allot fo the people here could figure out ways to use what ever amount they can give you, but you can not be the worlds server and server and download eveything all day for free. So when people talk about people in Japan getting 1Gig connection, its not like we can not provide that also, now via ethernet switches in a apartment complex just like anywhere else, but are we sure they sell that full bandwidth to the customer? if I was running ethernet to a switch for customers in a apartment, I would probably not give everyone 1gig either, unless it was to let them copy files between each other that fast, like on a local LAN, but out to the net there is still going to be bottle necks. There is a big difference between what you can technicaly do, and what you are actully selling people, it has to scale. At some point there has to be a bottle neck going from Japan outside the local japanese telcos network. Bandwidth is cheap within your own network, it does not cost me as much to provide large bandwidth between customers on my own network. but when they tranverse to other networks besides mine, its costs me. We also provide FTTX, at speeds at around 75Mb down (GPON) think the ACTIVE-E connections might be faster than that, this is good, but even then we offer 10Mb of that bandwidth for Internet, the rest is for, voice services (pots), and video services (TV). Again though I do not see issues with the last mile, we can get speeds to the customers, thie issues are higher up in the network between providers, and even then I am guessing we are further ahead than other countries, its just that allot of those countries have 1 telecom provider, I know China does, and providing more bandwidth between its own custoemrs is cheaper, than out to the rest of the world, I really think you have to look at the whole picture here, not the articles about the how fast the last mile is to some people apartments in china or japan or something. The problems with the last mile in the USA is a problem with people being allot more spread out, I dont not care were you go, if you live out in the middle of no where, its costs more to get you a good connection, it costs to run the cable out to bum fuck. The company I work for is semi rural, and they have fiber out in areas I never thought there would be fiber, but the fiber feeds copper DSLAMS, because running fiber between homes out there is not reasonable yet, still its a toss of a coin if you are close enough to a dsl2+ dslam to get 25Mb down, you maybe get 10Mb, or even 6Mb. but this is because you live in a different layout than in a big city, where everything is on top of each other. I have friends I work with that have 15Mb down to their house now, we would not sell that speed, but since they work there, they tweek it. I am not lucky enough to live in my companies area, so I pay another telecom to give me 6Mb down, I know they are doing DSL2+ to my modem, but only are selling that
During the resync of the first drive, I had not idea to resync before I pulled the first drive out. I had a copy of some things, mostly digital picture album stuff (thank god for that huh, no one wants to lose that) But lost years of very rare hard to find musioc videos, and things that were just way to much space to have a copy of. I have a copy of more things now, but even now, I can not have a full backup fo a 2TB NAS, I was lucky to have the 2TB NAS at all I guess. Me and a buddy has thought about if he gets one, doing a resync between us, for atleast smaller size directories of things. If I would have know the problem I was going to have, was going to happen, I probably would have immediately put back the first disk when the NAS locked up on the first rsync. Something I did might have made it worse, but I did think about what I was doing when I did it, and to me at the time seemed like the right thing to do. The error I got during the resync was "Aiee, killing interrupt handler" in the front of the unit, and it seemed locked up to me, even the reboot button on the front did not work, I had to pull the plug. I used mine to stream media also and love the thing, it even streams iso's! But i did have a major issue with it locking up during a drive capacity upgrade, I already have a thread about it on here. After that and losing lots of data, its hard to recommend to someone anymore.
What does it matter what one you do first? Yes you understand right, I was going to replace the 3 disk with 3 new 750GB disks, the total disk space should not grow till the 3rd disk is replaced, then I was going to adda 4th.
I bought a Infrant ReadyNAS before they were bought by Netgear from NewEgg, without disks for around 650$ http://www.infrant.com/products/products_details.php?name=ReadyNAS%20NVPlus I used to think this thing was awsome, that was until I had a issue with it and lost all my data not long ago. I had 3 500GB disks running thier own XRAID configuration, similiar to Raid5 but allows patitions to be resized whne you grow all disks to bigger sizes. I was planning on changing all 3 disk to 750GB disks and adding a 4th 750GB disk. When I pulled the first drive out and replaced the new 750GB disk it started to rebuild the new disk and after some time locked up. giving me a error of some kind of process panic on the front screen. After I rebooted the thing it then told me the new disk was dead, so I swapped it with another of the new disks I had thinking that all the information to rebuild that new disk was on the 2 untouched drives still. After that the thing was acting very strange and would never show the volume info right and after calling Netger and waiting almost 3 weeks for them to tell me if they could get my data back, since they can SSH in to the box, but do not allow ssh for customers in to the machine BTW, they told me all data was lost. I redid the whole NAS and now it is just over 2TB in size, and works ok, sometimes very slow, but seems very stable unless you have a real issue like above.
Agreed, sometimes the goverment should run things, or atleast regulate them strictly, because profit is not a good mix with some businesses, this is the same reason I agree with government run health care. Besides I am getting sick of the fact that eveytime you mention the government running something people mention the DMV, I dont mention McDonalds when they talk about a company doing the same job. Sometime I think the goverment has to sep in, when making money off a business is not in the peoples best insterest, and instead making people safe, or not sick is a better reason to do something. I am all for companies making money off things like elevetronic goods etc, things tht are for fun, not to help people live, or in this case protect them for a major disaster. Anyway, wish I could have modded the parents up.
Ok you got me, I want to smoke the stuff already! and it makes great rope also! I see no reason to grow hemp that does not get peopel high, waht a huge waste.
"I've not noticed anything "considerably" broken with BIg daddies"
Haha I thought that also, but if you read, there was some broken Big Daddies, that were sold in some limited edition boxes of the game I belive.
From the article
"The Limited Edition of the game has also been experiencing complaints, as the Big Daddy figures that were shipped in the package were prone to breaking during shipment."
and
"Levine tells us that these situations are also issues no longer. 2K Games will be replacing broken Big Daddy figures, providing a free art book to affected consumers as well. "People have had some broken Big Daddies. We've dealt with that"
So there you go, they don't mean the AI, I actually loved the AI of the Big Dadiesin the game, I think the game should have a A+, really it was a great game.
Check out this one, my dad sent me, obvisously from a spam mail, but maybe it should be on Slashdots front page?
