..that to the way Hindus reacted when pictures of Hindu Gods were depicted on toilet seats (in UK)
Actually, it's much more amusing to compare it to how Hindus reacted when they were trying to build the first McDonalds in India:)
You are correct, I am from Sweden, I do not however live in sweden (haven't for quite some time now, think 9 years or so) which would be why you got it wrong:)
And yet.. you've still blanked out the first 8 bits of the IP address;)
No it's not 213 (it's not even 3 digits, I just always blank out things with 3 X's), plus the IP belongs to an ISP, I just blanked it out for added effect (showing how scared I was):)
Know anyone who owns an island or a small country and is willing to donate the domain name? What would MPAA or RIAA do? They can't invade a country.
In the case of supernova they probably bribed the police into doing all this scaring tactics. As far as I know the police in Eastern Europe is not really interested in piracy and computer fraud, they got other things to worry about and besides, some countries don't even have good laws concerning computers and internet BUT for a large enough bribe the police in those countries will arrest and scare anyone regardless of the crime.
EU, efficient as it is, normally takes 5 years to answer a question on how a law is to be interpreted, plus the EU cannot in itself enforce any laws but rely on the member states to do so. In the case of ThePirateBay, Sweden sees itself as having followed the EU directive. If they haven't, well, ask the EU as to how the law is to be interpreted and wait 5 years, at the very least, for an answer:)
Then ofcourse you need to wait approx. 2 years more for Sweden to make a lawchange and then about another year for the law to be enforced, so I'd say time is on your side!
Ofcourse, DMCA or any other US specific laws do not apply in Sweden so TPB, or any other bittorrent tracker you wish to open, is completly safe and cannot be shutdown or forced to remove material in any way shape or form (as decided by the Swedish Supreme Court in 1996, linking to copyrighted material is not against the law). Hence, you do not need an island or a small (well, not that Sweden is that big but still) country in the middle of nowhere. Simply host the site in Sweden and you're set!
TBP, safe to say the torrent community is still strong just like it was in the suprnova days, might just be you who decided not to be part of it anymore.
TvTorrents,www.tvtorrents.com would be another one, there are plenty of torrent site, thepiratebay, without a doubt, being the largest in the world.
If you wanna have a laugh, take a look at TBP Legal Threats, and then decide how big the chances are that tpb will go down (lawchange in sweden, where TPB is hosted, takes approx. 2 years, and they haven't even started trying to change it yet).

How many people have been mentioned in almost every newspapaper in the entire world on the same day, I doubt the president reached the levels that de Gusman did after writing the loveletter worm, and this is a guy in the phillpines who will probably not be able to afford a trip outside his country ever.
The feeling of power for this individual must be enormous... not saying its right, but you were asking why people write these things, and the feeling of power is something I believe is a big reason.
Then ofcourse we have the fact that a lot of these threats steal information etc, so as you say, money would be another reason...
"Americans want to rule the world, the only problem is that they can't find it!"
Seriously though, this is the case for most other countries already... if you don't have a passport you aint getting in... don't see what the big deal is, but then again, I'm not american.
I just hope that the rest of the world starts treating American visitors the same way we are treated when coming to the states... stand in a long queue (35+ min to get to through the queue), answer a bunch of really stupid question, have your picture and fingerprint taken.
Having my picture and fingerprints taken doesn't bother me, but I do believe that Americans coming to Europe should be treated the same way.
... this is how likely it is that they will be able to shut down the largest bittorrent tracker in the world (and the answer to the question you are thinking about is no, that site is not a tracker):)
... almost forgot about the time I soldered a modchip in an xbox, plugged it in to see it working perfectly, dropped a screw on the powersupply and the entire house went black.
Went to the store, bought another xbox, swapped the powersupplies and returned it:)
I got really annoyed once while playing some shareware game (scorched earth I think it was) and my computer case was open. The game kept making this really annoying sound through the internal speakers everytime I screwed up, so after I while I got so mad that I took a pair of metal scissors and cut the cable to the internal speaker.
Directly after I cut the cable, everything just stopped. With everything, I mean the game hung, my fans just stopped and the harddrive went silent. However, after pulling the powercord and then starting the whole thing up again, I was amazed to see that it worked flawlessly:)
Moral of the story, use plastic scissors if you want to cut the cables to the internal speaker, or cut them one cable at a time:)
You had me going until this point. I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop. I bought this particular laptop because it had high marks for Linux compatability.
I could not get this laptop without some flavor of Windows XP. Nothing on the packaging indicated that I could return the O/S - the Windows XP product license sticker was even stuck to the bottom of the laptop when opening the box!
Didn't you buy the laptop from Dell?
How is it relevant that DELL (note: not Microsoft, but DELL!) forces you to buy XP?
If I buy an alienware laptop and I don't have the option to buy it without having to pay for a boxed copy of redhat, can you really blame that on redhat?
The story is about the conflict between the ancient Athenians and the Atlantians 9000 years before Plato's time. How likely is it that this actually exists?
Plato wrote about a conversation between Socrates, Hermocrates, Timeaus, and Critias.
How likely is it that any of those four people knew about a civilisation 9000 years before them... how much do we KNOW about anything that happened 9000 years ago.. and we have a lot of technology to aid us now that did not exists during those times...
I don't believe that there is anything worth looking for.. but then again, just my opinion.. I accept the fact that I could be wrong, although I find this highly unlikely.
McGyver helped discover Atlantis in one of the movies alright. Same actor - Richard Dean Anderson.
IIRC, he then destroyed some of it in order to escape.
Let me guess, he built a bomb out of a bag of crisps, added some water and made it a hydrogen bomb, right?:)
I miss McGyver sometimes, I still remember the episode where he started his car (dead battery) by putting two plugs in a cactus:)
I saw the documentary about how the euro-tunnel was created... and it pretty much came down to these machines that did the drilling. It is unfortunate that the ebay pictures dont show a person standing next to it.. it's hard to understand how huge this thing is.
There has never been a drilling machine as big as this one created before, and unless someone wants to build an even bigger tunnel, it's unlikely it will ever happen. Therefore, this one should be very valuable in a museum, if it will fit that is.
The eurotunnel was built using two of these, one started in France and the other one in the UK. However, when they closed in to the middle, one of them was sent down (they don't have reverse, so options were limited). Therefore, this one is the only one remaining.
Anyways, current bid is at 24K GBP, which is more than I have in my pocket right now, so I guess im not bidding... considering the fact that this thing is bigger than anything vehicle made by man, I wouldn't really know how to bring it... anywhere.. really... (it was assembeled at the location it was going to be used.. if anyone is wondering).
You are failing to consider the extent to which Windows internal architecture dictates the software running on the platform.
Most of the time Microsoft bashing is valid, but saying that this is Microsoft's fault in any way is about one step away from stupid.
If this was the fault of Windows, a buffer overflow such as this one could not happen under Linux/MacOS/FreeBSD/Netware etc etc etc.
However, a quick search on SecurityFocus tells us that it did infact happen on all the platforms listed above.
So, please explain to me how Microsoft can be blamed for this in any way!
...and saying that they should not allow code-execution on the stack or make it more secure so you dont need a firewall are not valid arguments.
From their page:
So, to the pirates out there who think this is in some way illegal, it's
not. However, what you do is illegal.
Actually, downloading a filed called UT2K4keygen.exe is completly legal. If you have the game, you can also have a keygen (AFAIK this is legal both in Europe and the states).
Secondly, you could never get a person convicted for piracy because he DLed a file you created and allowed him to DL from you, regardless of the name of the file... atleast not in europe...
If they should be locked up, then so should all the b4st4rds who shove their spyware into innocent users computers and actually corrupt their operating system to steal extra viewers for their own pathetic adverts and websites.
I can think of two reasons why this is worse than spyware:
Most spyware has EULA's (End-User License Agreement), this thing does not. Granted that most poeple will not read a 10-page agreement, but atleast it is there!
This thing uses your bandwidth illegally. I believe that David L Smith, the creator of the Melissa worm, was jailed with the main charge being the illegal usage of bandwidth.
See my reply to the previous post.

The best thing about Stargate was that it looked like it was happening right now.. did that have to start using uber-scifi-costumes?
The only existing written records which specifically refer to Atlantis where written by Plato
