I've got the RC for Ubuntu and have used it for a month or two. It fixed the networking, so that after sleep it would actually connect to the network. For some reason, the driver was programmed to fill with random values so it wouldn't sync unless you rmmod / modprobe ath9k.
On the downside, the RC removes control of the backlight. What I'd like to see next is fixing the kernel so that the new generation of touchpads is recognized, or maybe something like ndiswrapper for other drivers.
Although he did violate the Secrets Act (or whatever you Yanks call your version) there's evidence of a more serious breach there. Now I'm just a humble military contractor, so all I know is how to handle detailed drawings of military vehicles in a blend of commercial and military environments. With my work history, I know enough to... let's just say that if I was a Bad Guy then it would be a very interesting day if I snapped.
Before I start, thank you for your family's service. I hope that you never have to use any of my work, but if you do I promise that it will work flawlessly the first time. I take my work very seriously, knowing that people who are braver than I am are depending on it without a second thought. My family has a long history of military service.
First, to access Classified documents you generally require a separate computer on a secure network. Your personal laptop isn't going to cut it. You have to work in a special room (Van Eck) so you don't have Bad Guys reading your communiques. Usually these rooms are guarded with guys with weapons. They will ask questions like "who the fuck are you?" and "get the fuck out of here!". You see, I obviously have a clearance or I couldn't do my job. However, just because I have a clearance doesn't mean that I can read any document I choose. I have to have a need to know. If it's not something I'm working on I don't get to know anything about it at all, and that's the way I like it.
You also have to have someone else in the room with you precisely to avoid this kind of thing. Remember the signs from the nuke bunkers: "Men alone will be shot!"? That's how seriously they take security. Well, no, not really. That's maybe for show or for NATO 3 ATOMAL stuff. In real life they understand that sometimes buildings burn down. "In the event of a fire, try to lock up the documents but your safety comes first. Security breaches can be remedied afterwards." And these are things that would fuck up a lot of people's daily lives if they got out.
So, the questions that you really have to ask are: 1. Where was the Security Officer? 2. How in the ever-loving fuck did he get a DVD-R in there? Secure computers usually have the drives disabled or removed because THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN COPY OR READ FROM. You can't copy these documents because they are LOCKED DOWN. Seriously, if people came in with guns and demanded copies at gunpoint, I couldn't do it. I'd want to because of my lead allergy, but I just couldn't. 3. Would it be trivial for me to set up a network where one could read but not copy documents? Wouldn't the Army do that same trivial thing to their own secure network? 4. Aren't all environments with Classified documents certified before they can be used?
So a guy that we've never heard of, a PFC no less, gets into a secret network, bypasses all the security, makes a copy of a bunch of files, and then is "disappeared" for a year where nobody can see him, not even his lawyer.
No, totally not suspicious at all. It's like they're depending on people not knowing how secure networks and secure equipment works in order to distract us from something...
Back at University, one of my profs used the pirated version on MATLAB. He did, however, have a fully-legit, paid-for, shrink-wrapped copy in his office... still in the shrink-wrap.
He paid for the licence, not for the disk. As far as he was concerned, he was a legal user of MATLAB since he paid for it. The pirated version just worked better than the official copy because it didn't try to keep calling home and timing out if he was on a different network.
Nope, a document is either Classified or it is not.
There are different levels inside Classified, such as 2, 3, NATO, ATOMAL, etc, but that's not terribly important. The vast, vast, vast majority of documents are Unclassified. That's because it is a FUCKING PAIN IN THE ASS to get your hands on anything Classified. You can't copy it, you can't email it, you have to use secure networks, work in pairs, etc. You'd be surprised at how much stuff is Unclassified. For example, the layouts of warships are Unclassified so the contractors can work on them. Only the tiny little bits that are really important (like the [REDACTED] or the [REDACTED]) are Classified. You can go about your day, working on military equipment, without ever having to use your security clearance. That's a good thing because you also have to go through a lengthy debriefing once you've worked on the drawings. Careless talk like "Oh yeah, I had to order part XYZ a year ago. A good vendor is ABC." Who-oops! Part XYZ, being of dimensions X, Y, and Z, now gives out a starting point for some first principles work, and then presto, the same info that's in a Classified spec.
You have to have three things to read a Classified document: 1. The appropriate clearance level. That's where the levels above come into play. 2. The need-to-know. If you have a clearance it doesn't mean you can just look up any document you feel like. You have to have a reason. 3. The appropriate environment. Computers and networks are assumed to be non-secure and you can't make copies.
So the interesting thing about this is the guy who leaked the documents isn't entirely responsible for what happened. Where was his supervisor? How did he breach security? I can't just walk into a secure room and download [REDACTED] on a thumb drive.
If you mark something as Classified when it's not supposed to be then it's a violation of those same Acts. There's a completely separate classification system for things that are personally embarrassing and can cause damage to a person. Classified is only for things that are damaging to the country. Damaging, NOT EMBARRASSING!
Primarily, intelligence. We're both high on the charts and it's really nice to have someone close on the scale to talk to. (The kids are hilariously smart.)
Second, our personalities have always worked really well together; other people were saying, "you've just met? It seems like you guys have known each other for years."
There are a lot of other things as well but those are the two bigger ones. It's not all perfect. We've got problems but everyone does, and we're trying to work them out.
I met my wife on American Singles. We've been married for 13 years this past summer. We've got two kids. We're both busy professionals that don't go clubbing, have different hobbies, and had bad luck dating people based on what they looked like.
YMMV, but if you don't have a car or put gas in the tank don't expect much.
Wikileaks worked with the Pentagon to make sure that field operatives were not put into danger. "Beardo is feeding us info" is different than "Oh man, this video from the Apache is embarrassing as FUCK."
Also, and this is the most important point and I'd like you to read it,
I AM THEIR BOSS.
I am not a taxpayer or a voter or a constituent. I'm a Citizen. So are you. The government exists at our whim. They don't get to hide their communications from us under the guise of it "being classified" because it DAMN WELL IS NOT. There are rules about what can be considered a Classified document, and personal opinions are NOT part of that package. In order to be Classified, there must be a clear and distinct danger to the nation if The Bad Guys get their hands on it. That's stuff like military radio frequencies for the [things], crypto waggles of the day, and other things. 95% of the drawings and plans for warships are unclassified. All the electrical wiring, the layout, etc, are all just available. So there's not a lot of stuff that's really and truly Classified.
It's not things like "Hilary Clinton doesn't like the German Chancellor's hairdo" or "Putin likes his muscles". You can't just slap a "Classified" stamp on something and hope that it never sees the light of day. That's an abuse of the system and it carries significant penalties.
No, you have to choose. You get to pick either Moore, abortion, gun control, gay marriage support; or Palin, destroying terrorists, bailouts and conservative values.
You can't pick and choose a la carte. This isn't a restaurant. This is America.
You realize that MSE is tested as the best, lightest, cheapest AV solution available, right?
I used to use AVG until it got spammy. Then I used Avast! until MSE came out and it tested better. (I use Linux and my brain as my main AV products...)

"We'll also ensure that any "grey" P2P downlaoding is split amongst several anonymous IP addresses so you can never have any activity traced back to you.
"In sum, you use your computer as an access node, giving us your excess cycles. You get to use the excess cycles of other people's computers when and as required, assuming that we do not require them at the time."
I've got two kids and I don't let the school system take responsibility for their education. That's my job. They're little so they don't know a lot of First Aid. (Mostly how to avoid requiring it and get an adult) They do know the One Rule: Don't Panic. The buck stops with me and by extension my wife. Anything my kids don't know is MY FAULT.

And look at Officer Bubbles. The fucker doesn't even know the difference between assault and battery.
I mean, dustiest table in Pompeii, but still, it's a basic split in law.

You bank without using a Live CD?
Even better, my bank will let you change your password to one with special characters but their login page won't accept them.
Then they ask some dumbass question like "what is your favorite movie?" but I just answered all of those security questions with another password. ;)
Also, I prefer to date someone who's literate. Online, that's immediately obvious. In a pub not so much.
hwo is dattign made?

Come on, be realistic. Palin wasn't born until 1964 so
OH SHIT SHE HAS A TIME MACHINE
My address is [my first name]@[major provider]. It's ancient and I plan on keeping it.
Weird. I always thought that the woman in the limo was Lee Harvey Oswald in drag, and Jacquie was the one with the rifle in the repository.
To be fair, to use that login you have to go through a few steps:
1. You have to be shrunk down and enter you own brain.
2. Remove your common sense.
3. Show the back door your admin and not admin.

That's not true.
Just the other day a guy here went to jail for 20 years for not having a bike light.
I'm wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for jaywalking and defacing currency. (I wrote "Happy Birthday" on a $20 with a Sharpie for a friend's birthday.)
Damn signature...

Someone on a fark thread said it best: (paraphrasing)
Financial education in this country is having the Citibank VISA booth next to the registration desk during Frosh week.
No. The summary, the article, and this thread are all one big CF.
