You have that backwards. Pedophiles are the group that society wants to watch burn. The group that nobody will cry for as they are marched to the stake, or the concentration camp, or the guillotine. The group that politicians use as moral grounds for passing laws based on hate and vigilantism instead of justice.
It's a slippery slope my friends.
I was thinking that it wouldn't be in the best interest of gas stations to provide a charging service because it would undermine their current business model, which is to distribute gasoline.
But then it occurred to me that if they make the same margins on the electricity as they do on the gas, then it's actually better because they wouldn't need to maintain a huge distribution network for gasoline.
Finally, I realized that switching to electric charging stations would enable small companies without a massive oil distribution network (or even the local electric utility) to compete, and make their margins a lot smaller.
So...I'm sticking to my original idea that gas companies will do everything they can to stop electric cars from reaching critical mass. Because at that point, they're essentially obsolete.
By that logic, investing in your 401K is silly. Predicting that you will reach old age is pure arrogance; nobody can predict the future. It's likely that you will die of cancer, heart attack or stroke before you use up your savings. Many people predict how and when they will die. But no one has ever gotten it right yet.
I would say that math can indeed be an opinion. Much (most) of modern physics is based on math, and there is a lot of debate as to how mathematical models translate into the "real world". String theory is one example...some people believe it's real, some don't.
Of course, you don't have to get THAT complex to start seeing strange behaviours. For example, did you know that the sum of all positive integers (1 + 2 + 3) is -1/12? http://www.numberphile.com/vid... Do you agree with this result?
51% agree with the statement: "Computers will be able to create art as well as humans."
I wonder if people realize that this requires an AI so advanced that it's indistinguishable from the human brain, with fine motor skills to match. I see this as highly unlikely.

Internet. Interconnected networks. No where does that mean unlimited bandwidth or even guaranteed connectivity from network to network. It is not Comcast's responsibility to provide enough bandwidth for you to stream a 3rd party software at maximum bandwidth, just like it's not their responsibility that you have 10 ping to a Counterstrike server in South Korea. Cogent is just as much responsible for this as Comcast. Cogent is serving as Netflix's ISP and they are not providing enough bandwidth to Comcast end users.
Yes, copper heat sinks get hot fast because they have high thermal conductivity. But once they are hot, they don't cool down very fast. The limiting factor is the copper-to-air interface, not the CPU-to-copper interface. Why do you heat sinks are designed to maximize surface area? Why do you think case fans are so important? Because these improve the heat transfer from the metal heat sink to air. Copper's thermal conductivity obviously isn't the limiting factor.
Water cooling is far superior because water has a very high thermal capacity, so it stays cool over a much longer period than a metal heat sink. In addition, the warm water is pumped out and replaced with cool water constantly, so the thermal differential stays high (where in a metal heat sink, once the metal heats up to 70 or 80 degrees, it loses its ability to cool the CPU).
For those wondering, Pluto has a diameter of 2302km and ranges 30 - 49 AU from the sun.
So these rocks range from 2 to 20 times as far from the sun as pluto, and the one mentioned in this post is about 1/133 the volume.
but there is a secret alien base on Pluto
Was this a reference to the Spathi in Star Control 2? I think I know what I'm going to play tonight... :)

Okay, now I want to know what would happen if he did pee on the moon.
I think the moon would get wet.

Eject all Beliebers into space...lower mass = increased rotational velocity = no need for leap seconds.
yes but does it have Jesus?
Thanks, I just snorted my coke.

I am celebrating this day by changing my passwords from 'password' to 'password1'.

Well, there's always the possibility that you have access to the site's comments database. :)
Or you could put the copyright in your signature.
So you're saying that because we can't predict the future, we shouldn't plan for it? Or make any effort to influence it in a positive way?
I did say it might not work :)

How do I delete my account?
You could edit all your posts and write "copyright 2014" then issue Slashdot a DMCA notice. But that might not work.
Why bother voting at all?
Because we have to maintain the illusion of a democracy, that's why.

Lol. I was kicked out of a bookstore once for moving their bibles to the sci-fi & fantasy section.

I have it on good authority that those two people are Santa Claus and Jesus.
