Speaking as a former Best Buy employee, I can agree with most of what you say. I would just add that while there was no "formal" commission, I would routinely be reprimanded for letting a laptop or PC be purchased without selling an extended service plan and I would get small things like giftcards and gift certificates if I met my extended warranty "goals" (quota might be a better word with the way they railed on us to sell them). Part of the first day of training they made it clear that in the shopping cart with that PC I better have sold them a $30 gold plated parallel cable for their printer, an extra ink cartridge, and a warranty.
Actually there is a relevant quote on this from the May 1980 reader's digest... Hubbard - "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion."
>>If you have anything to do with SOX or HIPPA you know what I mean.
I do, and I know what you mean. Three weeks out of every year I sweat bullets and don't sleep while I go through my annual review with them. Internal Audit is the worst stress there is.
While I can't comment on the DB part, I can give a little insight into the idea behind this having worked on something similar.
CTI is a "common telephony interface". In my particular application, you would call into our helpdesk number and get a automated voice response unit. It would prompt you to type in the asset tracking tag off your PC. Once you entered this number in and pressed the # key you would be parked in the queue waiting for a helpdesk tech to answer. The IVR unit would pass this asset tag into the helpdesk software via CTI, and the helpdesk software would query the asset db so all the PC information would prefill right as the helpdesk agent took the call via a softphone on the pc. This allowed for all the relveant info to be present and sped up the call.
In the event the agent needed to transfer the call to a level 2 rep, they would transfer the call via softphone and the CTI interface would pass along all relevant details to the new party taking the call. This saved us from having each person taking the call to ask for the same basic info over and over again, and if each tech inserted noted on what they did, the client would not have to repeat the problem and the level 2 tech would not have to repeat troubleshooting steps already done.
Long and the short of it, the DB has to be quick enough to pass this info along or its not useful. If the info doesn't prefill immeadiately and it's quicker just to ask, then you haven;t bought yourself anything.
>I just saw the video. That kid was being a total ass. You couldn't count the number of times >security was telling him to get up. He didn't, not becuase he couldn't. He just did not because >that was his choice. You could even hear other students in the background yelling at him to "just >get up!"
duh, the *whole point* of the taser is to INCAPACITATE you. So the cops can then go in and cuff him and put him in a squad car. You talk about it like hes just stunned. My buddy is a cop and as part of his training he had to get tased. The way he described it, it's next to impossible to have any sort of motor coordination for the next 15 minutes. So to say it was "his choice" to not cooperate after being tased is incredibly retarded.
>This was not an unsolicited behavior by security, he was the one causing the scene, being >disruptive and disobeying authority. If he had is ID everything would have been fine, but he >didn't, and he refused to leave. You thing security asked him once and he was on his way out when >they decide to stun him?
did you watch the video? he was halfway out the door when he got tased and screaming "I said I would leave!"
>You could tell he was throwing the dramatics out in full force. It was enough yelling and >screaming on his part to get students to whip out their video phones, at least.
If excessive force was being used on me, I would make sure everyone in earshot was aware too. If these things don't get documented, the cops always win.
Actually the office of foreign asset controls has a list called the SDN (specified designated nationals) that is a list of both countries and individuals that banks are specifically prohibited from having any association with. The fines are severe for any infractions.
When I first saw a demo of WinFS, I was thinking more along the lines of "Show me the email I sent to Tom last week about the concert tickets" in a simple interface or a show me all pictures of Sara from our trip to Mexico sort of thing.
Wikipedia whoring here..... loved the reference thouogh :-P

I linked to this elsewhere, but Phoenix Motorcars is as well (for fleet sales).
Check out phoenix motors. The SUV and truck are estimated to retail for $45k once they roll out to the general public.

Same here. taxact all the way. I use the d/l'd version though. I just feel better about having my tax info stored locally.

>I would fully agree with you, but how do you know this guy is innocent?
Last I checked, it was innocent until proven guilty.
