I have a sticker on my mailbox that says "no flyers" they honour it some of the time, when they don't, I file an online complaint with Canada Post, that stops the junk mail for a couple of months, and then they start delivering it again. I had an argument with my letter carrier at one point, I caught them putting jumk mail in my mailbox, I asked if they would please stop doing that, they told me to get a sign, I pointed at the one already there, and then they claimed that they never put junk mail in mailboxes with signs like that! (ummmm... I just caught you doing it!!) Of course even those signs also won't help with "addressed admail" which is usually addressed to "current occupent" or "resident" They insist they have to deliver those ones by law. Unfortunately I do still get the occasional important item by mail, so I can't just put up razor wire around the mailbox and tell Canada Post to stick it.
If you are refering to buying the note2 without seeing one first, I'm not sure I can recommend that. It's a personal choice, it works great for me, but others may find the screen too big to use comfortably (my wife can't use it without both hands).
As for getting away from the grid. I do that frequently too, but the spots I go without electricity usually don't have cell service either, so charging the cell phone is relatively moot. If you have a vehicle with you it's easy to charge from 12V, there are solar chargers available too, but I've never tried one. I do have an external battery pack that I could use, but I generally haven't found much point.
If you're choosing which device you want to take with you, and you use a reasonable carrier you can already do that, take whichever device you want, put your SIM chip in it, and go.
I have a Note II and my wife has the S4. most of the usability is pretty good, but they'd be hard pressed to find a worse design for the power button. Coming from a Motorola Milestone with the power button on the top edge and just slightly countersunk the power button on the Samsung devices is such an obviously stupid design. I never once bumped the power button on the Milestone accidentally, and it was still easy to hit when wanted, but on the Note I'm constantly hitting it when I don't want to, or hitting the volume buttons at the same time. I'm also not a fan of the hidden menu and back buttons, sure you get used to them, but there's no reason they couldn't be visible a little bit when not backlit.
Happy Galaxy Note user here too (5.3"). I do get a lot of comments about the size, but no problems with usability.
Everyone tells me my Note II is too big to use, but they aren't the ones using it, I am.
I do like the stylus drawing ability (agreed, not everybody needs this),
That's why I bought the Note II, I would have got an S III instead if they made one with a stylus. It's an amazing input device.
That said, if they can improve the display to make it sunlight readable, that will be a big plus.
They did. Try comparing the Note II to almost any phone made a year before it. Sure there are better, but it's actually quite good. This seems to improve with every generation of phone (my wife just got the S4 and it is better yet)
Also, better battery life is always a boon (not too unhappy to have to plug in every night or second night, though, but it takes a bit of planning when going on trips).
It's really hard to complain about a device of this size and ability that requires charging once every day or two. It's also hard to find a situation where you can't arrange to charge it every night. In fact mine is my bedside clock while charging, at home, in hotels, or anywhere I happen to be.
They would do good of providing some convenient belt-carrying (or other) method for a beast this size. Cargo pants take you only this far, and some jacket pockets are already at the limit of squeezing the Note into.
Many options there, look in to a company called "RipOffs" they make belt pouches of pretty much every size (ignore what phone they're supposed to be for though and just find a pouch that fits) I'm sure there are also companies making Note specific pouches, but I haven't looked. personally I always manage to pocket the phone, regardless of whether I'm wearing cargo pants, jeans, or a suit.
Depends on your definition of comfort. I have the Note II, and I love it. sure it's a slight stretch to reach the far corners with my thumb, but I can. though how often do I actually need to? My comfort though is in a screen so large that I have to do very little scrolling compared to any other phone I've ever seen. That is what makes it the most comfortable experience.
That's not always a good thing though. going from my previous phones to the Note II I miss having some part of the device that isn't a control surface. fishing the thing out of my pocket is usually enough to accidentally either accept of reject most phone calls before I can even see the display.
Do you also remember how people were scrambling to get their hands on those fancy PDAs? And no serious businessman was ever without his laptop? Not to mention people carrying paper address books and daytimers. And even with all of that, they still had to wait to get home to send an email.
Sure a smaller phone is nice, but I'd rather have a larger phone then carry multiple devices to accomplish the same task (and the larger phone does more than all those previous devices put together)
Having a "phablet" (the Note II) I definitely appreciate the functionality. I have the Note II, I also have a 10.1" tablet, and a desktop PC with a 30" and 23" screen. The tablet gets used about once a month when I'm staying out of town, and I'm starting to debate giving up on that and just using the phone. The PC gets used probably 4-5 days a week. And the phone gets use constantly. The Note II is big enough and powerful enough, to do a large portion of what I use a computer for. It's no mystery that PC sales are down, so much can be done these days from a device everyone carries everywhere already.
And I choose the Note II for the same reason, biggest screen that I can still operate one handed. It also fits in most pockets without too much trouble (as long as you aren't trying to cram a dozen other things in to the same pocket) Honestly though when looking for the Note II the s-pen was the deciding factor, I would have bought an SIII if they made one with the s-pen. but now that I have the Note II I know I made the right choice.
I can't imagine going to a 6.3" screen though, that stops being usable without both hands, and won't fit in a lot of pockets, so I might as well get the biggest tablet I can (which apparently is only a 10.1" screen unfortunately, my ideal would be about the size of an A4 sheet of paper)
Since when has the industry had any interest in broadening their sales? if anything, the reverse. see region coding, or try using netflix outside of the USA (hint, you won't find the same selection) The industry won't wake up and embrace the global economy, they will go down kicking and screaming, and they intend to take the rest of the world with them.
Actually, my "point" was that everyone should stop paying bank fees, because there are banks that offer this. I used my bank as an example, but I am aware of several banks with similar accounts. And yes, I do think anyone who stays with an account that charges fees after being shown the alternatives is stupid. There is absolultely no reason to do so with so many fee free options available.
If the concept of saving hundreds of dollars a year on bank fees is "pure silliness" to you, then I don't think there's much hope for you. I surely hope that you never complain about how much money banks make, or how much you pay to them, as it is your choice to pay the fees when there are many alternatives that don't require them.
As for my grasp of english... I don't see how that affects how much people pay in bank fees.
At today's interest rates the extra amount is negligable. The more important lesson is that you need to take the value of your paycheque and spread it out over the time to the next one. looking at your account on payday and deciding you can go out for a night on the town, and then realizing 3 days later you can't afford food is not the fault of the frequency of your paycheque, but the lack of budgeting.
People don't use them because they don't understand money. I have a free bank account. No fees, access to one of the largest ATM networks in the country for free, free cheques (and I mean they print you new ones and mail them to you for free in addition to not charging to use them or accept them) no fees for any normal banking service., and an interest rate that is significantly higher than what most banks offer (which admitedly these days still isn't much) I've talked to people paying monthly fees and asked them why they do, and they tell me "it's only $15/month," (plus various other fees I don't pay) I just can't convince them to save that $180/yr. it boggles the mind. Of course these are the same people that are rich on payday. and broke the rest of the month. The people who think being paid less money more often would make a difference (weekly instead of bi-weekly, or bi-weekly instead of monthly... hint: it's the same amount of money, it doesn't matter how they divide it, learn to manage it!)
I've never had anything to do with any of these cheque cashing places, but I think the reason they were happy with the 10% was that it was pretty low for the industry. I've seen advertising recently offering "$200 cashed for only $20" (with fine print saying only available on your fist chequ and only one time) so I'm assuming that the 10% is not the norm and is in fact much lower than the norm.
Of course I've also always had no fee bank accounts and a basic understanding of the process of budgeting, so it's never been a big deal to me...
and my union negotiated away double time overtime in favour of time and a half in exchange for union dues being deducted from the lump sum signing bonus...
The design is actually reasonable on the subs we bought, and they were probably decent subs when built. The problem is that they sat around in salt water with no maintenance for many years between when the British stopped using them, and when Canada wanted to start using them. That "maintenance" part seems to be important...
You cannot copy over MP3s like you can with any other device on he market.
Sure you can, but you need 3rd party plugin at least for Windows to do that.
So what you're saying is that you CAN'T just copy MP3s accross like you can with any other device on the market. Instead you need to install special software on your computer to do it.
Well, I had the misfortune of owning a Zune, and an iPod at the same time.
With so many good mp3 players on the market, why on earth would you do that to yourself? I'll forgive someone who bought the marketting hype and bought one of those, but to have bought both... You might want to seek counselling!
Yes but now someone has "circumvented a copy protection mechanism" and the punishment for that heinous crime is among the harshest in the land...

TPB doesn't respond to DMCA requests because they aren't under US jurisdiction and hence the DMCA doesn't apply.

Never been in any millitary, and nowhere in my comment did I say I was American.
When you can't attack the message, by all means, attack the messenger.
