One thing wrong in your statement. They are not saying that anyone took code from SCO UNIX. (why would anyone do that?) but that code was taken from System V UNIX which they now own the rights to.
yes like the ability to switch window managers. and to have both multy desktops and virtual windows. Gnome used to be a good desktop for experienced users.I could have desktop environment goodness and still have my desktop setup the way I WANT IT. With the steaming pile of cr@p that gnome 2 has become you no longer really have this option. They have even changed the api for reporting programs to the tasklist.(I see no reason for this except to make sure that it will not work with other window managers)
My answer so far has been to drop gnome all together then just run enlightenment or afterstep by it's self. I do miss the autohide panels and the nice gnome 1.4 tasklist but it is better to keep the desktop I have used since 1995 (4 desks that are each 3X3). My other fix has been on my workstation at the office has been to not upgrade!!!
I used to get upset at the people that complained about the duplication of effort between the gnome and kde because they where making 2 different approaches now I don't see enough difference for there to be 2 projects.
I think a new project called "The REAL Gnome 2" with the Gnome 1.4 codebase updated to use the newest version of GTK 2 would be a great idea.
New Coke is not dead it is alive and well being sold in South America. The don't have coke clasic in Venezuela the have Coca-cola and it tastes like I remember New coke to taste like. They also do not sell Diet coke the have Coca-Cola lite. and it tastes like diet new coke.

No they don't. One of the most productive on the earth is in Canada and there is a large amount of them mined in Russia.
They have released binaries NOW. So by the GPL they have to release the source NOW not when they feel like it. They did not mind using all of that cool free code to build there disto. So they need to follow the rules that the code they are using is published under. They used OUR code (yes I have contributed a few small patches and stuff) So now they have to "pay for the use" and the form of payment that all GPL programmers have required is the release of the source of any changes. As soon as you release binaries not when you get around to it.

The release WAS anounced 2 hours and 19 min Before your whine. And 2 hoirs and 9 min before the slashdot story.
When Dear Abby or her sister Ann Landers rerun am old letter they did not have to get permission again or publish a book using of letters. Also at time news papers will get letters to the editor that thy will run again if there has been a big flap over the subject and are printing a special section with all of the letters and articles on the subject.
This has gone on to far. I have set my works dnd server to answer all look ups for etoys.com with the ip 216.167.2.21 (nettoy.com) and the owner of the isp I use has also done the same. I think that the admins of a large percentage of corp. and isp DNS servers read/. and if we all do this etoys.com will be gone.

Yesterday I grabbed the daily build of Mozilla and I find the transparent png
does now work. They did not on the last version I tried
