Since it was used as an excuse to enslave and convert native people?
If I remember my history classes correctly, the conquerors didn't force the natives to convert, they had a fair chance to say no (or course, then their head would be chopped off, but that's another story - about a strange link between religious freaks and murdering disbelievers).
Why not sign using two hashes? You'll need to find a chunk of data that generates two collisions with two different hashing algorithms. Let'em chew on that one!
NASA cares about the loss of space shuttles because they believe that if they lose another Congress will cut human spaceflight from their agency.
I heard that before, but suppose another tragedy happens. Do you really think the mighty US would be willing to show they are incapable of human space flight, while Russia and now China routinely shoot people into orbit? I think not.
In the article the researchers claim their model is able to predict past climate change, but I would like to hear their prediction for the future using their model. they claim they can do it, so I hope they will.
I have never touched a gun and will never do so (because they are built to kill), however I play wolfenstein regularely. I'm not violent at all either, to the contrary the maps where you have to storm the beach give you an idea how insane war can be (you spawn, and within a few secs you are probably dead. Repeat until you manage to reach the wall with an engineer - probably because the enemy is low on ammo).
If you're running Corporate Edition, you won't be getting the patch via LiveUpdate. You need to call their tech support line with your serial number or contact/contract number, and they'll give you the information (FTP site and password) for obtaining the 9.0 MR3 update for SAV Corporate Edition.
Great. First screw up, then make it more difficult than it should be to get the update! It seems obvious they should keep the customers happy, and make it a only a little inconvenience to them. Don't give them the time to start grumbling.
There was a QT Non-Commercial version, but it wasn't GPL, and there were some annoyances like a message in the title bar ([Non-Commercial] or something like that).
I haven't tried openvpn on win or mac personally, but it should work.. The biggest effort was trying to understand how to setup the private/public keys, it can get a bit confusing;).
Also, make sure you have compatible openvpn configs on both the server and the clients, I know from experience that it helps.. 8-)
- Internet: Fully closed firewall (not even ssh). - WLAN: only through VPN. Everybody can get an IP from my AP, but they'll only find one UDP port open (running openvpn). No internet access, no nothing.
from the inside, everything is allowed, the idea is that an intruder cannot get inside in the first place.
As a firewall I use fiaif (using 4 zones: INT, EXT, WLAN, VPN).
"Any decent camera already has manual controls. Hell, even most crappy ones do."
My nikon coolpix doesn't, it just has general settings like "night", "sport",... exposure time is mentioned nowhere.
"Interesting, but would require way more general processing power than any camera has. Get a webcam designed for the job."
Who sais? Maybe these camera's have better CPU's than you imagine. And you could use some tricks, like taking the images at low image quality until you find change (it's as easy as substracting them), then take an image at high quality and store it. No bulky computer needed, only a camera you can put somewhere remote (would be great for animal observation, if you watch nat.geo. you could have seen an expedition that does something similar).
Manually control shutter speed, zoom, all kind of settings, instead of those "easy to use" scenery settings in modern camera's (read: we know you are a moron, just let us decide for you what's the best setting).
Because you want to reprogram it to take a snapshot whenever the image changes suddenly.
Because you want to save images as PNG.
Or simply because hackers enjoy hacking stuff?
Why are philips webcams so popular as cheap CCD imagers with astronomers? Because a) the ccd chip is of high quality, and b) there are mods for long exposure, reading raw frames,...
If you come across my access point, I'll give you an IP-address (I'm a friendly person), and that's where it will end. The server end is completely firewalled, except for port 1194 running openVPN.
Only if you have a certificate signed by me, you will get a tunneled IP-address allowing you to access to both the internal LAN and the internet (and the server itself).

"Remember your ancient TNT graphics card that had 16MB of memory?"
I remember saying "One day, video cards will have 16MB of memory".

Not mine, I use the 43th Mersenne prime.

..if you package it all in one big bundle it could be cheaper?
As long as they don't start humping my leg they can do as they please.
It's not a cause but a symptom of overpopulation.
:)
Overpopulation not caused by hatred? Now there's something new!

> I don't want to wire. Anything.
I suggest batteries.. a lot of them.
How about hacked guided motorized carts..
carts hold a 10-lap speed competition around the supermarket (with high-scores, of course)
or
carts start to push other people
or
carts drive blind person out of the store, right to a competitor a couple of miles down the road.
Look at what you did! You made him cry! shame on you!
Wanna get high??
Your friend,
Towly.

Let's just hope they don't find out about Asimov's laws... they would disobey orders to torture prisoners...
WARNING: highly sarcastic post.
"If you wanted a camera with manual controls, why did you buy a cheap consumer camera without them?"
;)
Simple, I didn't buy it, it was a gift.
Or to put it in Monty Python terms:
- C'est un cadeau!
- Quoi?
- A present!
- Ah, un cadeau!
It does allow for firmware upgrades, though, so maybe, just maybe, a future version will have this feature.

Eat that, Duke Nukem Forever!!
Where can I download this new MyDoom thingy?

Release early, release often. Now if I only could remember who has said that.. ;)
