...I like the.NET framework, the web services aspects, the runtime, and I think C# is infinitely better than C++...But I'm just a little creeped out by the idea of using Mono for anything important...
Why not develop in C# for Mono then IF(when) MS breaks Mono, if you still like C# then move the app to a Win32 platform!
Please don't say "it's microsoft, it must be bad", when you last experience with Microsoft's products was probably Win95.
I don't particualy like microsoft myself, but I'm open-minded enough to give their technolagies a try.
It is! But it happened 7 years ago with the release of Java.
Correct, this was done a long time ago by Java, but according to this survey, Microsoft have done it a lot better. Read past the part where they compare Microsoft's BETA JDBC drivers to the rest of them, and
I would think Fax spamming would be more costly to the receiver... You'd be using a peice of paper for every page they sent you... if you got tons, that could start costing you...
But, unlike e-mail SPAM, fax SPAM costs the sender a lot more money then the receiver, in.au it's around $0.18 cents for each fax/phone call, where as e-mail spam might cost $0.0002 in bandwidth for the same message.
...I get many, many more junk emails to my inbox every day than legitimate emails...
Why is that? I've had my current e-mail address for around 3 years, and I maybe get 5 spams a week, if I'm lucky!
It's not like I'm secrative with my e-mail address. Whenever I register anywhere (eval software downloads, etc, etc,) I always give my real e-mail address...
Why are spammers all over you, but they ignore me?
I presume this is the list that we're discussing here, since the list of "ISPS must block bad stuff out there" would be almost impossible to hide unless every ISP must run a closed source/black box URL checker.
Why do they need to block sites at the ISP level? I mean.au only has several back bone links carrying IP in and out of the counrty, so why not just block them?
I'm sure it would be not to difficult to get the co-operation of the likes of Telstra and AAPT. (that covers like 70% of.au's internet traffic)
. But what these companies need to realize is that they can convert their old files into plain text files,
Yes, because I want my.doc files which I have spent a considerable amount of time applying formatting styles to;(tables, bullet lists, bold and italic where required, headers/footers, etc, etc) converted to plain text!
If I wanted my documents to be plain text than I would have used notepad!
The question is WHY should I "upgrade" to linux????
I'm using Win98, Word98 on my PII 400 and have been doing so for the past 4 years,
Why would I want to change to an OS where I have to use plain old text for my word processing?
There's little use in having a wireless card in that small a device for most people
We are just starting to roll handhelds for our production management system.
We are using old Compaq Aero handhelds (a couple of hundred dollars on E-bay), SocketCom 802.11b CF cards for wireless networking, and delivery the system over IE on the handhelds.
The screen size is perfect for our needs.
The idea being that every one in our production facility will carry one for marking jobs off as done, etc, etc...
The IIS patches aren't on liveupdate, you have to go get them
That is BULLSHIT you have no idea about what you are talking about, and it appears the moderators have no idea either.
The last 10 patches (from MS02-18 to MS02-006) have ALL appeared on Windows Update at the same time or before the Microsoft security update is e-mailed.
The shell sort for example. Or TCP/IP. Or DeCSS. The list is virtually endless
On a games console? Exactly what use is a shell on a games console?
Before you do this be sure to set your CSID to some BS number so that the recipient does not know who it came from!
You do NOT want the recipient to see your company letterhead on the top of your 500 page junk fax!
Because according to this ZDNEt/EWeeks review, .NET scales A LOT better then Java on [DB2, MSSql, MySQL & Oracle].
Nice to see that things haven't changed much ;)
I don't know you got modded insighful, I think Troll is a more accurate description.
Microsoft has the best doco of ANY software development company.
MSDN Library is the best single reference for everything Microsoft.
Take a look at it some time.
In other words, fall for the bait and switch, hook line and sinker!!!
No, try the technology, IF you think that it's better then everything else out there then use it!
Don't let the fact that it was developed by Microsoft stop you from using it if it is the best solution for you.

Java on Oracle was the best at Jacva with a response time of 600 pages per second for 800 users, but just look at the .NET tests for the same app. 800 pages per second for 850 users!
I dunno. Why don't you post your e-mail to slashdot, and we can find out... :)
I'll take you up on that one... I've setup uce@in-site.com.au to see how much spam a slashdot post can generate. I'll keep you updated...

I could stay unemployed forever
Considering you are a open sauce programmer, I wouldn't worry about gaining real employment anytime soon
blah
thank you

) most students take classes over and over again until they pass, making failure meaningless, and therefore cheating meaningless, and
Maybe the reason they pass eventualy (after taking the class over and over) is that they eventually LEARN something.
But if I can pass first time, without learning anything, by cheating, whats the use of taking the class in the first place?
I may as well just _buy_ a degree.

Open source programming may not result in fewer bugs - but they do get fixed quicker
You need look no further then Slashdot to know that your statment is not always true.
Just have a look at how long it took the guys here to fix all of the page widening bugs up, what was it again? 6 months?
...and all they have to do is some simple string filtering....
it was not egg troll, it was me!

, Ankrom decided to take matters into his own hands by adding a simple "North 5" to an existing sign.
The guy added "North 5" to the sign for god sake! How is this art?
This is not a troll but... Maybe said IT departments should GET A FUCKING GRIP ON REALITY!
ALL you need to do is block .vbs, .exe, .scr, .com from entering your exchange (sendmail, postfix, whatever) and 100% of these problem disappear.
and I'd just like to know what remote-administration options are built-in with Windows.
Ok, troll. Win2k comes with a Telnet server and Terminal Services
Termainal services allows you to have the Windows GUI remotly, just PcAnywhere, exept it does not suck.
I have used it over a 56k link to manage remote servers, and it's performance is supprising good.
You provide your customers with a free, easy (and legal) way of previewing your products, and they feel compelled to buy them
Can someone please tell Porsche that?
I would not mind a free, easy (and legal) way to preview the boxster Porsche for a (few years).
