The whole idea behind the GPL is just stupid, not "free."
all i can say is Thank Stallman your bankrupt philosophy is suckin' it.
the GPL is not "stupid", and it is free in the sense that it maximizes the amount of free software available overall. GPL is, and will remain, in ascendancy, Stallman willing.
Fine. You go invent a new, really fast algorithm. Then don't cry when Microsoft takes your idea and squishes you out of the market.
i'm happy to walk the walk. i don't care if microsoft implements an *idea*, as long as they're not able to prevent others from developing their own implementations.
Hopefully, this will finally prove to the "all software patents are evil" crowd that software patents are not inherently evil: it's just how they're sometimes unfortunately used.
software patents *are* inherently evil. just because a company decides that opening up some patents is in its interest in a particular case has *no bearing* on software patents as a whole.
companies shouldn't have the power to patent software algorigthms or business processes, period.
and all of them suck horribly. and the saddest part is? we keep buying thisd crap-quality software because the vertical market we are in that is all that is available.
hmm, well, i'm thinking of leaving my job and developing vertical market apps. what are the applications you use? maybe you'd like python-based web application replacements?:-)
i think the single most useful thing i could use in a digital camera is video output to a decent-sized, adjustable LCD screen.
i do some night photography with the "pro-sumer" Canon G5, and i rely on what the built-in LCD shows me to decide whether i've gotten a good shot or not. sometimes i miss a good scene because what looks good on the tiny LCD often ain't so great on a full-sized monitor or print.
it would be great if i could hook up my camera to an lcd that was around 4"x6", which i could adjust to match my monitor and printer at home.
first thought might be "laptop", but i would want something smaller/lighter/cheaper than that for dragging around in the field.
They went on forever - they - When I - we lived in Arizona, And the skies always had these Little fluffy clouds in 'em, And they were long, clear, and There were lots of stars, at night. And when it would rain, they would all turn - They were beautiful, the most beautiful skies As a matter of fact. Um, the sunsets were purple and red and yellow And on fire, And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere. That's uh, neat cause I used to
Look at them all the time, When I was little.
You don't see that You might still see it in the desert.
"why would I want to hang out with a bunch of hypocrites" is the typical response to groups who push others away in such fashion.
actually my reaction is more like "wtf is the big deal about this book these savages keep babbling about? shouldn't they be squatting in straw huts with bones through their noses, throwing virgins into volcanos, or something like that?"
How this is more difficult to use than a single Word-style window eludes me.
i think the problem is that it requires a lot more mouse activity to keep the available display space used. you have to "painstakingly" set each windows' size (toolbox, images, etc), you end up with distracting gaps between them that show stuff underneath, and when you resize one window you have to resize its neighbors to compensate for it.
i suppose you could argue that this is the job of the window manager, but it doesn't make it any easier, and not really possible on the typical windows client.
that said, thanks to the GIMP team - i use it for all my photographic work.
for the longest time i pronounced this with an "s" - "lacksadaisical".
seems like it's at least a marginally popular alternate spelling... google returns around 1,100 for with the "s", though 143,000 without.
i wonder where the difference originated.
[ flacco invokes some anti-off-topic spells and shit. ]

if a university's going to move off of peoplesoft, and they can stick it out, this might be a safer move than signing in blood with MS.

pr0n creates sore bones and vioxx is supposed to relieve them...
hsql
i'm pretty sure they have a Deluxe Suite already reserved for them.
except for microsoft, which is all about not fixing what is broke.

actually that possibility crossed my mind...

die, microsoft, Die, DIE!
don't forget to mention the decent slide scanner.

...one that says "*Still* only 8-bit color!"
yeah, i did this. linuxtoday is pathetic.
after reading that, i'm seized by an overwhelming urge to be in a foggy snowstorm for some reason. don't know why. the human mind is strange.
do you like to watch gladiator movies?
what does that have to do with editing public information about PKK? do you really think that's going to do the slightest bit of good?
Webware for Python.
throw in Cheetah templates and you've got a comfy environment quite like java servlets plus velocity templates.
i wish i'd known about webware before my last monstrous java web applicatin.
