If you insist before the interview that they address you as Dr. Anonymous Coward -- you probably aren't going to get the job.

  2. Business case on Using Two Monitors Makes You More Productive? · · Score: 1

Quantify the costs/benefits to the company of buying you a second monitor. How much more productive does it make you? Can you quantify the benefits somehow, either as increases to the bottom line, or recouping lost opportunities? (You might not be paid by the hour, so labor costs may vary - think situations where your higher productivity could save the company money.) Formulate a logical argument. Write a short business case - one or two pages long. Not too long - you just want to make your case, not be pedantic or boring.(Google how to write a business case.) If you can make your case, and your boss/company is somewhat rational, you should have your monitor. Good Luck!

  8. Hubbert Peak on Could Nuclear Power Wean the U.S. From Oil? · · Score: 1
We better do something soon. The problem isn't when we run out of oil, but when we reach global peak production. There will be a point when sectors of the economy (do you know how much oil it takes to produce our food?) will fail catastrophically because they can't stay ahead of the increasing price of oil, even though there will still be a lot of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubbert_peak/
"After the peak, oil production slowly but increasingly tapers off. After the peak but before an oil field is empty another significant point is reached when it takes more energy to recover, transport and process one barrel of oil than the amount of energy contained in that one barrel of oil. At that point oil is not worthwhile to extract and that oil field is abandoned. This is true regardless of the price of oil."

That's because your kids are *only* four months old! Jeez, you've barely even started, Dad.

Call back in a couple of years, and we'll see if you've had the courage of your convictions.

(A lot of stay-at-home parents would love to have the luxury to be able to get 12 miles away from their kids, even just once in a while. You'll see...)
