  1. So does it support HomePNA yet? on Mandrake 8.2 Available · · Score: 2

Or will that ever happen? HPNA might suck when you compare it to ethernet, but for those of us living in an apartment and having the only widspread outlets being phone outlets, HPNA is perfect. Yes we could run ethernet cable all over the place, but that would be more inconvenience than it's worth. This Mandrake stuff, supposed to be Linux for the home user, should really support Home PNA if they do in fact care about us lowly convenience people...

Because 5.5 years ago when I was a freshman at Clemson University I saw the same thing being done in the ceramics engineering department. All the freshman engineers had to tour the different departments to help them decide what path to take, and when I was on the Ceramics tour the guide showed us a science fair type piece of cardboard that had a small ceramic disc on the back of it. The disc had two little wires going to a small fm radio and when he turned the radio on I thought I was listening to one of those WaveRadio thingies. It blew me away and the first thing I thought of was I wish they could put those in cars so when the football players turned their bass up too high, if they had a disc on the trunk, at least it would rattle to the music!

Seriously though, I wonder what the Engineering college over at Clemson would have to say about this.

Good Lord. That entire post is possibly the most ignorant, Microsoft Certified Shit Comment I've ever read.

I realize that I should not attack your post with only insults, so I'll give an example, but only one since I don't have much time.

You cannot honestly ask any company to ship their competitor's product with their own. That is an absurd idea at best.

The problem is not that MS Windows doesn't come with Netscape or Java or any other competition. The problem is that Microsoft makes contracts with resellers that say if they're going to sell Microsoft Crap.X version of the OS then they have to include certain things, and they have to leave out certain things (like netscape and java.) Therefore, the illegal action is not leaving the competition off their CDs, but forcing the computer sellers to only have MS crap on their machines. That's mafia-esque and just as illegal.

The present moderation system where all posters are created equal is nearly perfect! Please do not make the posts of people who pay stand out from those who don't pay, it would ruin the whole fun of slashdot. I'll glady view a few ads and even click on them from time to time, but I'm not going to pay for something that I've been getting for free. I think it would be extremely harmful to the nature of slashdot if divisions in representation happened because of this system. Removing ads for people that pay, hey, that's fair. Elevating their "worth" on slashdot, that's just not right.

You're missing the point. Guns can be used for hunting, shooting games, killing people, armed robbery, all sorts of things. Pillows are used for sleeping, sitting, napping, shooting people, again lots of things. Nintendo cartridges have one purpose, to play video games. If you're selling "tools" to illegaly copy these games, you're committing a crime, because the tool has no legitimate purpose.

  22. There's only one flaw... on NOA to Sue for Flash Advance Linkers · · Score: 3, Insightful

VHS, DVD, and the like are standards. Nintendo cartridges are not. The content of VHS tapes is protected, but not the actual device. In the case of the Nintendo cartridge, the entire thing is protected by copyright. This means that the precedent does not apply.

  23. Well what did you expect? on NOA to Sue for Flash Advance Linkers · · Score: 1, Troll

The Flash Advance Linker is similar to a cradle for your handheld computer. It plugs into your parallel port and sends/receives ROM data from/to the game or flash cartridge. Once game data is transfered, the flash cartridge is used exactly like a normal game cartridge.

If you're selling products which can be used to copy Nintendo games, you're going to get legally screwed, that's just life. The DMCA is ridiculous when it comes to sharing mp3's and mpeg movies because those things are not exact duplicates of the original. This, however, is a device which someone could use to produce exact copies of nintendo games and then resell them, and that's just plain illegal, and justifiably so.
