Pap authentification does not work under Linux? Am I missing something? I used to configure that stuff by hand (nasty, but it worked) but now use kppp (kde) and it is absolutely trivial. The same applies to chap.
I would argue that the security problems one is likely to face from one's neighbors pale in comparison to those one faces from the world at large. Either way leaving one's computer connected to the Internet without a firewall is begging for trouble. This is irrelevant for this comparison - these hazards are the same for all technologies and he was discussing the additional local problems. In another article a few days ago, the same author said that he uses Secure BSD instead of Linux because it is much more secure. He is obviously aware of the issues.
Integrating the PCMCIA package was the one feature I really wanted to see, and this will finally happened. I hope the deadline-slip is a lot shorter this time.
When it comes down to it, yes. My stuff has (probably) not been moderated either down or up and I would probably not notice if it had been. The stuff referred to in this thread was a well-expressed personal opinion. imho, moderating that as flame-bait means that the moderator has a problem. That sort of 'censorship' does annoy me and a karmic system to moderate the moderators strikes me as being a real improvement. Not sure that delmoi really deserves more though.
Having looked at your 'offending' postings (the ones still marked down), the moderator needs some bad karma, now. Moderating the moderators seems to be a good idea, as long as it does not go too far in imposing conformity. I *think* we are safe on that front at the moment.
So the Slashdot effect has finally come home to roost. I have seen a few references to Slashdot on other sites recently and it is our turn to suffer now.
I applied a similar test - supplied some of the keywords in my web-page (samba encryption smbmount)- and BINGO. The very first entry. This really surprised me because my provider is an obscure German one. I don't know what it does to the competition but it certainly impressed me.
The problem is more that this book came out almost a year ago and the PDC stuff went beta around november/december. He could not really document the configuration of stuff that was about to be written. I have this book and still refer to it at times but SWAT, the PDC stuff and the NT/ACL stuff all came later - Samba is a fast-moving target and this book is showing it's age.
I am sorry, but that is simply not true. I learnt encryption from that book. If you still have problems with that (or other issues), follow my link - http://www.germany.net/teilnehmer/101/69082/samba. html
I hope that Alan was somply pointing out to an idiot flamer that the US has some dirty washing as well and not just Iran (or any other place).
I still remember when a Ship of the US navy went into Iranian waters (when the US was not in the conflict) looking to cause trouble, got worried when a plane appeared and shot it down. It was a civilian airbus on a scheduled flight. The Lockerbie Libyans should be put on trial but what about the half-witted cowboy in charge then.
Does it not count because it was a middle-eastern airline? To my eternal shame, I wish it had been an american plane. The 3rd world war nearly started when KAL007 was shot down over Russia but this one was shot down over Iran.
Sorry - my gripe but some of things that went on under Reagan were terrorist acts and to name an airport after him is obscene.

I hope to hell that that is an April-1 joke and Iliad will be back tomorrow. If not, who killed cock robin?
