  1. okay, but what about OpenStep? on Linux Gurus and OpenStep gurus collaborate · · Score: 2

IMHO, the whole concept of releasing Darwin core into open source is stupid unless Apple also releases the OpenStep/NextStep/WebObjects stuff (the gui and the libraries are missing, hello)they have for Intel (yes, you do remember NextStep/Openstep for intel, dont you?), because you wont be able to run any of the cool new MacOs applications or ported NextStep/OpenStep stuff without it.

All this is going to get us is yet ANOTHER X-based Unix clone (after they've ported all the good stuff we already have in Linux and FreeBSD)
and yet further balkanization. This is a total waste of time when open source porting efforts are already being made for Linux and FreeBSD. We have these things already, they are mature and we like them.

And if its based on Mach, why the hell are they calling it Linux??????

If you want to pick it apart, you can just shred it, even for a non-obsessive fan like me, I wonder why the original Obi-Wan said that he trained Anakin and that Anakin was already a star fighter pilot when he met him.

And I'm going to see it again, hopefully at a theater with a better sound system. I saw it at 12:01, and the crowd was really hyped (some of them having camped out for tickets then waited four hours in line for the best seats). You don't really get that sports-event-like crowd at movies anymore, and it really heightens the experience.

As for the movie itself, I agree pretty much with Rob's review (for some reason we seem to have pretty similar tastes in movies). Jar-Jar was annoying at some parts, but he definitely didn't ruin the movie, in fact he even made me chuckle at some parts. The worst acting award definitely belongs to that little brat Anikan whose self-narration ("The auto-pilot is on!") was driving me nuts. The dialogue in general just seems to point out the obvious ("The entire planet is one big city")...this movie is really able to speak for itself with its visual quality, but Lucas doesn't seem to want to let it do that.

However, the pod racing, the lightsaber duals, and the incredible scenery is worth three times the admission. Really folks I mean it...words cannot describe how incredible the three-way battle was to watch...it's just captivating. Overall I would say this movie follows the plot of episode 4 pretty closely (right down to the grappling hook scene! ugh!), which hopefully means Lucas is trying to introduce the younger generation to the new trilogy before exploding with the next two movies.

I hope so anyway, because there's no way I wouldn't see the next one...there are just too many cool things which are obviously going to take place and a lot of questions left unanswered. Overall: 8 out of 10.

But that's not what's important. She understands that I love the movies, and has even gone to Toys 'R' Us with me on a Star Wars run.

But, that's because we both share enough interests and activities that we don't look at each other's obsessions as being the sum total of each other's personality. She thinks I spend too much time on my computer, I think she spends too much time watching TV. We could just let that be the end of it, but there's more to each of us than the little annoying habbits that we all have. We tend to like the same kind of informational shows (though I can't understand how she can insist on watching the same series half-a-dozen times), and she's willing to learn about computers, even though she jokes about my laptop being 'the other woman' on occassion.

If a hobby or interest is enough to break two people appart, then there just wasn't enough else there for them to expect to stay together very long in the first place. That's all there really is to it.
