Well...the page were we all picked it up from said to send mail to alphag2@real.com but my mail was bounced back. So until then just send it through the normal support pages.
Trust me, we talk about this in many engineering meetings. At VA we run Debian, Redhat, SuSE and Caldera (I have a Yellow Dog box at home too). We're trying to get together the best computers possible.
I prefer Debian, with a close second on SuSE. But 'Redhat Linux' is the most commonly asked for distro. But that could all change as fast as 2.2...
actually, yes they did buy avalon hill (makers of Advanced Civilization), but Micoroprose owns the rights to the name because they purchased the company that made the original Civilization.
Microprose has close ties with Sid Mier and, if memory serves, has acted as publisher for firaxis in the past.
It would be a bit hard to type with your arms hanging out of a car. Or they could give you a wireless keyboard...those things would work for all of a day untill little bits of chili and ranch dressing crept into them.
But seriously, I think this is kinda stupid..I mean i go to BK/McDonalds/Sonic/etc.. to get food and eat, not to go use a computer. Altough, if Sonic did this maybe you could hook it into your car stereo and Quake away! I imagine being fragged with 2 JL 10's thumping away behind you would rock.
Actually I have met one of the success stories of this idea. I met a 14 year old kid who was in the Burger King in the World Trade Center. He hangs out there all day and gets reciepts from different people and use the connection to the web.. (the library connections are bull&^%^ around where he lives) using this connection he has entered E-Trade's mock-stock-market and is currently in 108th place out of 6000. The winner gets $50,000 towards college. I must give big props to this kid for tenacity and slyness...
You are exactly right Mr. LizardKing. It would certainly make since to work towards making your desktop of choice as good as you can, rather than wasting energy on pointing out the shortcomings of a desktop you don't like. Nothing like a good bit of competition to bring out the best. Of course there is usually only one winner, but you can always start another race!
MS believes that most business owners when undrstanding the various drawbacks and risks associated with their OSes will make an informed decision to go with their product in the face of paying to maintain a more premeir environement. They quote stupid stats like 99.97% uptime and business owners figure that sounds pretty damn good. So the blow the bucks on the MS solution and get some certified dudes on the payroll to find out that the.03% is really a pain in the ass. But they've spent the money and hired staff.
MS couldn't care less if the informed user/developer chooses their environment. The informed user/developer doesn't control the purse strings.
Right on! Those kids have figurative bloodstains on their hands. Like Lady MacBeth, they won't wash off, either. The popular media wants to shy away from the fact that many kids are facing daily harassment in our schools. And how that harassment sometimes forces an explosion of rage. Afterall, you can only push back on something before it either breaks or swings back.
I rember my tour guide talking about this when i visted. IIRC he said that the engineering students pride themselves on being better than the pros because of this incident. But i would like to see those giant angular slabs of rock that you can climb on turned to a new angle. That would be impressive:)
Free UnixWare 7.1, 50 bucks for the media/manual kits, license is free to students, academics, home users and demo purposes.
and check out the SCO Skunkware site for open source UnixWare 7.1 tools and popular ports of Linux and FreeBSD programs, like KDE.
Deinitely worth a look if you want a rock solid, ultrascalable UNIX (this one is SVR5 with a 64-bit filesystem, RAID, SMP and clustering support, pentium and even Merced optimized, works on lots and lots of hardware, X server works on tons and tons of cards). Administration and configuration is easier than any unix out there with SCO's graphical SCOadmin.
Question: what's stopping SGI (or anyone else for that matter) from enhancing Linux? I can't think of any reason why a cxfs patch wouldn't be integrated into the kernel proper.

Nope, I'm just using a plain old dialup connection.

I'll answer for him/her...yes.

The download page said something like "Red Hat 5.x/6.0" so I assume that the libs aren't the problem.

On Red Hat 6.0 (Intel) with Netscape 4.6, G2 doesn't work at all. It starts up and just sits there. Anyone else seeing this?

Same thing is happening on my system with the same setup. I'm going to post to the root of this thread to see if anyone else is having this problem.

I can see it now, some nut is going to go apeshit in this joint and start shooting people LIVE ON THE INTERNET.
This'll give the know-nothing talking heads on TV more "proof" that the internet and violent activities go hand in hand.
Burger King, this is a royally bad idea.

Did anyone notice the link to their hosting company, http://www.via.net? I wonder why it's not a VA.
And what's the deal with via.net? They have a FAQ that hasn't been updated since 1997 and answers the burning question, "Do you support 28.8 modems?"

Phil Hughes incorrectly compares BSD and linux - he states that *BSD is not multiplatform.
NetBSD users should find this amusing - it was multi-platform before linux.
Posted by d106ene5:
In the "comparative review of OSes", every OS has a disadvantage listed except for linux.
I thought the linux community was supposed to be above FUD?

You're right - PCMCIA support still isn't really there. Linux is marginally better for laptop support.

By the way, Digital was making $14billion a year primarily on its alpha product line before it was bought.
you're confusing revenue with profits.
here's a hint - if DEC had more profits, it wouldn't have been bailed out by compaq.
